RESONATE polarized the community upon release. While many praised the level for its unique 2.2 designs and high-quality animation, many players criticized its poor sight-readability and gameplay. Additionally, many stated that the decoration made it hard to distinguish the icon from the background, claiming that some sections, like the first spider section, were therefore more about memory than actual skill. Furthermore, the level suffered from lag issues upon release, mainly around the wave sections, which Bpi fixed. The criticism reached a point at which Bpi even received death threats, which they responded to in the level's comments:

Initially, Bpi and other creators pushed back against these claims, defending the level's gameplay, with Bpi stating that it had been playtested by [[Moderators|Elder Moderators]], but that they had to finish half of the level in three weeks. However, Bpi eventually conceded, introducing an Ultra Low Detail Mode (ULDM) and an update with 'sightreadability increased by 200%'. Bpi even stated in the level's comments, '[[Robert Topala|robtop]] give us new event', implying that they either wanted the level replaced by one the community would prefer or were sarcastically joining the hate.

RESONATE is a 2.2 Easy Demon level by Bpi, published on 12 April 2026. It is the 22nd Event Level. The level features a dynamic, flashing neon dance-party aesthetic, filled with intricate robotic moving parts and complex camera effects, that aligns with the theme of the song it uses, 'RESONATE' by Surya Hearts.

Description

[edit | edit source]

RESONATE begins with the player being launched into a mini-cube section that throws the icon up and down the screen, accompanied by several types of orbs. There is then a very quick mini-ball section where the player must click twice to hit blue orbs in time with the music, before the lyrics 'LET'S KEEP ON DANCIN'' flash on screen. The player gets thrown into a quick ship section, then into a short cube section, back to a ship section where the player is upside-down, and then into another cube section, which quickly becomes a ball section where the player must click orbs perfectly on beat. The player is then sent into a green dash orb that they must hold, which takes them through a highly decorated background and into a dual-cube section.

The dual-cube section is highly unconventional, as the player only needs to control one of their two cubes, as the other is permanently stuck in a closed tube of blue pads. The icon gets thrown up and down the screen with teleporters, then a quick spider section where the player must click to the beat to pass through, as it is hard to distinguish the icon from the background. From here, the level shows a traffic light that counts down from three, and the icon is thrown into a cube section that begins with an upside-down wave, which the player does not click. This cube section features many types of orbs that the player must click or hold, rather than the classic cube gameplay. The player is then thrown into spider gameplay, which also leans heavily on orbs rather than classic spider gameplay. The icon is then taken into a section with entirely blue orbs, in which the player does not need to click, before being thrown into another cube section. A small ship section appears near the end of this, in which the player must straight-fly through two sets of spikes, before a short cutscene occurs showing a robot girl at a train station. It cuts to the girl looking up at a fisheye-lensed CCTV camera, and the user is thrown into further cube gameplay, with the girl's head and Friday Night Funkin'-style arrows at the bottom of the screen.

There is then a short ball section that becomes a cube section. After four wires are plugged into a socket, the user is thrown into ship gameplay, where the player must dodge boxing gloves attached to springs and lasers while the robot girl sits on a giant boombox in the background. The icon is then taken to a cube section, where the player jumps on musical bars and then enters a wave section. It becomes further cube gameplay, before the player is again shown the lyrics, 'LET'S KEEP ON DANCIN'', the first three lyrics of which are shown on what appears to be a standard computer monitor.

Finally, the level ends with cube gameplay again, leaning heavily on orbs, before the end screen shows credits and the level's name, including the song used and a list of dedications.

Reception

[edit | edit source]

RESONATE polarized the community upon release. While many praised the level for its unique 2.2 designs and high-quality animation, many players criticized its poor sight-readability and gameplay. Additionally, many stated that the decoration made it hard to distinguish the icon from the background, claiming that some sections, like the first spider section, were therefore more about memory than actual skill. Furthermore, the level suffered from lag issues upon release, mainly around the wave sections, which Bpi fixed. The criticism reached a point at which Bpi even received death threats, which they responded to in the level's comments:

“
death threat over a cube game is wild get good LOL
~ Bpi

Initially, Bpi and other creators pushed back against these claims, defending the level's gameplay. Bpi stated that RESONATE had been playtested by Elder Moderators (now Moderators), but that they had to finish half of the level in three weeks. However, Bpi eventually conceded, introducing an Ultra Low Detail Mode (ULDM) and an update with 'sightreadability increased by 200%'. Bpi even stated in the level's comments, 'robtop give us new event', implying that they either wanted the level replaced by one the community would prefer or were sarcastically joining the hate.

Trivia

[edit | edit source]
  • RESONATE contains various references to video-game culture within its decoration, which include Friday Night Funkin', Among Us, and Hatsune Miku.
  • RESONATE is Bpi's sixth consecutive Legendary level.
    • This achievement makes Bpi the first creator with six Legendary levels.
    • Bpi's streak extended to seven with the release of Drifting Fortune.
  • The transition where the camera zooms into the girl's eye is likely a reference to this gif of Hatsune Miku.
