Answers written from Josh's point of view.

  • Q: What's the purpose of this bot?
  • A: See above; the goal is to have some more automation for the wiki so that pages don't get horribly outdated.

  • Q: Where does the bot get its information?
  • A: Directly from Geometry Dash's servers. If Geometry Dash itself is reporting something incorrectly, there's a good chance the bot will report it incorrectly too.

  • Q: What happens if a level or page is deleted?
  • A: The bot stops updating it. Simple as that.

  • Q: Is the bot open-source?
  • A: The bot is just a set of Python scripts on my desktop. The code is not necessarily user-friendly, but I am happy to explain things to anyone who requests as such.

  • Q: Why are some pages updating and others aren't?
  • A: I have the ability to add pages to a whitelist. I can either manually enter a list of pages to update or have the bot go through every applicable page on the whitelist.

  • Q: What could make the bot break?
  • A: Replacing the ID of a level on its page could cause problems, since the ID is how the bot identifies which Geometry Dash level the page represents. I have overrides to protect against vandalism and an Emergency button if needed, but this is not foolproof.

  • Q: How often does the bot update pages? Does it update them on reload?
  • A: Currently at my own discretion; if this account is granted bot status, it will likely be very frequent. Updating on reload is not possible.

  • Q: Is the bot always running?
  • A: No. The scripts are run from my own computer, so the bot only makes edits when I run them. The only exceptions are the scheduled edits to my stats every 12 hours.

  • Q: What should I do if the bot makes an incorrect edit?
  • A: If you think the bot has made a mistake, you are welcome to fix it without asking. If the problem keeps happening, please let me know on my main account's talk page so I can fix the script responsible.

  • Q: Can I add or remove a page to the whitelist?
  • A: No, but I'm pretty active; I'll likely just add it myself. Pages generally do not get removed from the whitelist.

  • Q: Does it work on Sandbox pages?
  • A: Yes, the bot can update pages in your Sandbox. But you'll have to ask me for this; I do not wish to do so without the consent of the sandbox owner.

  • Q: Does it work on pages for lists or series?
  • A: Yes. Here's how:
    1. The list ID is stored as an override.
    2. When a list page is queued for an update, it checks for levels inside the list that have their own pages.
    3. The list page is updated first, followed by the level pages that apply.

  • Q: Can your bot update my own stats?
  • A: Unfortunately, no. Some of the information needed for this is stored locally in your Geometry Dash save file rather than being publicly available from the game's servers. The bot can update my statistics because I have access to my own save data, but I obviously don't have access to yours.

  • Q: Can your bot stop giving me notifications on pages I'm watching?
  • A: See your preferences for the available watchlist and notification settings. Muting individual users requires notification support, which is not currently enabled on this wiki.

  • Q: Can I add or remove a page from the whitelist?
  • A: Not directly, but I'm pretty active; if a page should be added, let me know and I'll likely just add it myself. Pages generally do not get removed from the whitelist unless they are subject to deletion.

  • Q: Can I add features to the bot?
  • A: If you have any ideas, please let me know and I'll try! I can't promise that every suggestion will be possible or practical, though.

  • Q: Can the bot pass a Turing Test or a CAPTCHA?
  • A: Very funny. But no.

  • Q: Can I stop the bot from editing [public page]?
  • A: No.

  • Q: Can the bot write level descriptions?
  • A: No.

  • Q: Can you delete all of the bot's edits because I want this wiki to be human-only?
  • A: No, that's absolutely ridiculous.
