A Bizarre Phantasm
A Bizarre Phantasm (commonly abbreviated as ABP) is a 2.0 Extreme Demon mega-collaboration level by the members of Team N2. The level utilizes 2.0 effects in its bright designs, with blue as the theme colour, and contains numerous invisible portals demarked only by small decorations. The gameplay features frequent tight spaces, precise timings, and tricks. It is one of the most popular Extreme Demons in Geometry Dash and has received praise for its design and memory-based gameplay.
The first version of A Bizarre Phantasm was thought to have been verified by Cyclic. However, Cyclic later alleged that the verification was hacked. Later, the level received a harder update, which GoodSmile verified.[1]
Description
[edit | edit source]Note: If a player's name is italicized, the player has created gameplay in the section featured. If a player's name is underlined, the player has created decoration in the section featured.
- 0-8% (Hermes + Zelda): A Bizarre Phantasm begins with Hermes's part, a relatively straightforward (for an Extreme Demon) cube sequence with gravity portals and blue orbs. It is somewhat tricky but not too extreme.
- 8-13% (Motu + Zelda): The level then progresses to a much greater difficulty with Motu's part; a half-speed wave sequence with Acropolis-like spacing and invisible gravity portals that make this wave significantly more difficult than it may seem. In Low Detail Mode, it is impossible to see where the gravity portals are leading.
- 13-22% (Aeidux + Yuri): The level then progresses to Aeidux's part, which consists of a double-speed ball sequence, which is relatively simple (for an Extreme Demon), and of a ship sequence where the player only needs to fly straight.
- 22-28% (Reple + Zelda): Reple's part follows up. It is a challenging UFO sequence with some awkward timings, followed by a slow ball sequence featuring tricks and tight spaces.
- 28-34% (Ryan LC + Zelda): Ryan LC's part starts with a dual-mini-ship sequence, then changes to a ship/UFO mixed dual.
- 34-40% (Luneth): Luneth's part starts with a very tricky wave sequence with tight spaces and invisible size portals the player must be aware of. It then transitions to a triple-speed UFO sequence with even trickier timings than the previous wave sequence, featuring numerous gravity portals and spikes to trick the player further.
- 40-47% (Koreaqwer): Here, the song picks up intensity. Koreaqwer's part is challenging. It is a double-speed mini-wave sequence comprised of numerous tight spaces, awkward timing, and invisible gravity portals, which are again marked only by decorations that easily blend with the background. It changes to a regular-size wave but continues to throw invisible gravity portals and tight spaces at the player.
- 47-52% (RedDragon): The difficulty then cools down a lot with RedDragon's part, which is a relatively straightforward (for an Extreme Demon) ship sequence with some good straight-flying skills required.
- 52-57% (WOOGI1411): WOOGI1411's part is quite tricky and challenging because of some very fast and awkward timings the player must perform in a window of about five seconds, first as a ball, then in a cube with many random objects to add to the player's confusion.
- 57-64% (ZenthicAlpha): The cube switches to a wave that marks the beginning of Zenthic's part. It is significantly easier than the two wave sequences that preceded it, but it still features tight spaces, a few gravity portals, and tricky timings. It then switches to a moderately difficult ship with tight spaces, and then a short but tricky mini-ball.
- 64-70% (Miner + Yuri): Miner's part is challenging due to the wave and the end of the ship sequence. First, the wave features very tight spaces marked by blue and yellow swirls. However, they represent an opposite gravity portal, so the player must be careful. The wave then goes mini and into some very tight spaces that the player must squeeze through carefully. The player then transforms into a dual-ship, which is incredibly frustrating because the screen goes dark and the player must still navigate through obstacles they can no longer see.
- 70-83% (Zelda): Zelda's part is a mixed dual that changes halfway through and is very tricky and difficult to do without good practice. It has even more invisible gravity portals and orbs, and very short and crucial timings that must be executed flawlessly. The mixed dual then switches to a reasonably easy wave (for an Extreme Demon), but then goes into one last hard leg of the level, a mini-ship with more invisible gravity portals and this time, invisible orbs.
- 83-100% (Yuri): Yuri's part is a rather unique wave sequence, as the player must memorize which keys they must obtain in order not to crash at a very infuriating point in the level. If the player completes this wave sequence, they will enter a cube sequence displaying a list of all the people who created the level, along with a free user coin as a reward for beating it. The level ends alongside a note that it was verified by GoodSmile (Cyclic in the old version).
User coins
[edit | edit source]- The first coin is located at 13%. The player must approach the text 'COSINE' at the bottom and its spikes above to get the coin that is near the said word.
- The second coin is located at 43%. The player must travel high up and return to the ground to collect the coin without dying.
- The third coin is located at 98%. It is a reward for completing the level, and therefore, is a free coin at the end of the level.
Gameplay
[edit | edit source]Trivia
[edit | edit source]- Upon the creation of the modern Demonlist on Pointercrate on 4 January 2017, A Bizarre Phantasm was placed at #11, above Red World Rebirth and below Audio Extraction.
- A Bizarre Phantasm was ranked #73 in GDToday's '100 Greatest Levels of All Time' list.
- This is Team N2's second-rated creation and is also their second Demon.
- Looking closely at Yuri's part, the correct keys are differently coloured (more cyan) than the others. This colour was also used in the ending, where Team N2's names are labelled in cyan.
- Zelda, one of the creators, designed the vast majority of A Bizarre Phantasm.
- A Bizarre Phantasm is one of two well-known 2.0 Demons to use a song by Goukisan, the other being Betrayal of Fate.
- Curiously, both use the same song, Betrayal of Fate.
- GoodSmile, the verifier of Audio Excursion, verified the updated version (which fixed a skip in Miner's wave sequence) of A Bizarre Phantasm legitimately. He has also stated that he was wrong to say that this level is easier than ICE Carbon Diablo X. The update also added a Low-Detail Mode.
- Although Cyclic confessed to having allegedly hack-verified the original version, it remains unknown whether or not this was true, as there is yet to be concrete evidence discovered in Cyclic's footage that would prove his illegitimacy.
- Toward the end, where it says the creators of A Bizarre Phantasm and 'We are N2', Luneth's name was misspelled as 'Luenth'. It was probably not intentional, as this issue was later fixed in an update to the level.
- Also in the old update, 'verified' was spelt 'verifyed'. This error was fixed in the later update.
- The order of keys in Yuri's part is as follows: 121322313212321312213, where '1' is the key on top, '2' is the one in the middle, and '3' is the one at the bottom. In the level, it is marked by the red arrows '^>^v>>v^v>^>v^>v^>>^v', with the words: 'Just Remember'.
- A Bizarre Phantasm is the only Team N2 level that is a memory level, due to its tricky sequences, invisible portals and obstacles, as well as the memory wave.
- A Bizarre Phantasm was originally titled Heliopolis, and the colour scheme was originally brown and orange. The song was originally 'Bloom' by Envy.
- Heliopolis is now the name of an upcoming Top 1 level by MindCap.
- There is a spiritual sequel to A Bizarre Phantasm called Blade of Justice, which was verified by RicoLP.
- The placement of Cold Sweat on 21 September 2020 pushed A Bizarre Phantasm into the Legacy List of the Demonlist.
- A Bizarre Phantasm is also the second Team N2 level to fall into the Legacy List.
- There is a joke level with the same title created by Krazyman50 (not to be confused with KrmaL) with the same gameplay until the keys at Yuri's part, where there is a ludicrous amount of keys and arrows added onto Yuri's original part.
- According to the YouTuber nifty, there are 29,814 keys in total in Yuri's extended part, with the keys in this version lasting 1 hour, 23 minutes, and 54 seconds.
Errors
- In Miner's wave sequence, the player was able to skip a huge portion of the difficult sequence, which has caused many skilled players to fail by going up and touching the ceiling. This skip has been fixed in the new version, verified by GoodSmile.
- In the second wave sequence, the player can skip the mini-portal. This skip, however, does not significantly alter the difficulty.
- It is possible to activate the triggers without touching the keys on Yuri's part due to the hitboxes of the triggers being slightly larger than those of the keys. This event occurred during GuitarHeroStyles's stream.
