Visible Ray is a 2.0/2.1 Extreme Demon mega-collaboration level hosted by KrampuX, verified by Seturan on 15 August 2018.[1] It is a collaboration of solely Korean participants, and the level does not follow a set decoration theme; theming changes between each part.
History
[edit | edit source]Visible Ray has a long history. According to some reports, its creation dates back to 2016 in Update 2.0, but it was completed in the summer of 2017.
Seturan proceeded to verify it. On 16 September 2017, the run of 61-94% was uploaded on Seturan's YouTube channel.[2] However, he did not make any new progress runs for a long time. During that time, Seturan beat Digital Descent and became the first player in Korea to do so.[3] On 19 November, he uploaded a video with a progress run of 33%,[4] and on 31 December, he got a new record of 44%. In the video description, he stated that he had considered nerfing the level, but he will never pass it on to another person.[5]
On 11 February 2018, Seturan uploaded a video showcasing the final version of Visible Ray. In the video description, he predicted it would be as difficult as Gamma.[6] After a long period of inactivity on 8 June, he achieved an incredible 61%.[7] Over a month later, on 13 July, he got a new best of 86%.[8]
Two days later, on 15 July, Seturan achieved a devastating 92% by crashing into the last spikes, which prompted a violent reaction.[9] However, one month later, on 15 August, he nerfed the mini-wave spam by making it a normal-size wave and removed the last triple-spike, after which he verified Visible Ray after 32,731 attempts.[1]
Description
[edit | edit source]- 0-5% (KrampuX + Mayb3e): Visible Ray begins with several parts of a cube and a ball, interrupted several times by a wave and a UFO. It aims to confuse the player through gameplay that features eternal narrowness and hellish timings. In general, both parts can be called decorated in the old WOOGI style.
- 5-12% (Non4med): This part has decorations with more saturation, all in black and surrounded by many shining multi-coloured sparks. The wave and the UFO mostly alternate but in the usual size. However, the nightmarish, narrow passages with constant changes in gravity complicate the passage. The screen closes with a title card, and many different coloured rays begin to 'dance'.
- 12-14% (Vismuth): Next is a colourful part with rainbow neon rays, pulsating circles in the background, and special moving blocks exclusively from Update 2.0—in fact, neither earlier nor later. As for the gameplay, the robot dominates with constant jump calculations.
- 14-17% (DemN): This part has a basic design. It reuses 2.0 blocks and nothing more. There is a chain of stages: a robot, a ship, a ball, and sometimes a UFO. They are in a completely locked-up confined space. There are a lot of moving blocks.
- 17-21% (Cyrpediem): The music starts to accelerate, and the player goes through an incredibly complex wave stage with screen reversals and a change in gravity. In the background, a blob of neon rays changes colour.
- 21-26% (ThorMode): The gameplay has become much faster in time with the soundtrack. So it flies through several parts of the cube, the waves and the UFO with the ship, and everywhere it is necessary to observe timing and click extremely often. The decoration is still old, but it looks good: the first bright notes appear.
- 26-30% (Dister K): The player becomes a ball and later goes into a dual. Part tangled, there are a lot of fake blocks. By the end, the screen will start rotating actively, and the character will be a dual-UFO and a ship. Splits are not too complicated because they do not last long. The decoration is poor and quite old; The colour scheme consists of dark green shades.
- 30-35% (Hobbyboat + Xerabii): There are short stages of the ship, waves, sometimes a cube or UFO, as well as a ball or a robot. The gameplay is not unique, and the narrow spaces and size changes are complex. The design has become better at times. Everywhere, there is a beautiful multi-coloured neon gloss with pulsating objects.
- 35-38% (1234): Split a ball, then a cube and then a single cube. Both bifurcations are short-lived but are rather locked up. Everything is in shades of grey, and beauty does not shine.
- 38-43% (Dark Boshy): Next is a dual again; this time, a cube and later a robot. The size does not change, but the gameplay is confusing. The scenery is basic, red and black. Next is one of the best parts. The player plays with a mixture of a robot and a spider, and after one spider, everything finally makes us happy. It is from Update 2.1, namely, just the spider mode and the abundance of arrow spheres. Of course, the player needs to be extremely attentive because there are tons of thorns and timings on the spheres. The gap between them is not the best moment in the colourful modern style. The background is grey, and there is a rainbow circle with the name of the demon and a colourful border around the edges.
- 43-47% (Spica): This part is a series of stages where everything meets once: a wave, a robot, a ball, a ship; besides the missing UFO with a spider and a cube that the player has already played two times. Again, boring gameplay and basic decoration.
- 47-51% (Ekko IV): Multiple parts, similar to each other by frequent size changes and eternal enclosed spaces simultaneously with timings. It is proposed to pass a couple of parts of the robot, the waves, and the cube, and once a ship with a ball. The speed is not so high. The design has improved again: the similarity to LazerBlitz came along, but everything is already black, and there are many brighter, multi-coloured lines against the black background.
- 51-54% (Mulpan): Mulpan's part consists of only two stages: the ship and the UFO, and the aisles are not so narrow, although there are decreasing portals. Everything is grey, and in the background is a Chinese character that means 'ray' or 'light'.
- 54-63% (Renovatio + Sousland + KeiAs): A new series of change of game-modes. At first, a robot and a ship are often encountered, and sometimes a part of a wave or a cube follows between them. The gameplay has not changed much; the only difference is that the mini-wave is now less common, though it still occurs in a dual-wave. By the end of this group, the spider will also become more frequent, where timings and narrow passages will be difficult at the same time. The speed is huge, so the player has to click very often. Fortunately, the parts have been decorated in a modern style: the first one again returns the same iridescent gloss, and in the last two, the style becomes very unusual, recalling LazerBlitz and neon, with very bright colours.
- 63-73% (Senousia): Arguably considered one of the best parts of the Visible Ray. It is executed unsurpassably, and the original-core style is simply flawless here. Adopting a 'digital' view gives a certain computer theme. Colours change from purple to green, then to yellow and brown. Good as a block design and design even are thorns. The gameplay consists of several stages, divided into two groups: the robot and the ship in the usual size go to the first, and the spider with the UFO in a reduced state goes to the second.
- 73-78% (MoonlightEVE): A short split where the cube and the spider are mixed. There are a lot of jump orbs and timings, so it is easy to get confused.
- 78-82% (Hanavi + Ticky): The ship, UFO and cube are alternating. Everywhere there is a change of gravity, it is especially difficult on a UFO, and in the ship sequence, more and more passes will be one block wide. The decoration is good because there is a beautiful pulsating space art in the background.
- 82-88% (LioLeo): This part involves the same game-modes, but the main will already be a cube. There are a lot of timings, mainly on the spheres, actually inside the blocks. The main feature of the gameplay is that the player moves through narrow tunnels up and down, then right in a narrow space. The effects that contrast with the empty block design stand out: the background consists of so-called 'puzzles', and the spheres become unusual with changes in the 'look' of the portals. Everything speaks of modern style.
- 88-100% (Dominator): The last three stages: a cube, a wave and a robot. The gameplay is the same: the cube and robot still have timings, a wave with hellish, quick inputs. In this part, the player will finally see something familiar—2.1 basic styles in blue tones in front of them. It then shows the message 'Well done', and the level ends.

[edit | edit source]Trivia
[edit | edit source]- Visible Ray was rated on 18 May 2019 and placed at #4 on the Demonlist on 29 May 2019, above Plasma Pulse Finale and below Bloodlust.
- This addition pushed Yatagarasu out of the Top 10, Athanatos into the Extended List (out of the Top 50), and Heartbeat into the Legacy List.
- Some participants, such as Dominator, KrampuX, KeiAs, and Mulpan, also participated in two other South Korean mega-collaborations, Dark Flare and Fabrication.
- KrampuX built two parts.
- It is judged from the inscriptions on the parts DemN 'DemN + Kram'. The last nickname is presumably an abbreviation of the organiser's nickname, and he assisted DemN in constructing the level.
- In addition, there are some inconsistencies with the level in the list of builders. There is a part made by Ticky between Hanavi and LioLeo's parts, though there is a nickname at the end.
- It is somewhat strange that the part after Dark Boshy does not specify the author—perhaps this is a continuation of the previous part just mentioned or the beginning of the next part (from Spica).
- Non4med, one of the creators, considers Visible Ray a sequel to Ultraviolet.
- It is rather strange that he considers it a sequel, not a remake, since Ultraviolet was built by a different team. Additionally, Gammaray is the official sequel to Ultraviolet.
- Many of the inscriptions in Visible Ray, which are present in large numbers, can often be confused with the authors' nicknames, especially at the end, when the message 'Almost Done' closes the entire screen, which is more typical for a player's nickname.
- While verifying, Seturan nerfed the end of Visible Ray by making the mini-wave segment made by Dominator a normal wave and also removed the last triple-spike.
- Visible Ray was Technical's 500th Demon and 100th Extreme Demon.
- On 4 March 2025, Yumira verified the unnerfed version of Visible Ray.[10]
- The movement of Gustavo Fring on 24 August 2024 pushed Visible Ray into the Legacy List.
