Computer Talk is a 2.1 Insane level by 1374, published on 2 April 2020.

Description

Computer Talk's decoration is completely composed of green and black colours, meant to mimic monochrome monitors and early CRT displays. The only instances of another colour (aside from Transporters and Portals) occur on death, when some objects turn red.

  • 0-16.5%: The level begins with a tight Ball sequence within a corridor whose floor and ceiling jolt upward in sync with the snare drums of the music. The gameplay is only moderately difficult, requiring frequent use of orbs to progress. In the background, numerous video screens scroll down, then up, as they alternate between flashing smiling and frowning faces.
  • 16.5-24.5%: After the screen fades to black and flashes a light green, the player transforms into a Cube and must jump across numerous platforms that shrink slightly when landed on. The platforms, as well as the decorations in the background, are predominantly made of application windows (henceforth simply referred to as 'windows'), making the section simple unless the player struggles with differentiating between the windows they can and cannot land on. The player also briefly transforms into a Robot at 24.5% before reverting at 29.25% and completing the section as a Cube. A window closes around the player as they near the drop; at 31.75%, the gameplay jump cuts to a black screen with the player inside a rectangle that scales in on the left and the lyrics 'TALK TO THE COMPUTER' on the right. To complete the section, the player must hold a dash orb at 33% as they enter the drop section.
  • 33.5-50.5%: The drop section features two humans wearing business suits and monitors as heads bobbing to the music. In this section, the player is repeatedly thrusted forward to pass through moving walls with gaps in them. In the first half, they must avoid 7 walls as a U.F.O.; in the second half, they must avoid 5 columns with large squares. The horizontal surfaces of the walls and squares may be touched without consequence. To assist the player, vertical stripes appear with arrows pointing to the openings in each column; a stripe with a Ship icon drops from the ceiling in lieu of a portal at 44%. Finally, at 50.5%, a stripe with a question mark drops, removing the player from the section as the two monitors' facial expressions transform into somewhat malicious smiles.
  • 54-73.75%: The next sequence is a lane-switcher minigame involving three horizontal lanes, with the player portrayed as a stick figure sprinting in place. They must use the Player 1 button to move up and Player 2 to move down; the lanes wrap around the screen, allowing direct movement between the top and bottom lanes. To survive, the player must avoid hand cursors in the first half and 8-spiked creatures resembling Thorn enemies (bearing the same malicious smiles as the monitors in the previous section) in the second half. Hand cursors slide into the screen from the right before lunging directly down the lane they are in, while the spiked creatures move at a constant speed from right-to-left. The decoration consists of columns alternating between 0's and 1's sliding in opposite vertical directions, stripes at the end of both halves, and a decoration corresponding to the hazard the player is currently dodging (hand cursors in the first half, black circles in the second half). Squares cascade in and out of each lane occassionally; however, they do not telegraph any attacks. When the second half ends at 70.5%, the stick figure sprints forward and off the screen as the screen fades to a bright green.
  • 73.75-86%: The final section of Computer Talk involves a triple-speed boss fight against a sentient, 6-armed computer that is somewhat resemblant of Electro in Xender Game's BOSS 3 ELECTRO. Behind the boss is a large screen that frequently displays a single-word prompt for the player to follow. It begins with the word 'JUMP' as the player, reverted back to a Cube, must traverse blocks and orbs that slide towards them; the movement makes the Cube sequence the most difficult section of the level to sightread. At 83%, the player falls into a Wave portal and must rapidly click (as indicated by the prompt 'SPAM') to survive between two lasers fired horizontally around the player. Once successfully completed, the player reaches a Ship portal and the prompt changes to 'FOCUS'.
  • 86-94.5%: The second half of the boss fight begins with the player avoiding two more pairs of spiked enemies by flying above, then below the pairs in order. The prompt changes to 'CONTROL' as arrows begin to slide from left-to-right, requiring the player to weave through the center to avoid touching them. Once the last arrow leaves the screen, the prompt reverts to 'FOCUS' at 91.5% as the player must avoid two more horizontal lasers; this sequence is identical to the earlier Wave, aside from the game-mode used.
  • 94.5-100%: After the boss's final attack, the player turns into a Spider as the floor and ceiling close in and the prompt reverts to 'SPAM'. No inputs are required for the remainder of the level. If the player clicks while they are a Spider, the boss's face will flinch and a health bar in the bottom-right will slightly deplete; this has no effect unless the player attempts to collect the third coin. The end-screen appears at 97.5%, featuring the level name, 1374's name and icon, as well as a list of 6 'helpers': two for creating the custom typefaces used for text within the level and four as playtesters.

User coins

Computer Talk contains three user coins, two of which use custom collectables and square coin designs.

  • The first coin requires two steps to activate it. First, in the Ball sequence, the player must triple-click at 11.25%, skipping a magenta pad and collecting a large custom key on the ceiling. Collecting the key spawns a toggle orb at 17.25%, which the player must jump and hit. Finally, the player must drop upwards at 23.25%, where they will pick up the coin and hit a blue orb to return to the main route. If the key is skipped, the toggle orb will be replaced by a window with a keyhole design.
  • The second coin requires the player to touch two eight-spoke star collectables in the drop section. The first star is at 39.5%; after passing through the fourth wall as a U.F.O., the player must drop to the ground, then quickly rise to pass through the fifth wall. The second and larger star is hidden at the bottom of the fourth column of blocks in the Ship half. Once both stars are hit, the player must rise to the ceiling in the Ship section; they will collect the coin at 50.25%.
  • The third and final coin requires the player to deplete the boss's health bar. As soon as the player reaches the Spider portal at the end of the level, they must spam as fast as possible to deplete the gauge that appears in the bottom-right corner. A minimum of 27 clicks are required to toggle the coin; however, it remains invisible even when collected.

Gameplay

Trivia

  • A beta version of Computer Talk was published by 1374 a week before the final version; its ID was 60454106. [1] The beta version was deleted at some point in 2024.
  • Computer Talk was selected as the Daily Level on 14 January 2024, nearly four years after its release.
  • In a video uploaded on 3 October 2024, 1374 revealed an in-progress version of a Computer Talk rework. [2] However, progress came to a halt when they disappeared in April 2025.
    • The requirement to collect the first coin was changed in the rework; it now requires collecting seven floppy disk collectables within the U.F.O. sequence of the drop section.
