Description
[edit | edit source]Note: Percentages on this page assume the player has not skipped the opening cutscene and is avoiding the coin route.
Work in progress - to be added soon
User coins
[edit | edit source]Abducted contains a single user coin.
- At 10%, there is a screen with the phrase 'ALIENS ARE REAL!!!' displayed, next to a vertical screen with a randomly generated 3-digit number. This number ranges from 0 to 999 inclusive and serves as the player's target score. The target score changes with every attempt.
- When the player reaches the rhythm game at 34%, they must score points exactly equal to their target score. Once accomplished, the player must make a light jump as the robot at 64% to descend below the main route at 65% and approach a yellow gravity portal. If the player has not achieved the exact target score, an alien construction worker will raise the portal out of reach, continuing the level as normal. Otherwise, the player flips gravity, allowing them to enter a set of minecarts while upside down as the UFO, leading to the coin.
- If the target score is not exactly achieved, the construction worker will state that the player has not 'got the nummers right', before giving the hint that 'Aliens are real'. It refers to the large screen at 10%.
- If the player attempts to enter the minecarts without flipping gravity, a series of red pads above them will cause the player to crash.
Gameplay
[edit | edit source]Trivia
[edit | edit source]- Abducted uses three songs and three sound effects (SFXs).
- Abducted was created for the Space Gauntlet Contest, which it went on to win.
- After the results of the contest were announced, Abducted, as well as its creator vegtam and music artist Synthion, received harsh criticism and death threats from vocal members of the community, citing that the level's first-place finish was undeserved.
- A prominent example involved creator Arclia, who decried Abducted as a 's**t-a**' level, which she would not wish for her works to be compared to, despite vegtam citing Next Cab Soon as one of his inspirations for the level. She apologized to vegtam shortly afterwards.
- As a consequence of unwarranted death threats against her, Synthion, co-creator of the original music track for the level, announced on 8 April 2025 that she would be removing her music from Newgrounds. She would do so by the end of the month.
- After Synthion removed the original music track, MrKoolTrix was commissioned to create a replacement music track for the level, leading to the creation of 'Space Party'.
- When Abducted was updated with its new music track, all uses of the song ID 831502 were changed to 'Space Party', replacing all uses of 'Galactic' across the entire game. The former's original Newgrounds ID is 1537186.
- 'Galactic' is still used in the level unless the player hits a toggle orb at 5.5%. This orb switches the music to 'Space Party' at 19% on every attempt until the player exits the level.
- This makes Abducted one of the few Gauntlet levels to use audio that is unavailable on Newgrounds.
- When Abducted was updated with its new music track, all uses of the song ID 831502 were changed to 'Space Party', replacing all uses of 'Galactic' across the entire game. The former's original Newgrounds ID is 1537186.
- If the four clicks required to turn the pages of the comic at the end of the level are ignored, it is possible to complete the level with only seven total clicks. It was first achieved by Phalexx GD.[1]
