Blackfire Backfire is a 2.2 Easy Demon level by kira9999, published on 21 June 2026. It is the 24th Event Level. The level is themed around Aztec and Polynesian mythology, featuring a sentient statue that comes to life and attacks the player.

    User coins

    [edit | edit source]

Blackfire Backfire contains only one user coin.

When the player first turns into a mini-robot, they must perform a full jump to pass through land on a series of hidden ledges in an overhead structure, then another to reach a yellow and red orb. The orbs fade in as the player approaches them; they will not be visible if the player takes the main route. After hitting the orbs, the player picks up a large skull collectable at 12.25% before returning to the main route.

Collecting the skull triggers the level's extended route, adding the segments listed as 25-55% above; the coin will be collected at 59%. Some changes to the audio and visuals are also present in the level; most notably, during the ending animation, the cube transforms into a character with their arms raised, firing a beam of light at Blackfire.

    Trivia

    [edit | edit source]
    • Blackfire Backfire uses two songs and 10 sound effects (SFXs).
    • If the normal route is taken, Blackfire Backfire lasts 2 minutes and 7 seconds.
      • Blackfire Backfire was originally verified using the normal route. After its update on 25 June, it was verified using the coin route. The normal route's completion percentage reaches 70.75%.
    • If the coin route is included, Blackfire Backfire is the second-longest Event Level by duration, only behind Space Invaders.
    • On 10 August 2025, Camellia uploaded a preview of his upcoming album, Chimera Dragons. In the video's description, kira9999 was listed as the creator of an upcoming Event Level.[1] However, over 10 months passed before RobTop finally announced the then-upcoming release of Blackfire Backfire on 19 June 2026.[2]
    • Blackfire Backfire was the first level featured on the official Geometry Dash Spotlight channel.[3]
    • Discounting the NoCopyrightSounds x Geometry Dash album, Chimera Dragons is the first album to feature in two separate Event Levels. It was previously used in Backbeat Revenge.
    • If the player crashes within proximity of the spiked blocks with faces in the first wave section, the faces will begin laughing faster. This is due to the part being slowed down by a Timewarp Trigger, which is always disabled upon death.
      • The faces remain static when LDM is enabled.

    Portuguese signs

The first section of Blackfire Backfire contains several signs as decorations. All of them are written in Portuguese, and some contain pictograms. All messages and signs in this section are present on editor layer 24 and listed in no particular order, unless otherwise stated.

    • A welcome board on layer 66 bears the words 'bem-vindo a Santa clarinha; nos vemos na octa-feira'. It roughly translates as 'Welcome to Santa Clarinha; see you on the 8th day'.
      • Santa Clarinha is a fictional town name meaning 'Little Saint Clare'.
      • The Portuguese language numbers weekdays from 2 ('segunda-feira' for Monday) to 6 ('sexta-feira' for Friday). Saturday and Sunday may be referred to using the prefixes for 7 and 1, respectively; however, they are usually replaced with 'sábado' ('Sabbath') and 'domingo' ('Dominicus', or the Day of the Lord).
      • By extension, there are two notes regarding 'octa-feira':
        • It is a fictional 8th day of the week.
        • The prefix 'octa-' is Greek, not Portuguese. If translated properly, the correct prefix would be 'oitava-'.
    • Also on layer 66 is a warning sign reading 'prepare-se pa conhecer DEUX' and 'adeus', the latter marked below a hieroglyph combining a spike outline and three concentric rings, resembling a pyramid with an eye. It is believed that this sign translates as 'prepare to meet GOD' and 'goodbye'.
      • The word 'DEUX' is a intentional misspelling of 'DEUS', meaning 'GOD', but it contains an X as a joke because the Rio de Janeiro accent pronounces anything that ends with S as X.
    • Numerous signs reading 'Proibido fumar', or 'No smoking'.
    • 'Nos chame 0000-9999-K', or 'Call us at 0000-9999-K'. The letter and last four digits reference kira9999's name.
    • A square of four circular speed limit signs, all marked with a limit of 99. Units are not present.
    • A one-way sign reading 'Mao unica' (ONE WAY).
    • Hexagonal 'PARE' (STOP) signs can be seen on the right of the screen.
    • 'CUIDADO: Proibido ultrapassar; Sujeto a multa'; anti-trespassing signs reading 'CAUTION: Trespassing prohibited; [violators will be] subject to a fine'.
    • 'Zona sem wave', or 'wave-free zone'.
    • A pair of signs reading 'Este caminho' and 'Não é este caminho' are placed on opposite sides of the vertical centre. They translate as 'This way' and 'Not this way'.
    • 'O blackfire está a caminho', or 'the Blackfire is coming'.
    • Two triangular warning signs, marked with an exclamation mark and falling rocks, are paired with warnings reading 'Prerigo' and 'Perigo à frente'. The former's intended translation is 'DANGER', and the latter's is 'Danger ahead'.
      • 'Prerigo' is a typo; the correct spelling of 'danger' is 'perigo'.
    • A sign reading 'É melhor chamar o Saul; Faz a boa'. The first half translates as 'Better Call Saul', referencing the Breaking Bad prequel of the same name, while the second half is Portuguese slang that roughly means 'hook me up' or 'do me a favour'.
    • 'AAAAFFFIIIIIIII' is a Portuguese onomatopoeia, similar to 'ugh' in English.
    • 'Precisamos de você; Chegue mais perto' roughly means 'We need you' and 'come closer'.
    • 'Por favor entre', or 'Please enter'.
    • 'Fim da linha', or 'End of the line'.
    • 'Avenida jelly', or 'Jelly Avenue'. It is presumably a street where the level takes place; it is unknown whether or not it references anything.
    • Two signs on opposite sides read 'Propriedade privada; fique longe' ('Private property; keep out') and 'CUIDADO: Propriedade privada; não entre' ('CAUTION: Private property; do not enter').
    • 'À venda: Escada rolante portátil', or 'FOR SALE: Portable escalator'. It is an absurdist joke based on the oxymoronic concept of a relocatable escalator.
    • On one of the right walls, the words 'Um prêmio especial está esperando por você' are hidden in dark text; it translates as 'A special prize is waiting for you'.
      • The same message is also printed on a sign near the end of the section, alongside the aforementioned phone number. However, a majority of the sign is obscured by the greenery on the right side of the screen.
    • Also near the end of the section, a sign on the left side of the screen reads 'PERIGO: Sua fé não te salvará', translating as 'DANGER: Your faith will not save you', tying into the theistic undertones of the Aztec civilization.
