New level, Hexagon Force

Update 1.8 is an update in Geometry Dash that was released on August 7, 2014. It primarily added Hexagon Force, dual mode portals, and slope ground objects.

Introductions

The most noticeable introduction into the full version was the addition of Hexagon Force, which was seen in the sneak peek of the update. This level marked the first appearance of the sloped surfaces, which allowed the icon to travel at different angles. Within Hexagon Force, the brand new "Dual Mode" portals are seen and used for the first time. This mode required players to control two characters at once.

Outside of the new level, the 1.8 update introduced four new icons and several other colors. This included the secret achievements given for tapping the icons on the home screen. New kinds of black thorns, saw blades and decorations could also be added using the level editor, as well as being able to use a new "Hexagons" background and floor theme. More blocks were also added, as shown in the sneak peek. The Play-Test mode was also introduced, allowing creators to test the level's obstacles on the go without having to "Save and Play", making the character leave a guideline that served as a reference to where the character went through in the test. The "2 player mode" was also introduced in the editor, so 2 players could control each individual character itself during a Dual Mode segment, by tapping different sides of the game screen.

In Geometry Dash Lite, the level Jumper was introduced for the first time. It was also considered one of the easier Insane levels in the full version, and became the second level in the free version to have an Insane difficulty. In Update 1.9, the difficulty of Jumper was changed to Harder and Can't Let Go was changed to hard.

Trivia

  • In the level editor, the dual portals appears without a line on the triangle, but if you play the level, the dual portals appears as normal, like all the others (aside from speed portals).
  • In the first image, there is a slope on the left that was slightly modified before it was added to the game. In the game, it no longer has the vertical line splitting it into two. This vertical line however is still surprisingly seen in the invisible variant of the slope.
  • If you look at the end of the sneek peek, you can see that the dual section is shown differently to the actual level.
  • This is the 6th update to not add a brand new game mode (vehicle).
