SUPERHATEMEWORLD was first previewed on 22 April 2018,<ref>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCL_Q-k2jwU</ref> showcasing some decoration and the entire layout. The first version of the layout was created on the [[Update 1.9|1.9]] Geometry Dash Private Server (GDPS).

On 11 April 2019, the second version of SHMW was showcased on icedcave's channel,<ref>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHkwgXEc7uw</ref> showing the entire level, including decorations. Two days later, icedcave uploaded a run of 58-100%.<ref>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=855OgjN5wQs</ref> About a year after this run, icedcave returned to the level on 5 March 2020, achieving 43% on its unnerfed version.<ref>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8GRGybEGhys</ref> After these two runs, the level fades into obscurity.

A couple of years later, on 3 September 2021, a player named UFokinWotM8 (also known as UFWM) picked up the level and achieved two runs, 52% and 63-100%.<ref>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPxceKHRXnk</ref> UFWM claimed he would try to complete SHMW, as he got those previously stated runs within two hours of picking the level up. In the next couple of days, UFWM made fast progress on this version of SHMW, achieving 74% on 5 September 2021,<ref>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=elEouH4rMqc</ref> and 88% on 6 September 2021.<ref>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VImbB9YsWq4</ref> Finally, on 7 September 2021, UFWM verified the unnerfed, second version of SUPERHATEMEWORLD in 6,102 attempts;<ref name="UFWM" /> however, the level remained unrated.

Two months later, on 27 November 2021, river uploaded a video titled 'my part in SUPERHATEMEWORLD'.<ref>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lEcB4y-_dAA</ref> This informed the community that EndLevel and icedcave were hosting a re-deco of the level in its unnerfed state, as well as buffing many parts. Many other creators in the redecorated version uploaded their parts in the next two months, including icedcave, who previewed his part on 2 December 2021.<ref>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5lX1b5VLs8</ref>

On 30 January 2022, UFWM announced that he would be the official verifier of the remake, additionally showing that he had achieved 43%.<ref>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j3LC52Yn-BE</ref> He made fast progress on the new version, achieving 56% on 2 February 2022<ref>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYf6AmEd4mA</ref> and achieving 69%, as well as 63-100% on 6 February 2022.<ref>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fdtosyoUJxs</ref> After silence about the level's progress, UFWM, unfortunately, announced that he would be dropping the SHMW remake due to university commitments and giving the level to the player, declan.<ref>https://www.youtube.com/post/UgkxdmWztVkMr-wB-i1QR98EebV9G4Y62sHs</ref>

Since declan has privatised all the [[Geometry Dash]] content on his YouTube channel, his progress on SHMW is not very well known. After declan disappeared from YouTube and Geometry Dash, the level's verification process stalled for a couple of months.

Completely out of nowhere, on 30 September 2022, Cursed uploaded his verification video for the remake of SUPERHATEMEWORLD.<ref name="Cursed" /> The level took Cursed 9,994 attempts to verify.
