- Not to be confused with Poltergeist by LaZye, Poltergeist Reborn by ThePrimeEvil, or the main level Polargeist.
Poltergeist is a 1.9/2.1 Insane Demon level created, hack-verified, and published by Andromeda. It is a difficult remake of Nine Circles. The level's first half features notoriously erratic timings, with extremely tight spaces and awkward manoeuvres. Its difficulty decreases in the second half.
Description
Poltergeist begins with a simple memory cube section with a few jumps and tricks. A trivial ball section follows, featuring some saw blades. Another cube sequence comes next, including orbs. During a build-up before the drop, repeating blue pads pair with invisible size portals. It is the first sign of a later update. The player then faces two double-spikes, which signal the upcoming beat drop. When the beat drops, the difficulty spikes. The player enters one of the game's most notorious wave segments. Played at triple speed, this segment has awkward timings, tight spaces, and fakes.
The first segment focuses on precise click-control and timing in tight spaces. Next, the ship sequence at 50% requires straight-flying skill. Afterwards, the player enters a half-speed cube section with background text that reads, 'TAKE A BREAK'. This part features five sets of double-spikes. These spikes suddenly appear and then slowly fade.
Another wave segment follows, which is easier than the first. This segment features larger spaces and a more forgiving first half. It concludes with a tricky mini-wave section at triple speed through multiple tight spaces.
The level ends with a simple cube section at normal speed. A large 'GG' appears, then two final yellow orbs. At the end, the word 'ANDRO' appears, along with a quadruple-speed quadruple-spike jump.
Gameplay
Trivia
- Poltergeist was previously copyable.
- Poltergeist was buffed in March 2018.
- Many people called the update 'Cancergiest' because of the 'cancerous' timings and other assorted buffs at the beginning of Poltergeist.
- The 'THIS WILL BE RE-DECORATED SHUT UP' and 'NICE DECORATION' messages at the start most likely refer to Poltergeist Reborn, or hints of a redecorated update in the near future.
- In February 2019, Poltergeist was reverted to the original with a few bug fixes.
- Poltergeist has the highest difference in difficulty between the beginning and the wave part.
- The 'take a break' part, a characteristic simple cube/ship among an infamously hard wave, was replicated in other unrated Nine Circles levels like Planet Circles and Amity. This part was also used in an infamous mega-collaboration that Andromeda participated in, Phobos.
- Because of its extreme difficulty, Andromeda had to hack to verify it.
- Andromeda later re-beat it without hacks.
- Andromeda has made a harder remake called 'Poltergeist Reborn' in collaboration with Pennutoh, verified by ThePrimeEvil.
- Poltergeist Reborn was finally rated on 12 June 2021, after being unrated for over 3.5 years.[1]
- VoTcHi beat the buffed update legitimately after Andromeda.
- Poltergeist is Wavix's least favourite level in the game.[2]
- In ghost lore, a poltergeist is a type of ghost or spirit that is responsible for physical disturbances, such as loud noises and objects being moved or destroyed. They are purportedly capable of pinching, biting, hitting, and tripping people. Most accounts of poltergeists describe the movement or levitation of objects, such as furniture and cutlery, or the occurrence of certain noises, such as knocking on doors.

- At 92%, it is possible to skip the invisible spikes, and the player will be sent to one of the spikes.
- It is possible to skip the straight-fly segment, as shown in Nexus' re-completion video.
Notable fails
- GuitarHeroStyles crashed at 89% and 91%.
- mkComic crashed at the beginning of the last cube section twice because of a bug above and gave up on the level.
