Editing Moderators

Moderators are Geometry Dash players whose accounts have been granted special tools for monitoring and moderating player activity, introduced in Update 2.0.

Description
Moderator status is assigned at the developer's discretion, and a player may hold more than one simultaneously. As of Update 2.11, an M badge appears next to the username on profile pages.

*Rating Advisors (formerly Moderators) can suggest levels to RobTop for rating and hold higher priority when suggesting Demon difficulty ratings. Rating Advisor comments are highlighted in light green (<code>#C8FFC8</code>). This role was first assigned in Update 1.7 and formally included in Update 2.0.
*Moderators (formerly Elder Moderators) hold all Rating Advisor abilities, with the additional ability to delete comments, issue temporary comment bans, remove unrated user levels from the server, and allowlist scouted Newgrounds artists. Moderator comments are highlighted in dark green (<code>#4BFF4B</code>). This role was first included in Update 2.11.
*Leaderboard Moderators monitor global and level-specific leaderboards for illegitimate submissions and manage player allowlisting for the global Top 1,000 and Extreme Demon leaderboards. They hold a higher priority when suggesting Demon difficulty ratings. The role was first assigned in Update 2.11 and formally included in Update 2.2. Leaderboard Moderator comments are not highlighted, and their badge only appears on their profile. The Leaderboard Moderator role is not mutually exclusive with the Rating Advisor or Moderator roles, and players can hold both roles at the same time.
*Developer holds all abilities, plus more. Comments appear highlighted in cyan (<code>#32FFFF</code>), though the Moderator badge remains visible.

<!--There should be a new "History" section that includes this info in addition to other changes to the Moderator system, but I do not know enough to make that section

14 September 2026 update
On 14 September 2026, RobTop announced that there will be major changes to the Moderator system in the upcoming Update 2.209:
*Moderators will be renamed to Rating Advisors, and Elder Moderators will be renamed to Moderators to better illustrate their roles.
*Applications for positions will be permanently closed.
*Promotions and demotions will no longer be publicly announced.

RobTop also announced that he was reducing the team by roughly half to give each person's recommendations more weight. Forty-three players were then demoted from their Moderator positions, including three Elder Moderators (although one player kept their Leaderboard Moderator position). The Leaderboard Moderator role is unchanged, and applications will still be open for that position, although four players were still demoted from Leaderboard Moderator.-->

Trivia
General
*As of 15 September 2026, there are 52 Moderators.
**These include 13 Elder Moderators (7 of whom are also Leaderboard Moderators), 21 regular Moderators (1 of whom is also a Leaderboard Moderator), and 18 additional Leaderboard Moderators.
*A total of 237 players previously held a Moderator position but have since been demoted.
*Usually, many Moderators are promoted at the same time, in what is known as a 'Mod wave'.
*Most former Moderators were demoted either due to being inactive or voluntarily resigning. However, some Moderators were demoted for other reasons, such as leaking private discussions, cheating stats, or breaking other Moderator guidelines.
*Moderator comments were not highlighted until a server-side update on 17 September 2020.
*Before Update 2.0, Moderators were not an official in-game system, and they instead sent levels through a secret website with a password.
*Before Update 2.1, the Mod Suggestion button was located beneath the Rate button and appeared identical to it.
*All levels sent to RobTop by Moderators can be found in the Sent tab when clicking the search button in the online section.

Moderator firsts
*The first player promoted to Rating Advisor was Rob Buck, soon joined by Darnoc and Viprin.
**The first player demoted from Rating Advisor was Darnoc, in mid-2015.
**The first players promoted to Rating Advisor a second time after being demoted were JerkRat, KeiAs, and MrLorenzo, all getting re-promoted on 28 February 2020.
**The first player demoted from Rating Advisor a second time was JerkRat, on 10 September 2020.
**The first player promoted to Rating Advisor a third time was Zircone, on 28 July 2025.
**The first and only player demoted from Rating Advisor a third time was Zircone, on 22 January 2026.
**The first player without creator points promoted to Rating Advisor was KINGTONY, on 19 August 2019.
*The first players promoted to Moderator were Berkoo, f3lixsram, Rustam, Skitten, and Viprin.
**The first player demoted from Moderator was Skitten, on 16 September 2018.
**The first player promoted to Moderator a second time after being demoted was Berkoo, on 22 September 2019.
**The first player demoted from Moderator a second time was Berkoo, on 1 October 2021.
**The first and only player promoted directly to Moderator without being promoted to Rating Advisor first was AutoNick, on 7 January 2022.
*The first players promoted to Leaderboard Moderator were AutoNick, Cool, kr1t, mbed, and Viprin. With the exception of Cool, they also became the first players to hold all Moderator positions at the same time.
**The first player demoted from Leaderboard Moderator was AutoNick, on 25 September 2021.
**The first player promoted to Leaderboard Moderator a second time after being demoted was AutoNick, on 23 June 2022.
**The first and only player promoted to both Rating Advisor and Leaderboard Moderator at the same time was 4y4, on 08 June 2024.

Moderator longevity
*The longest-lasting current Rating Advisor is SirHadoken, who has been a Rating Advisor since 21 May 2017. Ryder was originally promoted before SirHadoken, but he has not held the position continuously.
**The longest-lasting Rating Advisor in the game's history is Viprin, who held the position from 25 August 2014 to 11 April 2026—a total of 4,247 days.
**The longest-lasting current Rating Advisor who has never been a Moderator is rafer, who has been a Rating Advisor since 10 April 2018. He is also the longest-lasting Rating Advisor in the game's history with this distinction.
*The longest-lasting current Moderator is SirHadoken, who has been a Moderator since 17 November 2017.
**This also makes SirHadoken the longest-lasting Moderator in the game's history.
*The longest-lasting current Leaderboard Moderator is Cool, who has been a Leaderboard Moderator since 28 August 2021. AutoNick was promoted at the same time, but he has not held the position continuously.
**This also makes Cool the longest-lasting Leaderboard Moderator in the game's history.
*The shortest-lasting Rating Advisor in the game's history is epiphani, who held the position for about a month in mid-2017. <!--Promoted 4 July 2017, demoted sometime in August 2017, don't know exact date. It is possible that one of the old mods with unknown promotion/demotion dates lasted for a shorter time than this-->
**This was later beaten by spark, who was a Rating Advisor for only four days from 25 to 29 August 2021. However, spark was later promoted to Rating Advisor a second time on 08 March 2024 and is no longer the shortest-lasting Rating Advisor.
*The shortest-lasting Moderator in the game's history is Balloons, who held the position for 154 days from 31 May to 1 November 2021.
*The shortest-lasting Leaderboard Moderator in the game's history is SurtGD, who held the position for 26 days from 14 January to 9 February 2024.
*There have been several instances where Moderators were demoted from their positions for an exceptionally short amount of time:
**Berkoo was demoted from Moderator on 22 September 2019 before being re-promoted the same day, less than three hours later. This remains the shortest demotion in the game's history.
**KeiAs and MrLorenzo were demoted from Rating Advisor on 27 February 2020 before being re-promoted the very next day on 28 February.
**FillipsMen was demoted from Moderator on 02 March 2022 before being re-promoted only five days later on 7 March.
**Juniper was demoted from Rating Advisor on 14 June 2026 before being re-promoted only four days later on 18 June.
