The gameplay is very tight, with little room for error, as the player often has to carefully jump on the edges of spikes and hit orbs precisely.

Shardscapes splits into two halves that contrast with each other, with a bright background for the first half and a dark one for the second. The song complements the gameplay by building suspense during the first half of the level.

A sequel, [[Nullscapes]], was released in [[Update 2.2]].

The player must carefully jump across the suspended structures, often requiring micro-clicks to avoid hitting blocks. There are several blue orbs that the player must hit during this section, and the player must double-click on two of them. After navigating a tight gap, the screen fades to white and then transitions to black as the second half begins.
*'''40-90%:''' The second half of Shardscapes is a long normal-speed robot section. This section features the same gameplay as the previous section, but with quicker timings. The player must hit many yellow, green, and red orbs, some of which they should double-click on. At 74%, the player must triple-click on a green orb to proceed.

*Shardscapes was rated on 20 May 2022 and placed at #33 on the [[Geometry Dash Demonlist|Demonlist]] on 13 June 2022, above [[Bloodlust]] and below [[Silent Club]].
**This addition pushed Sephiroth into the Extended List and Rate Demon into the Legacy List.
**Shardscapes is exactly the 30,000th rated level in the game.
*Shardscapes was initially set to be verified by [https://www.youtube.com/@GDMoosh Moosh], however he quickly dropped the level. [https://www.youtube.com/@MrSpaghettiGD MrSpaghetti] was the second level, but he also stopped playing it. Eventually the verification landed on eiruni (kiseta).
*Kiba initially thought that Shardscapes would be low Main List/high Extended List difficulty at the time of its verification, and didn't expect it to be harder than Bloodlust, which was Top 30 at the time.
