Oblivion is a 2.1 Extreme Demon collaboration level hosted by Benji8080, verified and published by dice88.[1] It is the official sequel to Cognition. The style is similar to its predecessor, featuring fast yet very tight, complex gameplay and multicoloured design-based decoration. Like Cognition, the level was well received by the community, amassing over 500 victors to this day.
An unofficial sequel, Blossom, has been showcased by bop as a work-in-progress layout on 20 March 2024.[2]
Description
[edit | edit source]- 0-26% (Eth): Oblivion begins with a completely single-speed pre-drop. When the player is launched from a pad, they must pass through a succession of orbs and jumps before flying in a straight line. The player must then hit a few more orbs in the ball game-mode before entering a small, brief upside-down mini-ship corridor. The player then enters a UFO segment where they must perfectly time each jump and orb. The player must then proceed through a brief straight-fly before entering the next cube part with more orbs than the previous. Next is a shorter UFO segment with the same difficulty. The player must pass through a few wave timings before reaching the next ball part. The next ball part has a few tight orb timings, and once passed, the player must perform a small mini-wave transition before entering the section's final ship phase. The player shifts gravity and size a few times in this ship segment until the screen goes black, then slows to half speed.
- 26-49% (Goobfrudla): The level suddenly accelerates to triple speed, and the player must hit a series of orbs in the cube game-mode before the song's beat drop plays. Then, the player enters a brief ball part with only one click before being required to perform additional tight orb timings. Following that, they must complete a brief UFO segment with a few tight timings before returning to the cube game-mode. The player, however, only needs to execute two jumps before being sent into a quick straight-fly and wave manoeuvre. Following the ship/wave transition, the player enters a slightly longer cube segment with a few tight timings. After passing this cube segment, they must time a couple of ball clicks before entering a brief ship part. As the section concludes, the player must execute a few more cube timings as well as a tight double-speed mini-wave part.
- 49-68% (Deadlox): The following segment begins with a few cube timings before the player enters a UFO portal and must perform some tight clicks. Next is a brief ball segment with two timings and another short cube segment with a few tight clicks. The player must then complete some cube clicks before entering a UFO part with music-synchronised timings. The player then enters a ship section where they must hit orbs and fly up and down for about two seconds. After passing this, the player must perform tight ball clicks before entering a UFO segment that requires four tight clicks. The section concludes with four tight cube clicks.
- 68-89% (Goobfrudla): The level's penultimate section begins with two ball clicks, followed by a short cube segment with four rapid orb clicks. After the fourth click, the player must navigate two corridors in the ship game-mode before reaching a slightly longer cube segment with a few more timings than the first. After passing this, the player must complete a couple of UFO timings before hitting a couple more orbs in the cube game-mode. Then, they must complete two tight ball timings before entering a dual section, with the top icon a UFO and the bottom one a cube. In this section, the player must time both simultaneously to pass. After that, the player must complete a couple more cube timings before finishing with a tight double-speed wave part.
- 89-100% (Silver): The level's final segment is relatively brief. It features two ball clicks, three orb timings in the cube game-mode, and an upside-down ship part that slows down as the player progresses. After completing a brief curving straight-fly at the finish, the player will see the text 'GG' as well as 'GP BENJI DECO ETH GOOB SILVER VERIFIED BY DICE 88' on the left side and 'OBLIVION' following vertically downwards on the right.

Trivia

- This addition pushed The Golden out of the Top 10, Cognition out of the Top 25, Cybernetic Crescent into the Extended List, and The Hell Field into the Legacy List.
- Cognition is ironically the official prequel to the latter.
- Many were confused that it was labelled as a Cognition sequel, as Flyleaf by lolwut had already been released.
- This change made Cybernetic Crescent the final level in the Technology Trilogy to fall into the Extended List, and The Hell Field the sixth and final level in the Hell Series to fall into the Legacy List.

- Benji8080 created the entire layout.
- Oblivion went through six verifiers (Benji8080, swiborg, Combined, lolwut, spaceuk, and dice88), making it one of the most dropped verification projects in Geometry Dash history.
- Before its rating, many people used the hashtag #RateOblivion to get RobTop to rate Oblivion, similar to how it was with Tidal Wave and Thinking Space II.
- Crashing into the last saw blades will cause the Brainlet Wojak meme to appear.
- There are male genitalia hidden above the lower slope at 85% in Goobfrudla's part.
- Oblivion used to be the hardest level beaten by any member of The Gang, as npesta beat it on 14 February 2023. It has since been surpassed by Technical's completion of Edge of Destiny, which has in turn been passed by other completions.
- In Update 2.2, RobTop patched the ball-ceiling bug, making Oblivion impossible to beat. It was later fixed.
- Oblivion has an unofficial upcoming sequel called Blossom, which is set to place within the Top 10 of the Demonlist, once verified and rated.[3] It is currently in development, with the entire layout completed and some parts being decorated.[4]
- hot rod is considered the sequel to Oblivion, which started from a joke layout level.
- The placement of Between Duality on 13 June 2026 pushed Oblivion out of the Top 100 of the Demonlist.
