Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

[edit | edit source]

Answers written from Josh's point of view.

  • Q: What's the purpose of this bot?
  • A: See above; the goal is to have some more automation for the wiki so that pages don't get horribly outdated.

  • Q: Where does the bot get its information?
  • A: Directly from Geometry Dash's servers. If Geometry Dash itself is reporting something incorrectly, there's a good chance the bot will report it incorrectly too.

  • Q: What happens if a level or page is deleted?
  • A: The bot stops updating it. Simple as that.

  • Q: Is the bot open-source?
  • A: The bot is just a set of Python scripts on my desktop. The code is not necessarily user-friendly, but I am happy to explain things to anyone who requests as such.

  • Q: Why are some pages updating and others aren't?
  • A: I have the ability to add pages to a whitelist. I can either manually enter a list of pages to update or have the bot go through every applicable page on the whitelist.

  • Q: What could make the bot break?
  • A: Replacing the ID of a level on its page could cause problems, since the ID is how the bot identifies which Geometry Dash level the page represents. I have overrides to protect against vandalism and an Emergency button if needed, but this is not foolproof.

  • Q: How often does the bot update pages? Does it update them on reload?
  • A: Currently at my own discretion; if this account is granted bot status, it will likely be very frequent. Updating on reload is not possible.

  • Q: Is the bot always running?
  • A: No. The scripts are run from my own computer, so the bot only makes edits when I run them. The only exceptions are the scheduled edits to my stats every 12 hours.

  • Q: What should I do if the bot makes an incorrect edit?
  • A: If you think the bot has made a mistake, you are welcome to fix it without asking. If the problem keeps happening, please let me know on my main account's talk page so I can fix the script responsible.

  • Q: Can I add or remove a page to the whitelist?
  • A: No, but I'm pretty active; I'll likely just add it myself. Pages generally do not get removed from the whitelist.
