It is also notoriously buggy and inconsistent—a frequent feature in Rustam's levels. As the original verification was illegitimate, many people considered Sunix the level's verifier, as he was the first person to beat the level with proven legitimacy. ==History== Devil Vortex was somewhat started in Update 2.0 when Rustam entered Viprin's Creator Contest 7, which was to decide the replacement for Manix648's part in Yatagarasu. Rustam's entry featured fast-paced gameplay with many portal changes. However, AbstractDark won the contest, so Rustam decided to use his part for a new hell-themed level—Devil Vortex. Rustam chose ToshDeluxe as the verifier of this level, who was a fairly skilled and well-known player. ToshDeluxe buffed the level to an Extreme Demon when he received it and started making some good progress in a fair amount of time, getting a record of 24-60% within a week. This montage could also be considered a 'preview' of Devil Vortex. However, because ToshDeluxe was also practising Artificial Ideology at that time, he did not make any more progress until a few weeks later. On 26 February 2017, after the first progress video, ToshDeluxe officially started practising Devil Vortex and achieved a record of 43%, reaching the grey half-speed cube section. He also noted that it was harder than Bloodbath. On 27 March 2017, about a month after the second progress video, ToshDeluxe achieved a respectable record of 15-64%, marking a short yet accomplished run. On 21 April 2017, ToshDeluxe finally 'verified' Devil Vortex after roughly 5,000 attempts, a surprisingly low amount likely due to the short length. However, he has gotten several hacking accusations, and rumours spread out in the community due to the verification video having several lag spikes and glitches, which caused several people to believe Devil Vortex was hacked. However, ToshDeluxe managed to defend himself with points, such as stating that invisible gravity portals caused the 'strange' movement at the mini-wave section in the level, and that sawblades rotating the wrong way were going the same way before a 'cut' in the video. Eventually, ToshDeluxe would seemingly clear his name, and Devil Vortex was rated shortly afterwards. On 23 July 2023, after over six years, zcylix would prove ToshDeluxe for semi-automating Devil Vortex. Unfortunately, his video did not fully explain the evidence correctly. Essentially, the key evidence was that particles emitted from the wave hit the ground or ceiling multiple times during gravity changes caused by blue pads. In contrast, when there are no gravity changes, these particles only emit the first time the wave makes contact with these surfaces. This discovery makes it the verification of a level that took the longest to confirm as illegitimate. Sunix was the first legitimate victor on 1 July 2017. ==Description== *0-10%: Devil Vortex begins with a half-speed mini-ship sequence. It requires extreme straight-flying skills due to the very tight spaces between red obstacles. It then transitions to a mini-wave segment where the player must swerve through tight spaces and occasional gravity changes. *10-17%: The gameplay continues with a short mini-ball sequence featuring some orb and spike timings, and the music speeds up. *17-42%: The drop begins with a triple-speed mini-ship part requiring some straight-flying through a skull. The mini-ship then transitions into a brief mini-wave, a brief mini-ball, a brief mini-ship straight-fly section and then a half-speed wave with spam. Then, the level transitions into a short UFO part with some pink orb timings. The level regains speed and transitions into a triple-speed ball section with some ridiculously hard orb- and spike timings. *42-59%: A half-speed, grey-coloured, tight cube section, including a demon spectating the player and limited vision starts; ridiculous timings are needed to complete this section. Then, the player changes to a robot section with the same colour and design; this part requires some small clicks and difficult timings to pass. A mini/normal wave spam continues with a monochromatic grey colour scheme, *59-74%: When the grey fades back to red, the level transitions briefly into a dual cube. Then, it transitions into a normal-sized ship straight-fly section with yellow orbs inside of gravity portals, after which a skull with arms flailing around in front of the player appears, obscuring their vision in the ship sequence. The levels then briefly transition into a cube with two orb timings, then a very tight mini-wave with spikes covering some of the slopes, making it incredibly difficult to get through. *74-83%: After passing the mini-wave, the player enters a half-speed normal-sized swing-copter with tight spaces and difficult pink pad timings. *83-100%: When the swing-copter sequence ends, the hellish part of the level begins, and a normal speed wave starts the section with invisible sawblades creating insane timings. It is also where the level becomes impossible for 60Hz players due to a bit of luck-based and buggy timing. The sequence then alternates between straight-flying and wave spam. When the section ends, the half-speed outro begins with some demon art featuring the text 'Devil Vortex, Created by Rustam, Verified by ToshDeluxe. Inspired by Weo (referencing weoweoteo) Yata'. ==Gameplay== _3lbqeomjhU ==Trivia== *Devil Vortex was placed at #6 on the Demonlist on 7 June 2017, above Sakupen Hell and below Bausha Vortex. **This addition pushed Bloodbath out of the Top 10 for the second time and Duelo Maestro into the Legacy List. *Devil Vortex was unintentionally placed at #1 on the Demonlist on 30 March 2019, but it was later reverted before April Fools' Day. *Devil Vortex was originally a Hard-Insane Demon, but ToshDeluxe buffed it to Extreme Demon difficulty. *weoweoteo used his evidence from TrusTa, not from looking at the video himself. *Many players have complained about buggy (especially on 60Hz) and annoying gameplay on Devil Vortex. For this reason, the level received extreme criticism, and at its release, a controversy surrounded it (most of which has passed). *ToshDeluxe received many hacking/cutting/automating accusations from people such as MeatiusGaming and weoweoteo. weoweoteo made a video about ToshDeluxe's defence video (in which Tosh says he did not hack or cut the level). weoweoteo says that it was impossible on 60Hz. ToshDeluxe said 83% is nearly impossible and requires 'frame perfect' timing (unless you have a 144Hz+ monitor). ToshDeluxe then made a video a day later after weoweoteo did. He talked about weoweoteo's video that was 'proof' Devil Vortex was not verified legitimately. weoweoteo's video was removed a few days later. **Later, npesta and many others accused ToshDeluxe of semi-automating because of 54 random objects with strange sawblade placements at the top of Devil Vortex. ToshDeluxe has mostly deflected these claims, but many still doubt ToshDeluxe's legitimacy while verifying Devil Vortex and consider ToshDeluxe's evidence unable to prove anything. ***Those 54 objects in the level, commonly known as 'Devil Vortex Saws', eventually became a meme circulating roughly in 2020. The meme later appeared in Reddit's social experiment r/place, featuring a QR code attached to the stamp that led to a rickroll video. **Ironically, ToshDeluxe is also among the many people involved in exposing Noctalium. **This drama has primarily boiled over, and many consider the verification illegitimate. ***However, zcylix provided new evidence and confirmed its illegitimacy after over six years. *Many players considered Devil Vortex 'impossible' due to the first ship part and the mini-wave spam near the middle. *The placement of reeses potentially on 25 March 2023 pushed Devil Vortex into the Legacy List of the Demonlist after just under six years. **Devil Vortex dethroned Artificial Ascent's previous record of 2,078 days for the longest-standing level before being pushed into the Legacy List at the time with 2,117 days. The record is now held by Zodiac at 2,696 days. ==Videos== ==References== <references />
