Portals are special Map Components in Geometry Dash. They modify the way the cube interacts with the level, and can even change the cube into a different form.
They change the square into a rocket, ball, UFO, change the square's size, gravity, and (as of 1.7.0) speed or even mirror the gameplay or (as of 1.8.0) create a copy of the player.
Types of portals
Manipulation Portals
The following portals change the way the player interacts with the level:
- Gravity portal: There are two thin-ringed variants; yellow changes the gravity to up, and blue changes the gravity to down. They are first formally encountered in Dry Out.
- Mirror portal: There are two multi-ringed variants; orange flips the screen to travel left, and blue flips the screen to travel right. They are first encountered in Time Machine
- Size portal: There are two speckly variants; pink shrinks the player, and green enlarges the player. This reduces the jumping height of the cube and UFO, although the ship and ball still accelerate at the same speed. The player cannot be enlarged beyond normal size or shrunk more than once. They are first encountered in Clutterfunk.
- Speed portal: There are four arrow variants; the single blue enables normal speed, the double green enables fast speed, the triple purple enables very fast speed, and the backward orange enables slow speed. They are first encountered in Electrodynamix.
- Copy portal: There are two variants; orange produces a copy with reversed gravity and opposite colours which travels alongside the existing form, and blue deletes the copy. Each form can interact with the level independently. Dying with either form will terminate the remaining one. They are first encountered in Hexagon Force.
Form Portals
The following portals change the form of the player:
- Ship portal: The thick portal changes the player into a ship. It is first encountered in Stereo Madness.
- Ball portal: The thick red portal red changes the player into a ball. It is first encountered in Cycles.
- UFO portal: The thick orange portal changes the player into a UFO. It is first encountered in Theory of Everything.
- Revert/cube portal: The thick green portal changes the player into a cube. It is first encountered in Stereo Madness.
