==User coins==
Sidestep has three user coins.
*The first coin is located at 39% in the cube sequence, requiring the player to time their jump late to hit a pink pad past a yellow one to reach the coin below.
*The second coin is located at 73% in the mini-ship sequence, requiring the player to carefully swoop up to reach the coin above without hitting the spike structure ahead.
*The third and final coin is located in the final ship sequence at 98%. This coin requires obtaining a key located at 37% in the cube sequence by hitting an invisible yellow orb above the first triple-spike. Collecting the key will display a graphic in the top right showing the coin appearing in its designated location for the player to collect freely.

Sidestep is a 2.0/2.1 Easy Demon level by ChaSe. It is the first level of the Demon Gauntlet.

Description

[edit | edit source]
  • 0-10%: Sidestep begins with a simple half-speed mini-cube section containing a few easy jumps. In this section, the player can turn off special effects to improve performance.
  • 10-15%: The level transitions to ship gameplay. This section contains a couple of gravity- and size portals.
  • 15-21%: Afterwards, a bit of ball gameplay appears. This section features basic gameplay that finishes with gravity portals and orbs.
  • 21-39%: After an automatic transition, the beat drops, and the player begins to change game-modes as follows rapidly: wave, UFO, cube, ship, ball, wave, cube, UFO, wave and ball, with each game-mode lasting no more than a couple of seconds. After the last ball segment, the player transitions into a brief double-speed cube section that contains a couple of sets of triple-spikes.
  • 39-56%: The player jumps into another deluge of game-mode transitions at triple speed, although the transitions are a bit slower this time. Here, the ship sequences and the UFO segments need quite a bit of straight-fly skill and dexterity to pass.
  • 56-73%: The player enters a double-speed dual-cube segment with numerous moving blocks and constant size portals. It also contains a dual-cube and ball segment consisting of orb timings and gravity portals.
  • 73-92%: After an automatic transition, the player enters a triple-speed ship sequence that requires some sense of straight-fly to pass. A fast and tricky cube section follows, which soon changes into wave, UFO, wave, and a cube section.
  • 92-100%: Finally, the player enters a tricky half-speed ship sequence. After some spike-dodging, the level ends with pixel art of the level's name and the creator's name.

Trivia

[edit | edit source]
  • Sidestep was initially rated a Hard Demon. After it received a nerf, it eventually ended up downgraded to a Medium Demon, and later to an Easy Demon, in part due to its exposure as a gauntlet level and its higher frequency of being rated by players.
  • There is a text saying 'Every level needs a triple' at the triple-spike section.
  • Sidestep received an update in June 2022, fixing a bug at the dual which made it impossible on higher refresh rates.
  • In the part where it says 'each level needs a triple :)', hitting an invisible yellow orb above the first triple-spike will change the text to '...or not...'
