Acropolis is a 1.9/2.0 Insane Demon level by Zobros. It is notorious for its numerous tight spaces, slow speed, 'thorn balls', many small spikes, and timings. A remake, AcropoliX, was created by SoulsTRK and released in 2.0, while a Silent remake, Silent Acropolis, was hosted by Phantom7Ks and is set for an open verification.

Description

  • 0-16%: Acropolis begins with a half-speed cube section consisting of difficult jumps and drops that need crucial timing. This section gets progressively more difficult. It is one of the harder parts of the level.
  • 16-25%: Next, the player enters a moderately difficult ball segment that needs timing because of spikes and spike balls everywhere. This segment usually takes time to learn due to numerous traps and timings.
  • 25-34%: Afterwards, the player transitions into a ship sequence with tight spaces. This sequence is tight but not as difficult as the more timing-intensive parts.
  • 34-43%: Afterwards, the player enters a fairly difficult cube section containing numerous traps, invisible spikes, and 'thorn balls' everywhere that mostly cover the various orbs. However, this part is actually easier than it looks, fairly easy to memorise, and only requires minimal training to get consistent.
  • 43-51%: The player enters a moderately difficult mini-ship sequence with moderately tight spaces and peculiar gameplay for a ship part, which requires a bit of skill. Despite this, it is one of the easier parts of the level.
  • 51-60%: After the ship, the player transitions into a tight UFO segment with quite a specific input pattern, notorious for requiring extremely precise timings.
  • 60-69%: Next, the player enters a ball segment similar to the first, with tricky timings throughout.
  • 69-79%: Afterwards, they enter a cube section with a few simple jumps over clusters of tiny grey spikes. They are the same jumps repeatedly throughout the 9% segment, but they require good consistency.
  • 79-100%: Finally, the player enters a wave segment with many open spaces, thorn balls, and spikes. This wave section is considered one of the easier parts of the level, but it can be difficult to gain consistency with. Near the end, Zobros' name appears below a final spam corridor that has ended its fair share of unlucky players.

User coins

Acropolis has three user coins. The second and third are the hardest to obtain.

  • The first coin is located in the first ball segment at 20%. It is fairly easy to get, as the player only needs to hit the pink orb with good timing since the coin is under it. However, it is easy to hit too late (thus crashing into the wall) and hit too early (thus crashing into the spike ball overhead or overshooting and not getting the coin at all).
  • The second coin is located at the second ship sequence, at 46%. Located near a gravity portal, the player must time their flying very well to avoid crashing into the spikes lining their passage while being in a position to grab the coin. The coin is placed quite far to the left, so the player must input and hold earlier than usual to collect it.
  • The third coin is located at the last wave segment, at the top of the spike balls at 95%. The player must carefully collect the coin, as blocks above it can cause them to crash.

Trivia

  • Acropolis was ranked #48 in GDToday's '100 Greatest Levels of All Time' list.
  • Zobros released a coin update for Acropolis on 10 March 2016.[1]
    • Zobros accidentally failed to collect the third coin while trying to re-beat Acropolis, as shown at the end of his re-verification video. Later, he updated the video.
    • The coins became verified on 8 May 2020.
  • The entirety of Acropolis is at half-speed, showing that even slower speeds can be extremely difficult.
  • It is believed that at the time Acropolis was released, it was the hardest legitimately verified level.
    • It also makes Acropolis the last level to simultaneously be fully solo (entirely created and verified by a single player) and the hardest level legitimately beaten.
    • This accomplishment is not well known due to much harder illegitimately verified levels being rated at the time, such as ICE Carbon Diablo X and Cataclysm.
  • If the player jumps over the first spike ball just before the wave segment, the word 'Turki' appears.
  • In the editor, some texts say 'Lol' above the coin and 'Easy' at the end of the final part.
  • In real life, Acropolis translates to the highest part of an ancient city and the citizens' last resort in case of a terrible war.
  • Acropolis's success has led to numerous remakes:
    • AcropoliX, a buffed 2.0 remake of this level, was verified on 28 April 2016.[2] A few days later, it was buffed slightly with more detailed decoration.
    • BlassCFB and others created a level inspired by it known as WcropoliX, which was verified on 1 August 2016. However, despite its age and its difficulty surpassing Bloodbath at the time, the level never received a rating until years later.[3]
    • SrGuillester and AZuLer4 created an urban-themed Extreme Demon inspired by the level known as Hatred.
    • Another level, El Dorado, is believed to be a buffed green remake of Acropolis.
      • El Dorado has a super-buffed remake called The Golden.
        • There is also a sequel or 'antagonist' to The Golden, and it is an extension of the song in the level Infernal Abyss called Avernus.
        • There is another level heavily inspired by The Golden with a crystal cave theme called Amethyst.
    • There is a 2.1 remake of the level called Acrozis, verified by Gokill on 9 July 2021.[4]
    • MindCap is also hosting a mega-collaboration level inspired by Acropolis called HELIOPOLIS. It is set to be the hardest level in the game.
    • Acropolis has an impossible version named 'Silent Acropolis' created by Danmaster007.[5]
      • Silent Acropolis also has an upcoming 2.1 remake hosted by The Purgatory, which is also set to be the hardest level in the game.[6]
