hi is a 2.0 Insane Demon level by KrmaL. It is known for having good effects and difficult, repetitive gameplay involving timings, numerous symmetrical yet confusing dual segments, and some tricky memorization.

Description

[edit | edit source]

hi begins similarly to Lit Fuse with a half-speed cube section where the player must jump over single-coloured spikes. The player, however, cannot hold over the spikes, or they will die after a few spikes. After a while, the cube goes on a slope and the player has to hit a blue orb, then time a triple-spike jump immediately after. This leads to a confusing dual with orbs, tricky timings, minor memory and pads.

After the dual, there is a mini-cube segment similar to Falling Up and Death Moon. It is fairly simple and syncs to the music well. Here, the player has an extremely reduced vision, which makes this section even harder (but still one of the easiest parts of the level). This leads to the drop, an orange-themed dual wave with confusing decoration, size and game-mode portals. There are also confusing robot sections and a challenging UFO segment. After this, the music slows down and the player is led to a ship part with a long, repetitive, half-speed straight-fly, after which the level ends.

Trivia

[edit | edit source]
  • TrusTa was the first victor of hi.
  • There are two rated remakes of hi: 'BYE' by AlrexX and 'Hiii' by OrotS.
  • The level name, hi, comes from the song's only lyric.
    • The word 'Hi' can be seen right before the drop.
  • There is a meme surrounding hi where people would upload videos of them supposedly beating hi; the videos actually depict the first single-spike jumps in the cube looped over and over again to confuse people and make them think that the first part was longer than they remember before realizing they are watching a loop.
  • hi was in EricVanWilderman's 12 Demons of Christmas 2019 series, as Demon #5.[1]
