Deception Dive is a 2.1 Extreme Demon mega-collaboration level by Rustam, verified by Berke423. It is considered an easy Extreme Demon since the first few parts are easier than most other Extreme Demon levels. The level is infamous for being second-half-heavy.
Description
- 0-5% (Rustam): Deception Dive begins with a half-speed cube section featuring tricky green orb timing. The player turns into a ship; they must perform a brief straight-fly and hit a black orb. They then become a ball that is not too hard. Rustam's part ends with a robot section that requires tricky timing, right up until the player turns back into a cube.
- 5-11% (Zober): The level speeds up to normal speed. This part alone is the easiest part of the level, as it involves simple orb memorisation: the player should not hit the orbs marked with an 'X'. It ends with both a triple spike and a single spike.
- 11-18% (ZenthicAlpha): The player becomes a mini-cube and goes through two transitions, a normal-sized wave, and a mini-UFO. They then turn into a mini-robot and must mostly hit green orbs. Then, they transform into a ship, requiring easy straight-flying as fireballs circle and follow them. The player then becomes a mini-ball and a mini-cube.
- 18-25% (AmorAltra): After that part, the level picks up to a double speed ship requiring straight-flying. The ship also becomes mini shortly. The player then becomes a mini-spider with simple spider gameplay. After the mini-spider becomes normal size and hits a dash orb, the player transforms into a UFO with Flappy Bird-like gameplay but switches gravity. The part ends with a cube where the player must hit trigger orbs as smiley faces bounce in the air.
- 25-31% (Platnuu): The level becomes more difficult when this part starts with a half-speed mini-ship sequence that requires very tight straight-flying. It then transitions into a mini-wave and ends with a short mini-ship.
- 31-38% (Sharks): The player now turns into a cube with simple orb timings. It then transitions from a ship that switches gravity to a spider with fixed hitboxes, then back to a ship that requires straight-flying and switches gravity. The part ends with a short auto part ball with flying text that reads 'READY?'
- 38-48% (Berke423): This part starts with a triple-speed wave that switches gravity. The player becomes a cube that begins with an auto part, then a part where the player has to hit many orbs. The part ends with a ship that requires straight-flying while switching gravity and changing size.
- 48-57% (Lucasyecla99): As the speed remains the same, this part starts with a cube where the player must hit orbs. The player then enters a short transition of a wave that becomes mini halfway. After a short mini-cube/UFO and a cube transition, it becomes a ball where the screen scrolls like Viprin's ball part in both. It then turns into a cube that becomes dual shortly in the middle. When the slightly slower ball part is done, the part ends with the cube gradually picking up speed.
- 57-66% (Ryder): The level then becomes Extreme Demon difficulty when this part starts. The player goes through many transitions that sync with the music, including speed and game-mode portals. The part begins from a triple-speed, upside-down ship, to a spider that switches speed and size, to a quadruple-speed cube, to a normal-speed, upside-down ship, to a quadruple-speed cube again, to a normal-speed ship, to a triple-speed mini-cube, to a normal-sized ship mini-spider that becomes triple-speed, to a normal-speed mini-UFO that hits a following pink orb, to a quadruple-speed normal-sized UFO, and finally a normal-speed robot that becomes triple speed.
- 66-76% (Mazl): This part begins a little pitch black as 'MAZL' is in the background. It starts with a fast ball that slows down to a mini, then becomes a mini-cube. Next, it becomes a normal-sized cube dual, which then becomes a mini-cube, still in dual mode. When it ends with the player hitting the edges of a dash orb, a tricky quadruple-speed mini-wave occurs with slightly tight spaces. The player turns into a mini-UFO that goes through crossing sawblades and ends with a dash orb. The player then turns into a very fast mini-cube. The parts end with a fast mini-ball.
- 76-88% (KrampuX): This part is said to be the hardest and is also very buggy. It starts with a quadruple-speed ball that becomes mini halfway through. After the player passes a difficult mini-wave section, they transform into a mini-ship that requires straight-flying while it switches gravity and size. Then it transitions to a very hard mini-robot that contains distractions, flowing objects, and flying text that reads 'YO!' The player is now a mini-UFO, and purplish lava closes in, creating a tunnel that switches gravity. When the lava is off-screen, it turns into a cube with fast timing. The part then ends with a wave that must be wiggled through a triangular-patterned tunnel before it turns back into a cube.
- 88-100% (Disp): The final part starts with a mini-ball featuring tricky timings until it becomes a mini-spider. Then it transitions from a ball to a spider again, but it is of normal size. The player then turns into a cube that becomes a robot, then a mini-cube shortly after. Then the level ends with the cube going through a short auto part, and the level title appears along with the contributors' names.
Gameplay
Trivia
- Deception Dive was placed at #37 on the Demonlist on 3 July 2017, above Heartbeat and below Allegiance.
- This addition pushed AcropoliX into the Legacy List.
- Deception Dive was originally an Insane Demon; however, due to its XL length, difficulty spikes, and high placement on the Demonlist, it was rerated by the community to an Extreme Demon rating.
- It is speculated that Deception Dive was intended to be an Easy Demon, but as more parts were created, Rustam decided to buff the level to be an Extreme Demon. This theory would make sense due to parts like Shark's being incredibly easy (compared to the later parts of the level), aside from seemingly random buffs (things like the cogwheel at 34% in the ship corridor). In contrast, parts like Disp's and KrampuX's are inherently fast-paced and difficult to sight-read.
- The music for Deception Dive was once banned in-game because RobTop did not put it into the official custom song allowlist.
- A common theory suggests that the song was banned because it sounded similar to 'Earthquake' by Teminite.
- The song was later added back.
- SixBeat beat Deception Dive as his second Extreme Demon. Soon after, he published a compilation video featuring him raging at Deception Dive, which contains many screams and direct swearing.
- Deception Dive is considered one of the most hated Extreme Demon levels by the community.
- Deception Dive has a sequel named Disaster Dive.
- Ironically, Disaster Dive's song is 'Earthquake' by Teminite, the song that theoretically got Deception Dive's song temporarily banned in-game due to both songs sounding similar to each other.
- The placement of GridLocked on 28 May 2019 pushed Deception Dive into the Legacy List of the Demonlist.
- Deception Dive returned to the Extended List after the Demonlist increased from Top 100 to Top 150 in June 2019.
- However, the placement of Low Death on 6 April 2020 pushed Deception Dive back into the Legacy List.
- Deception Dive returned to the Extended List after the Demonlist increased from Top 100 to Top 150 in June 2019.
