Geometry Dash Moderators are a class of players implemented in Update 2.0 who are selected by Robert Topala to hold special responsibilities above other members within the community. As of Update 2.11, they can easily be distinguished from regular users by badges appearing next to the user's name on both their profile page and comments, with the exception of Leaderboard Moderators whose badge only show on their user profile.

The main role of a moderator is to send levels and suggested difficulties to RobTop who may then proceed to rate the level. Moderators can also suggest the Demon difficulty of certain levels, and although these suggestions are not always accurate to the final rating, they hold higher priority over regular users. Comments left by moderators appear in lighter green text (hex code: <code>#c8ffc8</code>). This was added due to a server-side update that occurred on September 17, 2020. Before this, regular moderators had white text.

There is also a small group of Elder Moderators, including RobTop himself, that hold additional special responsibilities and have more power over regular moderators. In addition to sending levels to RobTop, elder moderators can delete comments on levels, give users temporary bans from commenting, remove non-featured user levels from the server, and whitelist music artists. Comments left by elder moderators appear in darker green text (hex code: <code>#4bff4b</code>), as opposed to regular moderators.

Lastly, there are Leaderboard Moderators, who were first assigned during Update 2.11 and officially added in Update 2.2. These players moderate all sorts of leaderboards, this includes: Top 100, Global Leaderboard and level-specific Leaderboards.
The profile page settings, accessible by tapping the gear icon, include options that allow the player to choose who is able to send messages (anyone, friends or none) and friend requests (all or none) to them. The player can also toggle whether or not other players can view their comment history. YouTube, Twitter, Twitch, Instagram and TikTok accounts can be linked to a profile page (including the Discord username).

All promotions and demotions are performed solely by Robert Topala, and such incorporate his views and opinions. The full (and unofficial) list of current moderators, elder moderators, and former moderators can be viewed here.
There is an approximate one-day delay before players can view the statistics of a newly created user account.

In some cases, Robert Topala may choose to disable certain accounts, which permanently disables the ability to log into the accounts on the same IP address. Instead of successfully logging into the account when entering the correct password, it will display a message telling the user to contact RobTop Support for more information. The message has not changed since its initial inclusion.

User Accounts are a feature present in all Geometry Dash games with limited functionality in Geometry Dash Lite, Geometry Dash Meltdown, and Geometry Dash SubZero. User accounts were officially introduced in Update 1.9, giving the player the ability to save and transfer data between devices. The account system would be improved later in Update 2.0.

Description

[edit | edit source]

A profile page showcases a logged-in player's current icons, displaying their current cube, ship (or jetpack if selected), ball, UFO, wave, robot, spider, swing. In addition, profile pages also showcase a player's global Leaderboards rank and respective alongside some collectibles, including:

  • Stars
  • Moons
  • Secret Coins
  • User Coins
  • Demon levels count
  • Creator points (if any)

On the profile page, players can send and receive private messages from one user to another, send and respond to friend requests, and block other users from viewing their profile or sending friend requests. Players can leave personal messages for others to read and can also like or dislike them. Players can also view all comments made by a specific user, sorted by either recency or number of likes. When viewing a different player's profile page, there are options to follow them, view the player's created levels, or view their created lists.

There is an approximate one-day delay before players can view the statistics of a newly created user account.

Disabled accounts

[edit | edit source]

In some cases, the developer may choose to disable certain accounts, which permanently disables the ability to log into the accounts on the same IP address. Instead of successfully logging into the account when entering the correct password, a message will be displayed, instructing the user to contact RobTop Support for more information. The message remains unchanged since its initial inclusion.

Account settings

[edit | edit source]

Account settings can be accessed from the main menu. Locate the settings menu and select the "Accounts" button. A player that is logged in can then save and load data from the cloud; the "More" button allows the player to refresh their login, change their username and password (from the "Manage account" button), or unlink (log out and delete all save data) their account.

Saving data

[edit | edit source]

Once a player is logged into their account, they can select the "Save" button in order to back up their data to the cloud (with a minimum of 10 stars required). Because save data is stored in the cloud rather than the device, it can be accessed at any time, even if the user previously unlinked their account from the device.

Save data includes collectables, created levels, and the user's unlocked icons, but does not include the specific icon set or colours chosen. Save data also does not include downloaded songs, meaning the user must redownload songs when restoring data.

Transferring data

[edit | edit source]

When the save data is backed up to the cloud, it can be accessed from any device. To transfer data to a different device, a player must log in to their account on the new device. From the account settings, the player can then select "Load" to restore their save data to the new device, which should load the player's unlocked icons, other collectables, and created levels.

Saving data from a different device than the original save data will merge the two backups together in the cloud.

Trivia

[edit | edit source]
  • On a user's profile page, icons can only be updated if the user refreshes their profile page.
  • As of July 12, 2019, due to a PHP upgrade, profile pages are not displayed correctly if an outdated version of Geometry Dash is used (such as 2.0).
  • In Update 1.9, saving data to the cloud would overwrite the current save. This was changed in Update 2.0 so that the new and old saves are merged together.
  • In Update 2.0, there was a feature inside the icon kit that allowed a user to view their user ID, a number which was associated with a specific account that could be searched up. Searching by an account's user ID still works; however, it is harder to find the account's user ID as the message in the icon kit was removed in Update 2.1.
  • A player requires a registered account to comment on user levels as of Update 2.11. Previously, registered and unregistered players alike were able to comment on user levels. This was done to prevent spam.
  • There is a bug that happens if a player sends a friend request to another player and then restarts the game. The friend request is sent, but the button changes back to before the request was sent.
  • RobTop can change any player's username. This is usually done to inactive accounts to allow well-known players to get their desired username.
  • In the Geometry Dash 10-Year Anniversary video, it is stated that there are 17,107,125 user accounts.
  • Previously, you could use an unregistered account to do pretty much everything.
  • Prior to 2.201, diamonds were shown, but were since removed due to the fact that it was useless to view diamonds as it is not viewed as a skill point.
    • It is still possible to view diamonds by clicking the info button next to a player's username.
