Bass Cave is a 2.0/2.1 Extreme Demon collaboration level by Bloodshot and nSwish, legitimately verified by the latter.[1] It is a Deadlocked-themed level rated initially as a Hard Demon, but it has since been buffed to an Extreme Demon, and it was hack-verified by Bloodshot to upload onto the servers. That version of the level was considered impossible by some players. After some time, the level was updated again, by nSwish, to balance certain aspects of the gameplay and update the decorations. This version is the current one. It was verified legitimately by nSwish on 5 December 2019.

Description

[edit | edit source]
  • 0-17%: Bass Cave begins with a long slow speed-mini-wave with insane timings and extremely tight spacing. The player must navigate between spikes that are just enough for the wave to pass through. Additionally, there are numerous corridors with accurate wave spam to navigate. The wave becomes normal-sized for a short while and must navigate between a row of tight spikes before turning mini again and executing the same moves as before. After this wave, the player becomes a normal-sized ship, and there are challenging straight-fly passages. In addition to the straight-fly, the player must also navigate between green orbs and saw blades and then turn mini for a segment. After the saw blade area, the player enters a long ship-straight-fly with one block of space between the spikes. Before the song hits the drop, the player turns into a cube and must jump precisely over triple spikes and hit a pink orb on the floor. After the final triple spikes, the player turns into a wave and must hold to pass above a comedic, poorly-made Extreme Demon face. In the darkness, the player turns into a ball. They can collect the first coin by switching gravity quickly up and down before going into the text 'Bass Knight'.
  • 17-40%: The player goes into a triple-speed ship segment reminiscent of Deadlocked. In addition to many gravity switch portals that the player must navigate within tiny corridors, there are also green orbs to bounce the player within turns. Memorisation is key because there are many teleport portals. It would move the player up and down within a corridor or sometimes between two corridors. These corridors have random spikes throughout and monsters to ensure the player must straight-fly exceptionally well to pass this section. After a mix of ship segments with these conditions, the player turns into a ball and hits a red orb to enter a short memory segment. There are confusing orbs the player must avoid, and fake ground spikes that are safe to touch. In addition, there are also tight platforms that the player must go between to avoid spikes on either side. At the end of the ball segment, the player must memorise where to go, as there is a corridor with three areas and corridors for the ball to navigate, but some are fake and will kill the player. After the ball, the screen fades to black, and a small minigame appears, where the player must keep the arrow within the green area. Failure to do so will result in death.
  • 40-73%: After the small minigame, the level accelerates back up to triple-speed, and the game mode switches over to a wave. The player must navigate through precise spacing, with some spamming involved. There is also a single gravity change in this segment. Afterwards, the game mode turns into a half-speed UFO, and the player must perform difficult timings before the level speeds up to double speed. Now, the player must proceed upwards while traversing through many anti-gravity portals. This UFO section ends with a pink orb. Next is a memory-based cube section. It begins with the player jumping into a yellow orb and two pink orbs, which lead to a teleport portal. After entering the teleport portal, the player must wait a bit until hitting a green orb, a pink orb, and two blue orbs while ignoring a ton of other fake orbs in the way. Afterwards, there is a challenging ship area with many downward-flying segments and teleport portals. It ends with an abrupt mini-portal. Then, the player's game mode switches to a wave, and they must now navigate through numerous tight spaces and speed portals. Then, the player enters a ball portal, and now they must time six timings before timing three more orb timings: two blue orbs and a green orb. The ball section concludes with four pink orbs and a green orb. The next part is an automatic cube section.
  • 73-100%: The following part is a half-speed memory-based ship section where the player must proceed through eight pillars, all of them containing three pathways to pick from, only one of them being correct. Next to the eighth pillar, some text appears that states the word 'GO!' Then, the speed accelerates up to regular speed, and the player must traverse through a UFO section containing plenty of pink orbs, many gravity portals, and a half-speed portal. Afterwards, it speeds up to double speed, and the player must proceed through a precise wave segment containing numerous tight spaces and a mini-portal. The full level ends with many mini-cube jumps with the occasional double orb timing. The cube section concludes with a pink orb that transitions into a black orb, reminiscent of the ending of Prismatic Haze.

Trivia

[edit | edit source]
  • Bass Cave was placed at #73 on the Demonlist on 21 January 2020, above SPEEDRUN and below distraught.
    • This addition pushed Breakout Redux into the Extended List for the second time and Red World Rebirth into the Legacy List.
  • The second version of Bass Cave (the original buffed version to Extreme Demon by Bloodshot) was rated, even though Bloodshot published the full showcase of that version.[2]
  • The update to Bass Cave that made it an Extreme Demon-worthy level was hacked, and Bloodshot confessed to this in the description of the showcase.[2]
  • Bass Cave is the seventh-oldest Extreme Demon.
  • Bloodshot's buffed version of Bass Cave had a small typo. At 16%, the player encountered a text that was supposed to say 'Bass Knight'. However, Bloodshot accidentally forgot the 'N' in 'Knight', so the level said 'Bass Kight'. He realised this only after the level was published. It was later fixed in nSwish's updated version.
  • In December 2020, the smiling cube at the beginning had a Santa hat.
  • Poorly made Extreme Demon face
At 14%, a very poorly made Extreme Demon face appears to become a small meme around the community. Bloodshot stated the Demon face was poorly made on purpose, as Bloodshot was streaming when making it and only included it for comedic reasons. Many players compared it to the similar Demon face at the drop in Astral Divinity, cracking ironic jokes that Bass Cave's version was 'so much' better.
    • A few Geometry Dash Discord servers use the Demon face as a custom emoji, such as the Demonlist Public Server.
      • FoundMyBall even replaced the Demon face in Astral Divinity with Bass Cave's Demon face in one of his videos.
  • Due to its gameplay, Bass Cave received a generally unfavourable reception from numerous players in the community.
    • Bass Cave is npesta's least favourite level in the game.
  • The placement of Quantum Dynamix on 18 May 2022 pushed Bass Cave into the Legacy List of the Demonlist.
