CraZy III
CraZy III is a 2.1 Insane Demon level by DavJT, verified by Nexus and published on 16 September 2021.[1] It is the third instalment of the CraZy series, after CraZy and CraZy II. It is the longest and hardest of the series, as an XL level.
Like its two predecessors, CraZy III features lots of circus- and madness-themed art and effects, as well as a hectic, wacky boss fight. DavJT originally said after releasing CraZy II that he would not be making the third level, but he changed his mind after DirtyPaws released the song he picked for the level. The level was released on 16 September 2021 after development began in August 2019. DavJT originally planned for CraZy III to be his last full level in the game, but he returned a few months later.
CraZy III is generally praised for its theming and gameplay, becoming one of the most iconic levels in Geometry Dash. It remains the second-most-popular Insane Demon.
A sequel named CraZy IV is currently under development.
Description
[edit | edit source]- 0-8%: CraZy III begins with a slow ship part, like CraZy and CraZy II. An animation plays with the player emerging from a magic hat into a monochrome area. First, the player must fly upward through some appearing spikes. After changing gravity twice, they must fly around a sawblade and hold while hitting the next slope. They must then fly under a balloon that floats upward. After they become a cube, the text, 'This will be fun' appears. One double-spike must be jumped over, and the sepia colour palette fades away.
- 8-14%: Next, the player emerges from the mouth of Jarak, a clown monster that will appear later in the level as the boss. They must jump over some spikes before becoming a ship and slightly flying upwards to avoid hitting spikes and balloons. Next is a cube part with two pink orbs; the player should only hit and hold the first orb to avoid hitting the second. After a green orb, there are two blue orbs tightly placed next to platforms. The player then becomes a robot and must jump over some spikes while a red hand approaches from above. After this, they become a ship and must fly downward in a similar fashion to the previous ship part. During this, a clown peeks into view from below. After a few robot timings, a dash orb must be held.
- 14-20%: The next section resembles a library or storage area. After one jump in cube form, the player enters an asymmetrical dual. First, two dash orbs must be released before the spike in the middle. The upside-down cube becomes mini while the other one remains normal size. The dual contains many orbs and dash orbs, and can be confusing without practice. The final part of the dual has both cubes jump over spikes and hit blue orbs on a flat platform while gravity switches frequently, and, finally, the player enters the shadows.
- 20-27%: An animation of a balloon floating in the air plays before popping to reveal the player as a ball inside. The player must make two timings before entering quadruple speed for a short time, then return to half speed. A chain of three dash orbs follows with a quadruple-speed-change after the second one. While the player goes through these dash orbs, the creepy clowns' feet and hands appear at the top and bottom of the screen. The player must then hit a blue orb and a green orb. They then return to a cube and go over the boss's head in CraZy II, spitting out a skull. One last double spike must be jumped over in this section before the curtains come down.
- 27-40%: The curtains swing open, and the lyrics begin. The player is in the interior of a stage, with hanging platforms and sacks strung as interactable decorations. The first jump lands the player on a wooden platform, and below is a yellow gravity portal to enter, followed by a green orb. The player then lands on a red curtain structure with a mini-portal, followed by a short area consisting mainly of moving platforms. Empty seats and podiums can be seen in the background, bumping to the rhythm. After a few more timings, the player lands on top of an elevator containing a clown singing a song and pinching a stopwatch, which the player soon drops and re-enters normal size. The player hits a yellow pad and enters a ship part, flying between large flickering lights and large letters reading 'Join Us For the ride', a reference to the level's song lyrics.
- 34-42%: Next, the player becomes a robot in a short storage-like area decorated solely with boxes and crates and a single jack-in-the-box. After switching gravity via a green orb and taking two last easy jumps, they enter another ship portal disguised as a top hat, with void-like obstacles containing numerous eyes shivering and flickering between light and dark. This part constantly switches gravity and speeds up. A bright portal opens ahead, drawing in large sawblades that approach the player from behind and are relatively difficult to see without practice. A sinister grin with three eyes hides quietly behind the portal as the player enters.
- 42-49%: The screen suddenly goes black, and a solid white hand reaches the player. This section is a very dark room at half-speed, littered with cages containing various icons, and with narrow passages that utilise the wave. At the end of the final wave, the player must hold up to dodge a small spike directly below the cube portal before taking a final jump and entering the doorway. Another clown hides in the darkness of the transition.
- 49-58%: This part of the circus is located outside, with many other tents in the distance and rainbow gradient structures decorated with string lights. The player must time tricky jumps on angled, moving platforms with orbs. Next is a section featuring a trampoline gimmick with many fake orbs swinging through the air to fool the player. The player must hit the green, blue, and pink orbs in subsequent order. Twisting striped poles stand throughout the part, and a clown holding a balloon is gripping a tent in the background. The screen turns solid black and red with a large clown eyeing the player as they fall into a hat and pop out as a robot after an animation. After a couple of easy jumps, the player enters an unfamiliar clown's gaping mouth.
- 58-62%: A trap door swings open from the clown's head, and the player hops out. This part switches between the designs from CraZy, CraZy II, and earlier parts of the level. The gameplay is relatively easy with heavily synced clicks before the player falls into a hat with an ominous red glow.
- 62-79%: The void part begins. Everything is frozen in time and completely static, styled purely in monochrome, aside from rare red pulses and a glowing lighthouse holding a single pink orb. The player passes by shattered structures, and balloons are mid-pop with fuzzy lights flickering from the foreground. The beginning is a mini-cube part, often switching to a ship to fly through narrow corridors and navigate through broken buildings. Then comes a ball part and another cube part. The player rises and falls as they hit invisible gravity portals, and they must time the pink orb hovering in the lighthouse before the last two jumps into a normal-sized wave part.
- 79-85%: While travelling between brightly-lit paths, the player is teleported by entering floating hats. The level constantly speeds up and switches gravity, as indicated by the colour of the hat's band, before launching the player upwards as a cube with a single large orb for them to tap. Jarak enters the frame from the left of the screen, and the boss fight begins.
- 85-97%: The final section of the level is designed with classic black and rainbow structures featuring stars and shattered pieces floating around. The part features a boss fight against Jarak. Jarak uses diverse clown-themed attacks, such as launching a punching glove from his mouth and summoning jack-in-the-boxes with reaching arms and creatures to avoid. He also fires lasers and has an eye in his mouth that emits pupils that explode, shattering structures with cartoon effects, and he can summon glowing hats that fire lasers from their eyes. His final set of attacks launches a bouncy ball from his nose before he fires a finger gun from his mouth. His eyes turn white, and he slowly approaches the player, his mouth gaping, as the player traverses flashy, transparent blocks and spikes. The player finally enters a ship part while darkness slowly closes before Jarak's jaw shuts on them.
- 97-100% (End Screen): The end screen displays the name of the level with the 'CraZy' stylised as monsters and the 'III' as balloons in a simple scratchy typeface.
