On 14 September 2026, RobTop announced that there would be major changes to the Moderator system in the upcoming Update 2.209:

*Promotions and demotions will no longer be publicly announced.

RobTop also announced that he was reducing the team by roughly half to give each person's recommendations more weight. Forty-three players were then demoted from their Moderator positions, including three Elder Moderators (although one player kept their Leaderboard Moderator position). The Leaderboard Moderator role is unchanged, and applications will still be open for that position, although four players were still demoted from Leaderboard Moderator.-->

*As of 17 September 2026, there are 52 Moderators.
*Usually, many Moderators are promoted at the same time, in what is known as a 'Mod wave'.
*Most former Moderators were demoted either due to being inactive or voluntarily resigning. However, some Moderators were demoted for other reasons, such as leaking private discussions, cheating stats, or breaking other Moderator guidelines.
*Moderator comments were not highlighted until a server-side update on 17 September 2020.
*Before [[Update 2.0]], Moderators were not an official in-game system, and they instead sent levels through a secret website with a password.

**The longest-lasting current Rating Advisor who has never been a Moderator is [[rafer]], who has been a Rating Advisor since 10 April 2018. He is also the longest-lasting Rating Advisor in the game's history with this distinction.
