It was originally set to be verified by TrusTa, but it was given to knobbelboy and later Technical after both of the previous verifiers decided to quit the level. ==History== ===Ouroboros being born=== Soon after SubSonic was verified by Combined, Viprin said he had about sixteen more mega-collaborations planned, two of which were set to be Extreme Demon levels. On 10 September 2017, Viprin released Digital Descent, one of the Extreme Demon levels he was talking about (also verified by Combined). On 17 March 2018, Viprin uploaded the first preview of Ouroboros. The parts featured Viprin's part and Loserchik67's part. About seven months later, on 1 October 2018, Viprin uploaded the second preview of Ouroboros. The parts he previewed in this video were the first five parts of the level, AbstractDark, Terron, Rustam/TrusTa, Darwin, and TheDevon. He stated in the description that TrusTa would verify the level once it was complete. Around the end of 2018, Viprin stated that TrusTa would no longer be verifying Ouroboros due to 'real-life stuff' and would be giving it to knobbelboy. It would be revealed to the public on 6 January 2019, when Viprin uploaded the third preview of Ouroboros to his channel. This video features the first nine parts of the level. Eventually, in late February 2019, Ouroboros was finally finished, and knobbelboy got straight to work on verifying. ===Verification process=== On 2 March 2019, knobbelboy began streaming progress on Ouroboros and got a record of 29%. As he practised, several creators were finishing their parts in the level. Two days later, on 4 March 2019, ChaSe released a video showcasing his part in the level. In the video description, he stated that his part uses around 37,000 objects due to all the details he added. The next day, however, he released a second video showcasing his second part in the level, which consisted of a fast-paced dragon boss fight and used roughly 40,000 objects. On the same day, OSIRIS released a video showcasing his part in the level. In the video description, he explained that the background is inspired by a city in flames, destroyed by a dragon. Four days later, on 9 March 2019, knobbelboy achieved an incredible 49%. In the video description, he predicted it would likely be harder than Plasma Pulse Finale in its current state. After a long absence on 24 March 2019, he achieved runs of 65-100% and 52-93%. In the video description, he stated that he still does not think it is harder than Plasma Pulse Finale, but still believes it is at least as hard as Yatagarasu. The next day, on 25 March 2019, Darwin uploaded a video showcasing his updated part in the level, which contained some new pulses and a few minor details. After a long period of inactivity, on 4 May 2019, knobbelboy achieved a new record of 67% but stated that the level was slightly nerfed. However, on 14 July, knobbelboy set a new record of 71% but announced in the video description that it would be his final progress run on the level due to a three-week vacation. Viprin then passed the verification on to Technical, who quickly achieved records of 31% and 67-100% the next day. Two days later, on 17 July, he achieved an unbelievable 76%. About a week later, on 25 July 2019, he recorded an insane record of 90% in just under 10,000 attempts. On 27 July 2019, shortly after receiving a 95% fail, Technical finally verified Ouroboros in 10,351 attempts. ==Description== *0-4% (AbstractDark): Ouroboros begins with AbstractDark's part holding a Low Detail Mode key right before the gameplay begins. A normal-speed cube is used, and a dash orb, two green jump orbs, and yet another dash orb are used to get the level started. Shortly after, the player enters a robot segment and continues with mostly orb-based gameplay. Timing also plays a big part in this robot segment, as the speed has not yet been fully built up. Just before the next part, a double-speed portal is passed to build up the difficulty for the next part. *4-13% (Terron): The robot goes back to the cube form, now mini and a more fast-paced gameplay section approaches. Many orbs start off the part, which then come at the player with a short straight-fly. Then comes a narrow spider, followed by a quick mini-wave that transitions into a cube, which speeds up even more, reaching triple speed. A few more orb jumps follow, and then a quick UFO segment into another cube, quickly followed by a wave that switches size mid-gameplay. Finishing Terron's part is a long double-speed ship sequence with a few gravity switches and size/speed changes, as well as tight gameplay overall. *13-22% (Rustam + TrusTa): The gameplay transitions from Terron's part to Rustam's via a quick cube section and the screen turning white for a second. The gameplay starts with a cube avoiding several arms as it transforms into a ball. After that is a wave requiring a single click and then a small cube maze, followed by a short ball segment into another single-click wave. This wave then comes to a more drawn-out ball section with lots of timings, followed by a long wave segment with both gravity and size portals. Finally, there is a cube section where the main boss, the dragon 'Ouroboros', is shown before an auto segment takes the player to the next creator's part. *22-30% (Darwin): The speed goes back to double and starts with more tricky jump orb gameplay as a cube, with art resembling a volcano in the background visible throughout the whole part. The first cube section is followed by a short but difficult ship sequence and then back to a cube, although now at triple speed and with even more orbs to hit. Then, right before the second half begins, an extremely tight mini-wave section emerges, similar to those found in ZAPHKIEL. A robot segment follows and contains many timed jumps to pass through before it goes to a cube, then back to the robot shortly after. The part finishes with another incredibly narrow wave segment at normal size and quadruple speed before the player is rewarded with a quick auto section and a single jump to keep going. *30-37% (TheDevon): This part focuses more on decoration than art, as most previous parts have. The entire part is played in ship form, starting with a dual-mini-ship at half speed. A monster opens its mouth to let the player through. Rocks then float up from the ground as the player approaches two more monsters, letting the player pass. Before Devon's name and icon appear, the speed returns to normal, and flashing lights appear in the background. Yet another monster opens its mouth, and the ship then goes single and to double speed for the final seconds of the part. More speed changes appear to the beat of the song as the ground and ceiling begin to flow, and a text over a black background finishes the part reading '!WATCH OUT!' *37-42% (Ferdefunky): In the beginning, the player switches back into a cube at quadruple speed. There are many orbs and pads to hit. Eventually, the player becomes a spider. Throughout the section, there are a couple of times when rocks fall from the ceiling, and giant spikes constantly pop out of the ground and the ceiling. In the end, the screen flashes white, signalling the end of the section. *42-48% (DesTicY): As in the previous section, it is also very fast-paced. The player begins as a cube and appears on a bridge over lava. The section soon becomes a ball, and the bridge disappears. Following the ball is a quick UFO and then a ship. In the end, the player becomes a cube again. The player hits a triple-speed portal, and the screen flashes white. *48-53% (ChaSe): This is one of the more confusing parts in the level, as the part starts with a very confusing triple-speed cube sequence, then a little bit of spam in the wave, big and mini. After this, the speed quadruples, and the player must do a bit of straight-fly and timings. The part ends with a mini-cube featuring five orbs and a blue pad auto part. *53-58% (Viprin): This part starts with a brief ship featuring two gravity portals before the player must do a very spammy cube right after. Next is some UFO jumps, and then the part ends with some cube spam. *58-61% (G4lvatron + TrusTa): This is one of the shorter parts in the level. This part starts with a half-speed cube. The gameplay gradually rises, then speeds up into a double-speed UFO. *61-67% (OSIRIS): This part begins with a mini-cube getting launched into the air, then it transitions to a tight ship. After a bit, the game-mode switches back to the cube, and the size becomes more varied. Eventually, the speed doubles, and the player must handle some UFO timings. Then the speed returns to normal, and the gameplay alternates between wave and cube quite a bit. Eventually, the player gets launched on a yellow pad into the next part. *67-78% (Loserchik67): It is time for the preparation for the battle with the boss. At half speed, the player reaches the castle and then gets inside (all this is perfectly illustrated in the background). The gameplay mainly consists of not only flat but also inclined surfaces, which can make it difficult for ships to pass through the waves. *78-100% (ChaSe): After a long passage is the finale—the last 20%, which takes the battle with Ouroboros. As soon as the player exits the castle, the boss appears. While the player flies around obstacles in a narrow tunnel, Ouroboros only attacks them once, firing fireballs. Then it goes into a rage (judging by the decorations that have changed into shades of red) and attacks with greater frequency, and now the player must fly around the balls only in the shape of a ship, complicating the battle with a large number of effects. In the end, an animation appears where Ouroboros bites its tail, along with the final art and the level's title. ==Gameplay== HNR-eOfYum4 ==First 10 victors== {| class="wikitable" !Victor # !Player !Date Completed !Total Attempts !Furthest Fail !Video |- |Verifier |Technical |27 July 2019 |10,351 |95% |YouTube |- |1 |rori |28 July 2019 |~4,500 |64% |YouTube |- |2 |Rainstorm |2 August 2019 |7,248 |95% |YouTube |- |3 |BrianTheBurger |4 August 2019 |7,657 |92% |YouTube |- |4 |Dolphy |10 August 2019 |10,453 |95% |YouTube |- |5 |stardream999 |11 August 2019 |13456 |95% |YouTube |- |6 |Wolfy |13 August 2019 |9,814 |83% |YouTube |- |7 |Aether22 |5 October 2019 |~30,000 |? |YouTube |- |8 |Zeronium |1 November 2019 |18,006 |82% |YouTube |- |9 |Intel |4 December 2019 |>23,176 |95% |YouTube |- |10 |Ozzy |7 December 2019 |18,883 |90% |YouTube |} ==Trivia== *Ouroboros was rated on 27 July 2019 and placed at #11 on the Demonlist on 1 August 2019, above Sonic Wave and below Ragnarok. **This addition pushed Sakupen Hell into the Extended List for the second time and Penombre into the Legacy List. ***Before the initial placement, Sakupen Hell was moved from #69 to #79 on 8 July 2019, unintentionally. *Ouroboros was nominated for and achieved Best Demon Megacollab in the Geometry Dash 2.1 Awards. *Ouroboros was ranked #44 in GDToday's 100 Greatest Levels of All Time list. *Ouroboros is the first of two Viprin mega-collaborations that were both verified by Technical, the second verification being Cybernetic Crescent. *Ouroboros was originally planned as the official sequel to Yatagarasu. However, it is now considered more of a spiritual sequel. *The Ouroboros in mythology is an ancient symbol depicting a serpent or a dragon eating its tail. *Technical initially uploaded Ouroboros on Viprin's account under the name OUROBOROS, as he forgot to change the name he was using for his copy. The level's name was fixed to Ouroboros when RobTop rated it. *The stream that Technical verified Ouroboros in is currently the most viewers he has ever gotten on a stream, surpassing 3,200 viewers at once. **It is also the only stream he has had on the YouTube Live Gaming page. *During November 2020, Adr1anGD, MrSpaghetti, and Foundmyprime all beat Ouroboros within a week, from 25 to 29 November, leading to it being called 'Ouroboros Week'. *Some of the parts could be a reference to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, as stated by Viprin in his Ouroboros video. *According to Viprin, development started in early 2.1, and Ouroboros was planned to be a hell Demon with purple and orange colours. *AbstractDark was the first to finish their part. The other creators inspired their parts using the colour palette. *Ouroboros received mixed to negative reviews, with npesta hating it, followed by AeonAir. *The placement of Mewnel on 29 September 2024 pushed Ouroboros into the Legacy List of the Demonlist. ==References== <references/>
