MINUSdry is a 2.1 Extreme Demon collaboration level created and published by CDMusic, co-created with Sevant and verified by Varium on 18 March 2023. It is based on the old impossible level that CDMusic created, Silent Dry, with its gameplay heavily nerfed and re-balanced. The level's gameplay and decoration is similar to, and was inspired by Tartarus, featuring a lot of decoration elements from the update 1.9. MINUSdry primarily uses a pink and blue colour scheme, changing often throughout the level.

History

The first mention of the level dates back to 10 September 2022, when CDMusic, uploaded a a full showcase of the fully completed level, mentioning that it is set to place within the Mainlist of the Demonlist The level has been in the works for a very long time, presumably years as CDMusic stated. It was originally set to be verified by Declan. He was making some good progress on the level, but eventually dropped out due to demotivation. Luckily, the new version of the level was finished thanks to the assistance of Sevant, who was being very supportive to CDMusic.

Varium buffed and balanced the level to make it an 'alternative to Tartarus and Hard Machine', which MINUSdry was inspired by. The level was crafted with a specific focus on taking inspiration from old impossible levels. MINUSdry was initially intended to place somewhere on the Main List of the Demonlist, but ended up being buffed to the difficulty of a Top 10 level at the time. The level received decoration touch-ups from Sevant, Blankb and Varium. To reach 45,000 objects, various filler objects from the editor were added, above and below the level.

On 1 July, Sevant showcased MINUSdry on his YouTube channel. The showcase was actually his completion of the level, which be beat after ~4,300 attempts, which is still impressive despite him being one of its creators.

Verification

On 27 September 2022, Varium uploaded his first verification progress on the level, achieving a run of 39-90%, adding that the level might place within the Top 25 of the Demonlist. On 30 September, he published his 50% record and a 39-98% run. On 8 October, he got a new record of 56% and 28-71%. He also changed his mind about MINUSdry's difficulty, saying that it might be Top 10 worthy. Shortly after that, he got 59% and 39-100%, but uploaded the footage on the day he verified the level. On 20 October, he got a new best run of 28-100%, and improved his record to 65%. During that time MINUSdry would get a decoration update. After that last video, Varium didn't upload any new verification progress, stating that he was feeling completely burned-out, and that he didn't want to play anymore, but, he said, he knew he had to verify the level or he will have regrets for giving up.

On 1 December, Varium got a new 69% best, five days later, 72%, and in the next two days, 79%. Varium wouldn't get any notable progress after his last progress summary. On 25 January, he finally reached past 79% and crashed at 86% in the level. On 2 February, he did a 9-100% run, and 13 days later, he would die at 93%. After this, Varium was again unable to reach past his new 93% record, saying that his muscle memory has been worsening. However, on 17 March, Varium got to 96% in the level, the furthest record achieved before he verified it. Another day, however, he verified MINUSdry. It took him 97,162 attempts and 22 crashes after 75% to do it.

  • Additionally, he stated that the level is around top 60 in difficulty.

Gameplay

• 0-13%: The level begins with a difficult cube timing, with regular jumps and precise orb clicks. There is a sequence of multiple different orbs, which the player must memorize in order to click the correct ones. After the cube comes the ship, which has to maneouver the descending straight-fly, and then do precise flying as the mini-ship. Following this is another cube with less frequent click necessity.
• 13-34%: This section stars with a ship, challenging both in straight-fly and sharp maneuvers, requiring precise icon control. After the ship, there's another cube, with its main difficult being precise timing. A short section begins, requiring memorization of the correct path, and once that's done, all that the player has to do is press the last orbs, entering the drop.
• 34-50%: The first half of the drop consists of four equal-length segments: A swift ship with mostly challenging straight-fly, UFO with precise clicks and ceiling-spam, and a fast cube, where the timings are manageable, but are tougher due to difficult spike jumps. This section ends with a difficult swing-copter ball, requiring good control and precise click between the narrow places.
• 50-66%: The second part of the drop begins with a long and previse ball section, followed by a brief cube with several clicks which then turns into ship that has to go through difficult straight-fly, changing sizes. This part ends the player turning into a UFO with unusual and challenging gameplay.
• 66-82%: This section is filled to the brim with timings, and consists of two segments: a cube with hard timing and difficult spike jumping, and the ship with frequently changing speeds, size and gravity, accompanied by straight-fly and complex maneuvers.
• 82-100%: The final section features a slow cube with complex timings. The level slows down, and a memory section comes, which is mixed with timings. The final click is a jump over the disappearing, spread-out triple spikes.

Trivia

• The level was initially placed at #9 on the Demonlist on 23 April 2023, above LIMBO and below Firework.
  • This addition pushed The Yandere into the Extended List and Chromatic Haze into the Legacy List.
• Throught the level, player can find messages referencing the its name: 'dont get wet..', 'you are dry.. we are wet..', 'moisture is inevitable', 'you dry? no way' and 'Good job, you drew her drinking water!'
• There is an Easter egg where the word 'Fred' appears for a split second over a Clubstep monster.
• The level's description reads: 'To be dry, or not to be dry? That is a question'
  • It is a reference to a phrase from the play Hamlet.
• Varium, the verifier of the level, has said that it is twice as hard as Tartarus and Hard Machine, pointing out it took him twice as many attempts to beat it.
• Silent Dry has 30,000 objects. CDMusic stated he built the level in 1.6 style with slight touches of 2.1. He uploaded the showcase of the level on 29 May 2021.
  • The level is impossible, and as the creator stated: '[it] is estimated to place around 80-90 on the Impossible Levels List'.
    • The level is currently in the Top 300 of the Impossible Levels List.
• MINUSdry has changed its position four times since its initial placement on the Demonlist.
  • Codependence's placement on 15 August 2023 pushed MINUSdry out of the Top 10. However, movement of Codependence on 24 January 2024 pushed MINUSdry back into the Top 10.
    • The placement of Tidal Wave on 18 February 2024 pushed MINUSdry out of the Top 10 for the second time.
      • The placement of Every End on 20 April 2025 pushed MINUSdry out of the Top 25.
