Bloodbath (often abbreviated as BB) is a 1.9-2.1 Extreme Demon mega-collaboration level hosted and verified by Riot on 12 August 2015. It is a hell-themed level that focuses on tight gameplay with non-cube game-modes. Following its verification, Bloodbath was initially placed at #1 on the Official Extreme and Insane Demon Records List (nowadays known as the Demonlist), and is famous for remaining uncontested in that position for a year until Sakupen Hell was released, marking the beginning of Bloodbath's descent in perceived difficulty. It is the second instalment of the 'Apocalyptic Trilogy' of hell-themed Extreme Demon levels, succeeding Cataclysm and preceding aftermath. A buffed and extended remake, Bloodlust, was verified by knobbelboy and released in Update 2.1.

Bloodbath is the hardest non-impossible demon ever created. Riot Verified this level in his Stream.
One of the game's most popular and recognisable levels, Bloodbath is the most downloaded level of all time, the most liked level not featured in a Map Pack or Gauntlet, and the sixth-most liked level of all time. In the 'Geometry Dash 10-Year Anniversary' presentation, the level was voted the second most favourite level of players, behind Change of Scene.
Description
This level is mostly inspired from Cataclysm, incorporating red color schemes (though it changes to grey at Evasium's part). The music starts at approximately the point where Gboy ended Cataclysm. It also incorporates many hard parts like flying in between close spike passages, much like the level it was based on.

Gameplay
History
The level starts with the ship gameplay at the time where Gboy ended cataclysm. The level fades to a brighetr color scheme of black and red, and quickly progresses to a double speed cube, then a triple speed ship.
Origin and creation
Before Bloodbath, Riot was involved in the creation of Silent Akbar (currently known as Tartarus) along with Cyclic and Aurorus, which was intended to surpass the difficulty of ICE Carbon Diablo X. However, it was abandoned due to its impossible difficulty. Subsequently, Riot decided to host another project.

The triple speed ship has flashing colors, and a straight 1.5 block space to fly through, gravity portals switching the gravity of the ship periodically to the beat. The space is made up of spikes held by chains.
On 2 June 2015, Riot uploaded the first preview of a new level titled 'Bloodbath', featuring difficult ship parts. A week later, Riot posted the second preview of Bloodbath, featuring Havok, Giron and Ggb0y's parts. Afterwards, Michigun uploaded a preview of his part in the level. On 6 July 2015, Riot uploaded a trailer video of Bloodbath featuring all the creators involved in the project.

The transition to the triple speed mini ball was a half speed fly up for a split second.
Verification process
Riot began making progress toward verifying Bloodbath, achieving 48% on 26 June 2015. He then reached 58% on 13 July, 65% on 3 August and then 90% on 6 August. Riot then crashed at 94%, during Ggb0y's part, on 8 August 2015, becoming his worst fail in the level. On 12 August 2015, Riot verified Bloodbath after 25,000+ attempts and numerous practice attempts on stream. The level would immediately be placed at #1 on the Geometry Dash forums Demonlist after its verification.

The next sequence is a triple speed mini ball with the same color scheme, and the objects flashing to the beat. At the end of the sequence, the ball goes on a yellow pad and a half-speed portal to transition to the next ship segment.
The race to beat Bloodbath
Since Bloodbath's verification and placement as the new hardest Demon, numerous skilled players have attempted to beat the level. Smokes and Sandstorm made the first progress; Smokes reached 25% a few days after the level was released, and then 27% and 34%. Afterwards, Smokes would temporarily pause his progress; at the same time, Sandstorm began practising the level, making progress on the first half and then on the second half before dropping the level.

The next triple speed ship segment is not straight flying, but up and down. The gravity changes rapidly, with a ramp at the end, with a open space holding Vermillion's signature. Thorns and gears are used for this part, and so is the before 2.0 brick blocks and plain black ramps.
Mabby01, a skilled player at that time, made significant progress on Bloodbath, reaching 61% on 16 January 2016 before beating Cataclysm a day later. She would get 66% on 5 February and 71% on 14 February. Like the other two, Mabby also dropped the level.

The half-speed ball after the ship requires precise timing; each tap is a note of the song. each platform that the ball lands on is held up by chains, and is made of red bricks at the corners and black blocks with two lines in the middle. Extra spikes make the level harder, and hexagons decorate the platforms. A time machine portal flips the screen while the player is still playing, with no break to get used to the backwards orientation. After the backwards segment, styled the same way as the forwards segment, the ball is pushed into a line of portals as the music crescendos and notes go higher.
The most notable race was between two skilled players: Surv and Quasar. On 8 February 2016, Quasar released his first progress video, showing progress of 42-79%. A week later, on 16 February 2016, he made further progress, completing the second half of Bloodbath. Quasar made his first substantial progress on the level, reaching 39% ten days later and halfway through the level a day after. Quasar would immediately catch a flu after his 61% progress, thus taking a break from his progress.

The music stops it's hectic, fast pace and starts a more peaceful section in a flat key. The level reflects that, and the speed turns to 1x speed. The hectic flashing stops, and a original cube sequence involving a triple spike, then a gravity change, occur. Torches are used in the background and they flicker. Thorns are seen on the ground again, and chains hold up the platforms. This segment is like a narrow hallway.
Surv started making progress on Bloodbath after beating Cataclysm. He would eventually crash at 96% on 6 March 2016, making it his worst fail in the game and the closest he had come to beating the level. After recovering, Quasar started to make more progress, reaching 77% on 9 March 2016. Finally, on 14 March 2016, seven months after the level's release, Quasar became the first victor of Bloodbath after a fail at 90% and over 28,000+ attempts.

A 1.5 block "narrow hallway" ship sequence starts right after the last triple spike. Spikes make up the ground and the top.
Legacy
Bloodbath remains one of the most popular Extreme Demon levels in Geometry Dash, if not the most popular. It is currently the most downloaded and liked Extreme Demon in-game. The level remained unbeaten for seven months until Quasar beat it on 14 March 2016.

There is a ball sequence after the ship, making the ball flip through a one-block space made of two spikes to reach the platform on the top.
The verification of Bloodbath and its subsequent lengthy tenure as the hardest level established the community standard of scrutinising the verification of difficult levels. While two other levels, Theory of Darkness and unnerfed Phobos, temporarily managed to dethrone Bloodbath, both levels were ultimately unrated due to their hacked verifications.

A UFO sequence is next, and the trick is to tap when a player is about to hit a spike. This gameplay makes this part harder than the rest.
Bloodbath was also the first Top 1 Demon level to remain in the top spot for over a year, officially dethroned by Sakupen Hell on 14 August 2016. With the placement of SINGULARITY on the Demonlist, Bloodbath fell out of the Top 50 hardest Demons. It had remained in the Top 50 for nearly 40 months, longer than any other Extreme Demon besides Sonic Wave at the time. The record is now held by Zodiac, which remained in the Top 50 for over five years until Terminal Rampancy's movement from #52 to #44 on 30 June 2024.

Another cube sequence follows, with more triple spikes, styled the exact same way. The music is still playing it's peaceful, flat-key melody.
Bloodbath's success led to a remake; Manix648 and several other creators created a redecorated extended version named Bloodlust, which Quasar was initially set to verify. The verification was ultimately handed to knobbelboy due to the former's disappearance. knobbelboy verified Bloodlust in 121,296 attempts after failing at 97% and 98%. Like Bloodbath, the level was also placed #1 on the Demonlist. It remained at that spot for over a year until Zodiac dethroned it.

A one-space wave follows, and one can see the flashing red MICHIGUN in the right corner. This is the end of the "hallway".
Description
Bloodbath depicts a red-and-black 'hell' theme, featuring critical speed changes, tight spaces, and precise timing, culminating in a relentless series of complex gameplay sequences. Those sequences feature many legacy segments.

A dual part, only lasting for a few seconds, turns the color scheme gray for the first and only time.
*0-10% (weoweoteo): Bloodbath begins with a ship sequence continuing from Cataclysm, transitioning into a red-and-black colour scheme with a face resembling his icon above. The sequence progresses through a half-speed portal, a double-speed cube and a triple-speed ship with flashing colours, gravity changes and a tight 1.5-block flying space, followed by a triple-speed mini-ball synced to the beat.
*10-25% (Vermillion): Next is a triple-speed ship sequence with frequent gravity changes, ending with a ramp leading to his signature. A half-speed ball sequence follows, requiring precise jumps synced to the song's notes, with platforms featuring red bricks, black blocks and extra spikes. A mirrored sequence flips the screen mid-gameplay, leading into a crescendo of gravity portals.
*25-33% (Michigun): This part is in dark red and slows the pace and shifts to a grey colour scheme, featuring a normal-speed cube sequence with triple spikes, gravity changes and a background of flickering torches, chains and thorns. A one-block-wide ship sequence, a narrow ball sequence with alternating gravity, a tight UFO sequence and another triple-spike cube sequence lead into a concluding narrow wave sequence with flashing red 'MICHIGUN' text.
*33-42% (Evasium): Next is a brief dual-cube sequence before transitioning into a half-speed ship sequence with wave-like movements through spiked obstacles. The ship turns mini midway as the background flashes to reveal additional details, leading into a mini-wave sequence where the correct path becomes visible through background flashes. A normal wave sequence with tight spaces follows, leading into a fast-paced UFO sequence with rapid gravity changes, pink orbs and a mini-UFO spam sequence that builds momentum as the music accelerates.
*42-54% (Crack): The music now shifts the key to D minor, and the level transitions into a blood-red background. This part features a chaotic triple-speed mini-ship sequence requiring extreme precision. A brief normal-speed sequence introduces a gravity change before returning to triple-speed straight-flying through Clubstep-like monsters with narrow flight paths. A half-speed cube sequence with challenging timings provides a short respite before accelerating into another high-speed sequence, culminating in 'Crack' text appearing before the transition.
*54-71% (ASonicMen): This part features a triple-speed mini-UFO sequence with tight manoeuvres through small gaps, rapid size and gravity changes, and a background of flashing clouds and pulsing circles. A brief half-speed moment interrupts the intensity before resuming triple speed, leading into a memory-based mini-ball sequence and a rapid spam sequence with nine blue orbs. The 'ASONIC' text appears before entering an auto cube transition sequence, followed by another brief speed change.
*71-80% (Etzer): Next is a triple-speed normal-sized UFO sequence with a more artistic, glow-heavy style, leading to a landing on his name that triggers gravity portals and orbs. A normal-speed ship sequence follows, requiring navigation through a deceptive gravity portal and a two-block-wide path before a brief triple-speed UFO sequence transitions into an awkward low-flying ship sequence inside a darkened tunnel, known for a meme about failing at 79%.
*80-88% (Havok): This part features a ball sequence similar to Vermillion's part, featuring orbs placed inside and outside blocks, along with tricky timing and invisible platforms. A mini-portal and half-speed transition increase the difficulty before the gameplay speeds up again, leading into a triple-speed sequence where 'HAVOK' appears in the background. A fast-paced UFO sequence with rapid gravity changes and sawblade obstacles follows, with arrows guiding the player to the correct path. The part concludes with a half-speed wave sequence that requires precise straight-wave control through a narrow path.
*88-93% (Giron): This part has Giron's signature 'G' appearing before transitioning to a triple-speed upside-down ship sequence with orbs dictating movement and tight 1.5-block flying spaces. A long, normal-sized straight-fly tests consistency before transitioning into a half-speed dual-cube sequence requiring precise jumps and orb activations, concluding with a brief non-dual auto sequence leading into the final stretch.
*93-98% (Ggb0y): This part features a half-speed ball sequence similar to Cataclysm, with red block platforms, chains and the words 'your blood' fading into view. A precisely timed blue orb leads into a brief UFO sequence, followed by a short upside-down straight-fly that poses a high risk of late-game failure. The final ball sequence contains numerous fake blocks, with 'GBOY' appearing at the top of the screen as the part concludes.
*98-100% (Riot): The final part of the level features a normal-speed semi-auto cube sequence that ends the level, displaying 'GG' above the cube and 'RIOT' below. A final set of triple spikes must be cleared to avoid a heartbreaking fail at 98% or 99%, while an alternate route allows for a precise jump at the end of Ggb0y's part, revealing Michigun's name as an Easter egg. The level concludes with a floating heart decoration above the final jump.

The gray color scheme continues as the music plays it's peaceful melody. A half-speed flying section consisting of spikes and gears make the player go slightly up and down in a wave-like one space fly. The background of the section flashes, revealing extra designs and thorns. The ship turns into a mini and continues the same flying style and color scheme. A small "evasium" can be seen, telling the player this is evasium's part.
Gameplay
p8uIkSxCZAU

A mini wave comes after the ship, and spikes serve as obstacles only at the top and bottom. The correct path taken is shown when the background flashes. the only red things in sight are the gears near the ground. A regular wave follows, and the gameplay is much like michigun's wave part.

Trivia
General
*Even though Bloodbath is 1 minute and 52 seconds long, in Update 1.9, it is XL when the duration is measured with the grid length of the level. It is now fixed, and the server now showcases it as Long.
*Bloodbath was ranked #4 in Geometry Dash Today's list of 'The Top 100 Greatest Geometry Dash Levels Of All Time'.
*There is a level called AfterCataBath, initially created by Zimnyte, combining Cataclysm, Bloodbath and aftermath into a single level. A buffed remake of AfterCataBath, titled Apocalyptic Trilogy, is a super-buffed, redecorated version.
*Riot originally stated that he would re-beat Bloodbath for his 400th Demon. However, this idea was later dismissed as he completed Spacelocked instead.
*Bloodbath, Quantum Processing and Red World Rebirth are Riot's only rated levels.
*There is an Easter egg at the end of Bloodbath at Ggb0y's part, where the player can position themselves to land on top of the 'GG' in Riot's part. If they succeed, the word 'Michigun' will appear.
*Sunix uploaded a buffed version of Bloodbath named Deambath. It includes a few extra spikes, and the ball parts in ASonicMen's and Vermillion's parts feature different gameplay.
**Deam was Sunix's old username.
**Similarly, he verified and uploaded 'Invisibath', which is essentially Bloodbath, except that everything is set to 10% opacity.
*Bloodbath has spawned many remakes. For some reason, nearly all of them still have the creators' names.
**Primarily, all the remakes are nerfed, except for Deambath and Bloodlust, which are buffed. Invisibath retains the original difficulty, however.
**All of Sunix's other remakes are unnerfed. These include Bloodbath in different shades of colour and an unnerfed 'Sh**ty' Bloodbath. He also planned to host a mega-collaboration for an actual unnerfed Bloodbath remake.
*In early November 2016, Bloodbath was hacked by a player named xX0T1Xx, also known as Anaban. He set a start position at the end (~80%) and included text explaining that he was leaving Geometry Dash. Since it was a start position, beating it did not reward the player with stars. Luckily, this has been fixed.
**Interestingly, nearly a decade after hacking Bloodbath, xX0T1Xx managed to beat Bloodbath on 21 September 2026.
*Riot has worked on a heavily buffed version of Bloodbath called Buffbath. Many of the ship gaps are notably much tighter than before. He originally intended this to be an update to Bloodbath, but after receiving criticism, he decided to make Buffbath a separate level with a secret way. The level is called 'blood bathtub hard v' and is on Riot's account under the ID 31288058.
**AGSEcho verified Buffbath on 2 August 2024.
**There is a redecorated version of Buffbath named Riots Demise.
*Bloodbath was made the Weekly Demon on 1 April 2019. It was done as an April Fools' joke.
*Bloodbath is #62 on the Low Refresh Rate Demonlist, above Dark Flare and below Carnage Mode.
**It is also #40 on the Mobile Demonlist, above Celestial Force and below Ethereal Artifice.
*Riot re-beat and updated Bloodbath in Update 2.11 to fix a 240Hz bug at 34% that would cause the player to crash into a spike when they hit the pink pads.
*It is possible to crash into the invisible blocks at 87%, npesta being the most notable player to die there.
*Bloodbath is the most-downloaded level, with over 150 million downloads and is the sixth-most liked level overall, with 5.3 million likes as of 10 April 2026.
**Bloodbath became the most downloaded Demon level in the game on 1 March 2026, surpassing The Nightmare.
***Bloodbath became the most downloaded level in the entire game on 10 April 2026, surpassing OuterSpace.
*Famous and viral streamer IShowSpeed played through an auto version of Bloodbath.
**Many of IShowSpeed's fans think Speed found a 'glitch' in Bloodbath, so they later made a video clip of Speed 'finding a glitch' to beat Bloodbath, roleplaying that Bloodbath's glitch was discovered, although it was proven to be a myth.
*In the level The Devourer, if the player misses a pink orb at 7%, it brings them to weoweoteo's part in Bloodbath.
*When Riot passes through the first dual part in the verification video, his saying 'swag' can be heard when entering Evasium's part. Many have misheard it as 'quack'. Over time, it has become a common tradition to say either 'quack' or 'swag' during that segment while playing the level.
*A remake of Bloodbath, Legacy, was built by CairoX that includes an unofficial extension.
*The song used for Bloodbath was temporarily removed due to Dimrain47's Newgrounds account being hacked. Because of this, songs, including 'At The Speed of Light', 'Duality' and 'The Disturbance', were removed from Newgrounds. Although downloading this song is no longer possible in Geometry Dash, it will still work and play if downloaded beforehand. The song was restored on Newgrounds between 23 and 24 October 2021.
*The name of the achievement for clearing 300 Demon levels in Normal Mode is called 'What a bloodbath'.

The UFO turns mini, and as the music accelerates and the drumbeat comes in, there is thorns and a line of purple orbs. A spamming up section is implemented as the song changes key and the level turns back to triple speed red and black.
Demonlist
*Upon the creation of the modern Demonlist on Pointercrate on 4 January 2017, Bloodbath was placed at #3, above Infernal Abyss and below Sakupen Hell.
*Bloodbath is regarded as the 21st instance of the hardest rated level in the game's history.
**Bloodbath is one of the levels to stand the longest on the list before getting pushed into the Legacy List, sitting at 1,997 days.
***Bloodlust has since surpassed this length, as it has stood for over 2,600 days before being pushed to the Legacy List.
**This placement makes Bloodbath the final level in the classic 'Apocalyptic Trilogy' (or the Hell Trilogy) to be pushed into the Legacy List.
**This placement makes Bloodbath the last level released in Update 1.9 to be pushed into the Legacy List.
**The same day Bloodbath fell into the Legacy List, the Demonlist website and the Geometry Dash servers coincidentally crashed.
*Bloodbath took Riot over 25,000 attempts to verify. Michigun and RobTop himself encouraged Riot to keep trying.
*People argued for a while that Sakupen Hell was harder than Bloodbath. Most people believe that Sakupen Hell is harder because of its difficult timings. However, some believe Bloodbath is harder due to its length being more than twice that of Sakupen Hell and its consistent difficulty. Sea said in his Sakupen Hell documentary that Sakupen Hell is harder because of the gameplay's 'sheer nature'. Sakupen Hell was later moved above Bloodbath on the Demonlist.
*Some players were revealed to have beaten Bloodbath illegitimately.
**ThePrimeEvil had claimed to beat Bloodbath but was later exposed for using hacks.
**TheRealSneaky claimed to beat Bloodbath on 75Hz but later admitted to hacking it.
**TacoMacho hacked Bloodbath four times but was exposed by nikrodox for accidentally streaming and speed-hacking.
**Aurorus hacked Bloodbath, but it was considered legitimate for a long time. Eventually, some allegations suggest that all his records were hacked, and now, he is listed among the community's hackers.
*On 2 July 2020, Bloodbath lost its distinction of being the level that remained the longest in the Top 50 on the Demonlist (having remained for 1,315 days) to Sonic Wave.
*Bloodbath was once the level that took the longest time to have any victors, taking seven months before Quasar became its first victor. It was surpassed by Avernus on 6 January 2024, which took nine months to be beaten by its first victor.
**Based After Based is the level that took the longest time after its verification to receive a victor, taking over 560 days.
*Bloodbath is the level with the highest number of completions while it was on the Demonlist, standing at 1,294 victors.
*Bloodbath is the level with the third-highest number of completions on the All Rated Extreme Demons List (AREDL), standing at over 8,300 victors.
**Bloodbath is the level with the second-highest number of completions on the Global Demonlist, amassing over 4,350 victors.
***Due to a large portion of completions never being submitted to either of the Demonlists, Bloodbath has significantly more victors than the combined amount of Pointercrate, AREDL, and Global Demonlist, with estimates ranging between 10,000 and 15,000.
*The placement of Alpha Baa X on 29 January 2021 pushed Bloodbath into the Legacy List of the Demonlist.
**Bloodbath amassed 1,294 total victors during its lifespan on the Demonlist, making it the first level in the history of Pointercrate to reach a milestone of 1,000 victors, alongside Sonic Wave (1,048), Cognition (1,232), Bloodlust (1,068), and Zodiac (1,020).

The song changes key, a full step up, but playing the melody before, only faster and more urgent. The background changes to a bloodred. The gamemode turns into a triple speed mini ship, and the gameplay is chaotic flying. Gears and ToE ring decor are found. After a brief 1x speed section, triple speed resumes and straight flying starts, making the player go through a clubstep-like "monster" with a half-space fly.

There is then a section where a yellow jump orb and increasing speeds are used, inside a 1-block tunnel.

There is then a section much like clubstep, with "monsters" at varying heights.

The next non-mini cube sequence starts at half-speed, but increases speed while giving the player a break; there is no need to tap. The color scheme and music is still the same. A "CRACK" is seen.

A triple speed mini UFO is next. The background turns a bit lighter and flashes to the beat. Gravity changes rapidly, and gears leave a one-space gap to manuever the UFO to the notes of the song. Clouds are scattered throughout the level, and pulsing circles can be found. The size changes midway, leaving a split second of double speed before returning to triple speed. After a few seconds, another moment of half-speed occurs before going back to triple speed.

Next up is a mini ball sequence at triple speed. The same style as before: thorns, clouds, and pulsing circles. More blocks than gears can be found, because this sequence is a ball. The platforms use gray and red, with black glow blocks. The platforms dim and glow brighter to the beat of the song. One part consists of nine blue orbs in a two-block space, requiring more spammng of the mouse or keyboard. After the spam, an "ASONICMEN" can be seen.

After the ball part, the music undergoes a large change in mood and style. The key goes flat again. An auto part happens, with the objects' borders flashing chaotically and the background, too. This indicates that the song, and the mood of the level will be hectic and fast again. The end of the auto gives the player a split-second of half-speed before returning to triple speed.

A triple speed not-mini UFO with a different style than the rest follows the auto. The music turns back into the music from cataclysm n the first ship segment. It is slightly more artistic; more decorations and glow are used. Soon after, a "ETZER" is seen. The player must land on the etzer and tap a pink orb. After that, the player must undergo many gravity portal jump orbs; jumping while changing gravity.

Next is a 1x non-mini ship part. This part is slightly easier; there is actually 2 blocks to fly through. Players must fly under the gravity portal; it is a trick. The ship mode turns into triple speed for a second.

The next segment is a triple speed UFO. Two jump orbs are tapped before tapping a third one right inside a ship portal.

The next ship is a straight fly near the bottom, the place all black except for the tunnel the player's ship is in.

A 1x speed original ball follows with the same style and blocks as vermillion's ball part, with jump orbs though. A mini portal and a half speed arrow make the gameplay harder after one second of full-size. The gameplay turns triple speed after a second, and 4 jump orbs must be tapped, and the signature "HAVOK" can be seen.

Another UFO segment follows, changing speed and gravity. Saws instead of gears are found, held onto the blocks being obstacles for the UFO. Arrows are found guiding the player onto the right path, and teh background pulses to the music.

Next is a half-speed regular wave. Here the player must manuever through a one-block straight wave, changing heights and gears here and there, similar to acropolis's final wave. The background pulses a brighter red to the beat of the music. A "G" can be seen just in front of the ship portal when the background flashes.

Next is a triple speed upside down ship. Jump orbs have to be tapped, and the fly is chaotic with only 1.5 blocks of space. At the final notes of the segment, a 1.5 block straight fly with a regular size ship ends the segment.

The next segment is a half speed dual. One cube is large, and one is mini. Consecutive jump orbs are tapped, and the word "GIRON" can be seen brighter than all the other blocks, with chains connecting it to the blocks and floor. A small non-dual auto, around .4 seconds, ends the section.

A half-speed ball is next, similar to the one in catacysm. red blocks with chains in them are seen, and the words "sour blood" can be seen.

A one-second UFO is next, leading to the final ship, ball and cube.

The final ship part is the same style as the ball, and there is a upside-down one block straight fly.

The final ball uses tricks and tiny spikes with a full-size half speed ball. the words "GBOY" is seen.

The final notes holds a one-speed cube auto, with "GG" on the top of the cube and "riot" on the bottom. The level is complete.

Trivia
* This level took Riot over 30,000 attempts to verify. Even Robtop himself had to encourage Riot to keep on trying.
* There's an error in the level. It's at Etzer's flying section, where you can see an unfilled portion.
* It is said this level is hardest possible level on this game, which stopped argument about ICDX or Cataclysm is hardest.
* To date, no one has completed the level legitimately, with the exception of Riot himself.
* There is an easter egg at the very end of Bloodbath, at Gboys part, you can position yourself to land on top of the "GG". If you manage to do this, the word "Michigun" will appear.
* Riot says swag/quack in the beginning of evasium's section on the youtube video.

Bloodbath (often abbreviated as BB) is a 1.9-2.1 Extreme Demon mega-collaboration level hosted and verified by Riot on 12 August 2015.[1] It is a hell-themed level that focuses on tight gameplay with non-cube game-modes.

One of the game's most popular and recognisable levels, Bloodbath is the most downloaded level of all time, the most liked level not featured in a Map Pack or Gauntlet, and the sixth-most liked level of all time. In the 'Geometry Dash 10-Year Anniversary' presentation, the level was voted the second most favourite level of players, behind Change of Scene.[2]

History

Origin and creation

Before Bloodbath, Riot was involved in the creation of Silent Akbar (currently known as Tartarus) along with Cyclic and Aurorus, which was intended to surpass the difficulty of ICE Carbon Diablo X. However, it was abandoned due to its impossible difficulty. Subsequently, Riot decided to host another project.

On 2 June 2015, Riot uploaded the first preview of a new level titled 'Bloodbath', featuring difficult ship parts.[3] A week later, Riot posted the second preview of Bloodbath, featuring Havok, Giron and Ggb0y's parts. Afterwards, Michigun uploaded a preview of his part in the level.[4] On 6 July 2015, Riot uploaded a trailer video of Bloodbath featuring all the creators involved in the project.[5]

Verification process

Riot began making progress toward verifying Bloodbath, achieving 48% on 26 June 2015.[6] He then reached 58% on 13 July, 65% on 3 August and then 90% on 6 August.[6] Riot then crashed at 94%, during Ggb0y's part, on 8 August 2015, becoming his worst fail in the level.[7] On 12 August 2015, Riot verified Bloodbath after 25,000+ attempts and numerous practice attempts on stream.[1] The level would immediately be placed at #1 on the Geometry Dash forums Demonlist after its verification.

The race to beat Bloodbath

Since Bloodbath's verification and placement as the new hardest Demon, numerous skilled players have attempted to beat the level. Smokes and Sandstorm made the first progress; Smokes reached 25% a few days after the level was released,[8] and then 27% and 34%.[9][10] Afterwards, Smokes would temporarily pause his progress; at the same time, Sandstorm began practising the level, making progress on the first half and then on the second half before dropping the level.[11]

Mabby01, a skilled player at that time, made significant progress on Bloodbath, reaching 61% on 16 January 2016 before beating Cataclysm a day later.[12] She would get 66% on 5 February and 71% on 14 February.[13][14] Like the other two, Mabby also dropped the level.

The most notable race was between two skilled players: Surv and Quasar. On 8 February 2016, Quasar released his first progress video, showing progress of 42-79%.[15] A week later, on 16 February 2016, he made further progress, completing the second half of Bloodbath.[16] Quasar made his first substantial progress on the level, reaching 39% ten days later and halfway through the level a day after.[17][18] Quasar would immediately catch a flu after his 61% progress, thus taking a break from his progress.[11][19]

Surv started making progress on Bloodbath after beating Cataclysm. He would eventually crash at 96% on 6 March 2016, making it his worst fail in the game and the closest he had come to beating the level.[11] After recovering, Quasar started to make more progress, reaching 77% on 9 March 2016.[20] Finally, on 14 March 2016, seven months after the level's release, Quasar became the first victor of Bloodbath after a fail at 90% and over 28,000+ attempts.[21]

Legacy

Bloodbath remains one of the most popular Extreme Demon levels in Geometry Dash, if not the most popular. It is currently the most downloaded and liked Extreme Demon in-game. The level remained unbeaten for seven months until Quasar beat it on 14 March 2016.[21]

The verification of Bloodbath and its subsequent lengthy tenure as the hardest level established the community standard of scrutinising the verification of difficult levels. While two other levels, Theory of Darkness and unnerfed Phobos, temporarily managed to dethrone Bloodbath, both levels were ultimately unrated due to their hacked verifications.[22]

Bloodbath was also the first Top 1 Demon level to remain in the top spot for over a year, officially dethroned by Sakupen Hell on 14 August 2016.[23] With the placement of SINGULARITY on the Demonlist, Bloodbath fell out of the Top 50 hardest Demons.

Description

Bloodbath depicts a red-and-black 'hell' theme, featuring critical speed changes, tight spaces, and precise timing, culminating in a relentless series of complex gameplay sequences. Those sequences feature many legacy segments.

  • 0-10% (weoweoteo): Bloodbath begins with a ship sequence continuing from Cataclysm, transitioning into a red-and-black colour scheme with a face resembling his icon above. The sequence progresses through a half-speed portal, a double-speed cube and a triple-speed ship with flashing colours, gravity changes and a tight 1.5-block flying space, followed by a triple-speed mini-ball synced to the beat.
  • 10-25% (Vermillion): Next is a triple-speed ship sequence with frequent gravity changes, ending with a ramp leading to his signature. A half-speed ball sequence follows, requiring precise jumps synced to the song's notes, with platforms featuring red bricks, black blocks and extra spikes. A mirrored sequence flips the screen mid-gameplay, leading into a crescendo of gravity portals.
  • 25-33% (Michigun): This part is in dark red and slows the pace and shifts to a grey colour scheme, featuring a normal-speed cube sequence with triple spikes, gravity changes and a background of flickering torches, chains and thorns. A one-block-wide ship sequence, a narrow ball sequence with alternating gravity, a tight UFO sequence and another triple-spike cube sequence lead into a concluding narrow wave sequence with flashing red 'MICHIGUN' text.
  • 33-42% (Evasium): Next is a brief dual-cube sequence before transitioning into a half-speed ship sequence with wave-like movements through spiked obstacles.
  • 42-54% (Crack): The music now shifts the key to D minor, and the level transitions into a blood-red background.
  • 54-71% (ASonicMen): This part features a triple-speed mini-UFO sequence with tight manoeuvres through small gaps, rapid size and gravity changes, and a background of flashing clouds and pulsing circles. A brief half-speed moment interrupts the intensity before resuming triple speed, leading into a memory-based mini-ball sequence and a rapid spam sequence with nine blue orbs. The 'ASONIC' text appears before entering an auto cube transition sequence, followed by another brief speed change.
  • 71-80% (Etzer): Next is a triple-speed normal-sized UFO sequence with a more artistic, glow-heavy style, leading to a landing on his name that triggers gravity portals and orbs. A normal-speed ship sequence follows, requiring navigation through a deceptive gravity portal and a two-block-wide path before a brief triple-speed UFO sequence transitions into an awkward low-flying ship sequence inside a darkened tunnel, known for a meme about failing at 79%.
  • 80-88% (Havok): This part features a ball sequence similar to Vermillion's part, featuring orbs placed inside and outside blocks, along with tricky timing and invisible platforms.
  • 88-93% (Giron): This part has Giron's signature 'G' appearing before transitioning to a triple-speed upside-down ship sequence with orbs dictating movement and tight 1.5-block flying spaces. A long, normal-sized straight-fly tests consistency before transitioning into a half-speed dual-cube sequence requiring precise jumps and orb activations, concluding with a brief non-dual auto sequence leading into the final stretch.
  • 93-98% (Ggb0y): This part features a half-speed ball sequence similar to Cataclysm, with red block platforms, chains and the words 'your blood' fading into view. A precisely timed blue orb leads into a brief UFO sequence, followed by a short upside-down straight-fly that poses a high risk of late-game failure. The final ball sequence contains numerous fake blocks, with 'GBOY' appearing at the top of the screen as the part concludes.
  • 98-100% (Riot): The final part of the level features a normal-speed semi-auto cube sequence that ends the level, displaying 'GG' above the cube and 'RIOT' below.

Trivia

General

  • Even though Bloodbath is 1 minute and 52 seconds long, in Update 1.9, it is XL when the duration is measured with the grid length of the level. It is now fixed, and the server now showcases it as Long.
  • Bloodbath was ranked #4 in Geometry Dash Today's list of 'The Top 100 Greatest Geometry Dash Levels Of All Time'.
  • There is a level called AfterCataBath, initially created by Zimnyte, combining Cataclysm, Bloodbath and aftermath into a single level. A buffed remake of AfterCataBath, titled Apocalyptic Trilogy, is a super-buffed, redecorated version.
  • Riot originally stated that he would re-beat Bloodbath for his 400th Demon. However, this idea was later dismissed as he completed Spacelocked instead.[33]
  • Bloodbath, Quantum Processing and Red World Rebirth are Riot's only rated levels.
  • There is an Easter egg at the end of Bloodbath at Ggb0y's part, where the player can position themselves to land on top of the 'GG' in Riot's part. If they succeed, the word 'Michigun' will appear.
  • Sunix uploaded a buffed version of Bloodbath named Deambath. It includes a few extra spikes, and the ball parts in ASonicMen's and Vermillion's parts feature different gameplay.
    • Deam was Sunix's old username.
    • Similarly, he verified and uploaded 'Invisibath', which is essentially Bloodbath, except that everything is set to 10% opacity.
  • Bloodbath has spawned many remakes. For some reason, nearly all of them still have the creators' names.
    • Primarily, all the remakes are nerfed, except for Deambath and Bloodlust, which are buffed. Invisibath retains the original difficulty, however.
    • All of Sunix's other remakes are unnerfed. These include Bloodbath in different shades of colour and an unnerfed 'Sh**ty' Bloodbath. He also planned to host a mega-collaboration for an actual unnerfed Bloodbath remake.
  • In early November 2016, Bloodbath was hacked by a player named xX0T1Xx, also known as Anaban. He set a start position at the end (~80%) and included text explaining that he was leaving Geometry Dash. Since it was a start position, beating it did not reward the player with stars.[34] Luckily, this has been fixed.
    • Interestingly, nearly a decade after hacking Bloodbath, xX0T1Xx managed to beat Bloodbath on 21 September 2026.[35]
  • Riot has worked on a heavily buffed version of Bloodbath called Buffbath. Many of the ship gaps are notably much tighter than before. He originally intended this to be an update to Bloodbath, but after receiving criticism, he decided to make Buffbath a separate level with a secret way. The level is called 'blood bathtub hard v' and is on Riot's account under the ID 31288058.[36]
    • AGSEcho verified Buffbath on 2 August 2024.[37]
    • There is a redecorated version of Buffbath named Riots Demise.
  • Bloodbath was made the Weekly Demon on 1 April 2019. It was done as an April Fools' joke.
  • Bloodbath is #62 on the Low Refresh Rate Demonlist, above Dark Flare and below Carnage Mode.
    • It is also #40 on the Mobile Demonlist, above Celestial Force and below Ethereal Artifice.
  • Riot re-beat and updated Bloodbath in Update 2.11 to fix a 240Hz bug at 34% that would cause the player to crash into a spike when they hit the pink pads.
  • It is possible to crash into the invisible blocks at 87%, npesta being the most notable player to die there.
  • Bloodbath is the most-downloaded level, with over 150 million downloads and is the sixth-most liked level overall, with 5.3 million likes as of 10 April 2026.
    • Bloodbath became the most downloaded Demon level in the game on 1 March 2026, surpassing The Nightmare.
      • Bloodbath became the most downloaded level in the entire game on 10 April 2026, surpassing OuterSpace.
  • Famous and viral streamer IShowSpeed played through an auto version of Bloodbath.
    • Many of IShowSpeed's fans think Speed found a 'glitch' in Bloodbath, so they later made a video clip of Speed 'finding a glitch' to beat Bloodbath, roleplaying that Bloodbath's glitch was discovered, although it was proven to be a myth.
  • In the level The Devourer, if the player misses a pink orb at 7%, it brings them to weoweoteo's part in Bloodbath.
  • When Riot passes through the first dual part in the verification video, his saying 'swag' can be heard when entering Evasium's part. Many have misheard it as 'quack'. Over time, it has become a common tradition to say either 'quack' or 'swag' during that segment while playing the level.
  • A remake of Bloodbath, Legacy, was built by CairoX that includes an unofficial extension.
  • The song used for Bloodbath was temporarily removed due to Dimrain47's Newgrounds account being hacked.
  • The name of the achievement for clearing 300 Demon levels in Normal Mode is called 'What a bloodbath'.

Demonlist

  • Upon the creation of the modern Demonlist on Pointercrate on 4 January 2017, Bloodbath was placed at #3, above Infernal Abyss and below Sakupen Hell.
  • Bloodbath is regarded as the 21st instance of the hardest rated level in the game's history.
    • Bloodbath is one of the levels to stand the longest on the list before getting pushed into the Legacy List, sitting at 1,997 days.
      • Bloodlust has since surpassed this length, as it has stood for over 2,600 days before being pushed to the Legacy List.
    • This placement makes Bloodbath the final level in the classic 'Apocalyptic Trilogy' (or the Hell Trilogy) to be pushed into the Legacy List.
    • This placement makes Bloodbath the last level released in Update 1.9 to be pushed into the Legacy List.
    • The same day Bloodbath fell into the Legacy List, the Demonlist website and the Geometry Dash servers coincidentally crashed.
  • Bloodbath took Riot over 25,000 attempts to verify. Michigun and RobTop himself encouraged Riot to keep trying.
  • People argued for a while that Sakupen Hell was harder than Bloodbath.
  • Some players were revealed to have beaten Bloodbath illegitimately.
    • ThePrimeEvil had claimed to beat Bloodbath but was later exposed for using hacks.
    • TheRealSneaky claimed to beat Bloodbath on 75Hz but later admitted to hacking it.
    • TacoMacho hacked Bloodbath four times but was exposed by nikrodox for accidentally streaming and speed-hacking.
    • Aurorus hacked Bloodbath, but it was considered legitimate for a long time. Eventually, some allegations suggest that all his records were hacked, and now, he is listed among the community's hackers.
  • On 2 July 2020, Bloodbath lost its distinction of being the level that remained the longest in the Top 50 on the Demonlist (having remained for 1,315 days) to Sonic Wave.
  • Bloodbath was once the level that took the longest time to have any victors, taking seven months before Quasar became its first victor. It was surpassed by Avernus on 6 January 2024, which took nine months to be beaten by its first victor.
    • Based After Based is the level that took the longest time after its verification to receive a victor, taking over 560 days.
  • Bloodbath is the level with the highest number of completions while it was on the Demonlist, standing at 1,294 victors.
  • Bloodbath is the level with the third-highest number of completions on the All Rated Extreme Demons List (AREDL), standing at over 8,300 victors.
    • Bloodbath is the level with the second-highest number of completions on the Global Demonlist, amassing over 4,350 victors.
      • Due to a large portion of completions never being submitted to either of the Demonlists, Bloodbath has significantly more victors than the combined amount of Pointercrate, AREDL, and Global Demonlist, with estimates ranging between 10,000 and 15,000.
  • The placement of Alpha Baa X on 29 January 2021 pushed Bloodbath into the Legacy List of the Demonlist.[38]
    • Bloodbath amassed 1,294 total victors during its lifespan on the Demonlist, making it the first level in the history of Pointercrate to reach a milestone of 1,000 victors, alongside Sonic Wave (1,048), Cognition (1,232), Bloodlust (1,068), and Zodiac (1,020).

Errors

  • There are multiple layering issues, including an upper spike in the ball sequence at 28%.
  • The top-right corner block of the first structure in the UFO sequence at 55% is lower than intended.
  • There is an error in the auto cube sequence at 68% with an incorrectly placed invisible slope to assist the transition.
  • There is a visual error in Etzer's ship sequence at 74% with a missing slope block to cover a sawblade.
