Conical Depression is a 2.0 solo Extreme Demon level created, verified and published by KrmaL. It is a joke-level parody of Stereo Madness, using the same song and made entirely in the style of the main level, albeit with an incoherent layout. It is notorious for its gameplay, which features extensive straight flying, orb timings and spamming, and, most notably, extreme wave manoeuvring.

Gameplay

  • 0-10%: The level starts with an extremely difficult (and confusing) mini-wave section, where the player must take advantage of the game's faulty hitboxes. Here, the player must memorize which route should be taken, simultaneously manoeuvring through tight spaces and moving right between spikes.
  • 11-22%: Next, the player enters a normal speed mini-ball segment. While it is not that difficult compared to the other parts of the level, it still features some critical timings, along with a moderately long orb spam part. A cube section comes next, requiring players to perform late timings on jump orbs, as hitting a pink orb too early would likely result in hitting the ceiling and crashing.
  • 23-50%: Afterwards, the player enters a difficult ship sequence. Here, not only would there be an abundance of straight flying, but it would also require players to perform timed jump- and gravity orb inputs along with minor memorization, making it even more frustrating. A mini ship/mini UFO dual will appear here, separating the ship sequences.
  • 51-85%: The part that comes right after the ship sequence is entirely based on the cube game mode. The speed is set at triple. Like the previous cube part, it features tons of precise orb timings, which would be difficult for newer players to get used to. This part also uses the spikes' odd hit boxes to make it even more challenging, as some of the timings require the player to jump right next to a spike. Jump orb spamming is something that players should expect here, too.
  • 86-100%: The final part is a parody of the original Stereo Madness. It is a copy of the final sequence one would encounter in the first official level of the game, but instead of being a normal ship sequence, it uses the mini-wave game mode. This part would not be a problem for anyone who had gotten this far. The level ends after this, as the player encounters a harmless wall of spikes at the end.

Fails

  • Shuri crashed at 81%.
  • R3YGA crashed at 83%.
  • Cutter crashed at 85%.
  • Irf4nG4mer crashed at 98%.

Trivia

  • The password for the level is 000000.
  • The level contains 5,207 objects.
  • The level is 1m 25s in length.
  • The level was initially placed at #8 on the Demonlist on 4 January 2017, above Betrayal of Fate (#9) and below Hatred (#7).
    • Right after the official Demonlist was created, Conical Depression was the hardest level to use an official song at the time, it was later beaten by The Hell World as the new hardest followed by The Hell Zone which was the second hardest.
  • It is currently on the Legacy List of the Low Refresh Rate Mobile Demonlist.
  • The level itself is an extended version of KrmaL's older challenge level, "Sneezing Cats" (and "egg holes"). While the level was removed from the servers, a YouTube video of the level is still present on his channel.
  • Surv was the first to beat this (excluding KrmaL himself), followed by Marker and Sunix.[1]
  • This level was hacked in late February 2017 and was turned into a free Demon, but was patched about a week later.[2]
    • The player had to hold to direct their mini-wave into a quadruple-speed portal and wave portal at the top of the screen, and then more portals showed up, putting the player's mini-wave above the level.
  • RobTop agreed to rate the level before it was created.
  • This level was used as a custom background for part of M A N I X to fool the player into thinking Krmal added Conical Depression in M A N I X, although this was proven a joke background.
  • There are two sequels and a rebirth of this level, which are unrated:
    • KitsuARG made an unofficial sequel to the level called Trapazoid Happiness. It was verified by Amomegator7. Many players have beaten it, including Sunix and MetaManRB. It is unrated but considered to be Insane Demon-difficulty.
    • There is an unofficial sequel to this level called Northernsence, verified by Luqualizer.
    • Aviila RX2X verified a rebirth of this level, called Conical Depression X. While it is still unrated, it is considered to be possibly harder than Bloodbath. The level was recently hacked and turned into a free Demon. It has not been patched.
  • npesta accidentally sent a Shitty version of this level by Kuiper1.
  • This is KrmaL's only level to start with a game mode other than the cube.
  • The placement of Hyper Paradox on 1 November 2020 pushed Conical Depression into the Legacy List of the Demonlist.
  • This level was in EricVanWilderman's 12 Demons of Christmas 2024 Community Series, as Demon #12, being completed by EVW himself.[3]
