Next, the player enters a moderately difficult ball segment with trickier timings, followed by a mini-ship sequence with an awkward transition and a flying section due to gravity portals. The transition to the relatively simple cube is also quite irritating because it can fail if the player flies too high, and it could be considered a bug. The next cube is reasonably straightforward, although the triple spike jump may get the player a few times, followed by a moderately difficult mini-UFO with tricky timing. Next is a simple mini-wave, but then a harder normal wave with fairly tight spaces. Then the player enters a double-speed cube section with tricky timings, followed by probably the hardest and most irritating part of the level: a ship sequence with lots of straight-flying, gravity and size changes in peculiar spots, and tricky orbs. Afterwards comes another fairly tight wave segment, then a UFO segment with even trickier timing, along with gravity portals. The UFO then shrinks and travels at half-speed as the music slows, with WOOGI1411's name at the top. Windy Landscape is a 1.9/2.0 Insane Demon level by WOOGI1411, published on 15 February 2015.[1] Soon after its release, WOOGI updated the level and slightly buffed it. Being one of the most famous levels ever created, it received acclaim for its music, gameplay, difficulty and design. Windy Landscape's difficulty primarily comes from excessive decoration, narrow flying segments, and numerous timings. During Update 1.9, it was regarded as a hard Insane Demon or an easy Extreme Demon, though it is now generally considered one of the easiest Insane Demons.
Description
[edit | edit source]Windy Landscape begins with a simple mini-cube section featuring a few timings. The player must tap lightly once to hit a blue orb to avoid crashing into a spike in an otherwise auto segment.
The music then drops and heads into the first dual segment. The dual sequences are in sync and symmetrical. However, the entire dual segment runs at triple speed the whole way through, and the decoration is very bright to try to mess with the player. The first cube segment is easy with only one timed jump, but the ball segment after has very tricky timings that require time to get used to, followed again by a slightly harder cube with more tricky timing, followed by a mini-ball with one click, which must be appropriately timed to avoid a bug that will cause the player to crash. It switches to a mini auto dual cube. A ship segment follows and is also tricky and difficult, with many fakes and gravity portals, a few orbs, and a fair bit of tricky yet straightforward straight-flying. Afterwards is another simple cube with a few timed jumps and a difficult half-speed straight-fly mini-ship sequence.
The level then returns to double-speed with a cube with many tricky timings. It then switches to a difficult ship sequence, with an awkward transition and a weirdly placed gravity portal. It switches to a fairly easy cube with simple timings, then to an odd ship that is more timing-based than actually flying. The dual segment returns at double speed, still symmetrical and in sync. It starts as a cube, then becomes a ball with even trickier timing. The last ship is infamous for failing multiple players and is a straight-fly segment with an irritating gravity portal in the middle. The level then goes to a half-speed cube section with one final jump, with the text saying 'THX'. Then, the level ends with a smiley face, added during Update 2.0 by WOOGI.
Gameplay
[edit | edit source]Trivia
[edit | edit source]- Windy Landscape was ranked #21 in Geometry Dash Today's list of 'The Top 100 Greatest Geometry Dash Levels Of All Time'.[2]
- Windy Landscape was not featured due to WOOGI using a copy of the original song 'Windfall' by TheFatRat, which was not accessible at the time. He later replaced the song when TheFatRat uploaded his songs to Newgrounds. On 9 March 2020, the level was featured.
- The remake 'If WL was L1' is rated and featured.
- Windy Landscape is included in the final section of the level Ultimate Demon Mix.
- The old gameplay of Windy Landscape, before it was buffed, had much easier flying segments, and the timings in the level were overall easier.
- On 4 June 2016, a 2.0 remake called Windy Landscape X was created by AngryBoy and WOOGI.
- A 2.1 Extreme Demon remake called Stormy Landscape, created by XLSpiral and others, was verified by Teno on 4 April 2021. The level remains unrated.
- A heavily inspired level of Windy Landscape called Verdant Landscape was verified by Sandrone on 14 December 2021. It was placed at #11 on the Demonlist on 18 January 2022. Upon release, Verdant Landscape also became the hardest fully solo level.
- Upon the release of Update 2.2, due to new physics, the slope jump at 3% became much more difficult.
- This is also the case in the Windy Landscape section of Ultimate Demon Mix.
- On 3 February 2024, this issue was fixed, and the jump is now passable by not clicking, thanks to an invisible extension of the slope.
- A future update released on 20 November 2025 removed the invisible extension and made the slope jump required again instead of automatic; however, instead of being frame-perfect, it is roughly as precise as the original jump before Update 2.2.
