Work in progress!
This article is currently undergoing development and in the process of receiving additional information. You can edit it to achieve a higher standard.

The Admin Dashboard provides an instructive directory for staff to conduct routine administrative and maintenance activities.

General patrol (routine)

[edit source]
  • Process edits on Special:RecentChanges
    • Configure the Recent Changes filter to suit personal preferences (enable in Special:Preferences under the Recent Changes tab if only the basic filter is present)

Admission of new articles (routine)

[edit source]
  • Process incoming articles on Special:NewPages
    • Delete if ineligible or deemed unnecessary (first discuss with staff where uncertain)
    • Rename if needed
    • Add appropriate notice template
      • Template:Stub if minimally developed but cleared for admission
      • Template:Delete with parameter reason for minimally developed articles pending admission upon further development
      • Template:WIP for primary article where more development is needed (including under specific headings)
      • Template:Upcoming for primary article whose subject pertains to upcoming content
      • Template:Pending for primary article if its content is relevant and sought to be maintained but as a standalone article further evaluation is required regarding where the content should be located
    • Categorise when approved for permanent admission
    • Move content to respective User sub page and mark with Template:UserPageExtension if it is expressed that they would like to individually work on the article

Pending page processing (periodic)

[edit source]

File patrol (routine)

[edit source]
  • Process new files on Special:NewFiles
    • Delete if identified as spam; remove redlinks left by deletions
    • Delete if identified as intended for use on user pages; remove redlinks left by deletions (file links from non-staff should normally be prevented by the abuse filer)
    • Categorise if approved for article use; delete all other content on file page
      • Delete older versions in version table on file page
      • Specific use of licence templates to be determined (specifically for audio, PDFs)
    • Rename to correct title as necessary, adhering to naming convention (pascal case); remove redlinks left by renaming

Non-article non-file patrol (periodic)

[edit source]
  • Process pages via namespace on Special:AllPages
    • Talk pages (and those of other namespaces) are available to be used for enquiries on a time-limited basis
      • For non-enquiries, the talk page can be deleted after 3 days
      • For genuine enquiries, provide a response, or allow discussion to continue if discussion with multiple users has taken place
        • After 7 days of no follow-ups, cut and paste the relevant topic to Meta:Discuss for archiving, and delete the talk page if no other genuine enquiries have since been received
      • For information/documentation being dumped for later or staff processing, process when possible
        • Once processed, the talk page can be deleted
    • User pages and User talk pages can exist perpetually
      • Internal links (including files) should be removed so that they are not detected on maintenance reports (internal links from non-staff should normally be prevented by the abuse filer)
      • Templates designed for personal use can be removed (finding via Special:MostLinkedTemplates after the user has been inactive for 60 days
    • Templates should be checked and have unnecessary edits reverted, typically as part of general patrol
    • Categories should be checked and have unnecessary edits reverted, typically as part of general patrol (edits to category pages from non-staff should normally be prevented by the abuse filter)
    • MediaWiki (system) pages are editable only by interface administrators so will not experience non-staff modification
    • Modules should be checked and have unnecessary edits reverted (it is an obscure namespace that is unlikely to receive attention)
    • Other namespaces should not have any pages created in them, and where this occurs they should be deleted
[edit source]
  • Process pages on Special:WantedPages
    • Remove redlinks on pages where redlink is not expected to receive an article in future
    • Correct redlinks on pages where redlink was made in error trying to link to an existing article
  • Process pages on Special:WantedFiles
    • Remove/correct redlinks on pages where redlink is not a placeholder
  • Process pages on Special:WantedTemplates
    • Remove/correct redlinks on pages
  • Process pages on Special:WantedCategories
    • Remove/correct redlinks on pages (new redlinks from non-staff should normally be prevented by the abuse filter)
