Ocean Rush is a 2.1 Medium Demon mega-collaboration level hosted by Serponge and co-hosted by Disp and Rawin. Verified by Viprin on 5 May 2021 and published on 7 May 2021,[1] it is the sequel to City Rush, venturing through a variety of underwater-themed locations, including coral reefs, a sunken train station, and dark, glowy caves. It is the fourth level in the Water Gauntlet.

Rawin created an animation for the level, which shows the connection between City Rush and Ocean Rush. The animation takes place after the events of City Rush, with the main character escaping the train. After reading a note that says Lumpy took their map, the city collapses, and the main character falls into the ocean below. They are greeted by a few fish who punch the main character, then transition to the level.

Description

[edit | edit source]
  • 0-6% (100foxes): Ocean Rush begins with the player falling from the sky into 100foxes's part. The part contains sloped structures, moving glowing spikes, and pufferfish, which will cause the player to crash if touched. After a short cube section, the player must dodge two pufferfish as a ball before entering another cube section. The part ends with a ship section, followed by a mini-ship section where the player must hit two trigger orbs in quick succession.
  • 7-13% (Thomartin): Thomartin's part begins with a short cube section before a short UFO section. Next is a mini-cube section with some staircase-like gameplay. The part ends with a ship section where the player must hit a yellow orb and hit a few orbs as a cube.
  • 14-18% (Subwoofer): As the player enters Subwoofer's part, which resembles the ruins of an underwater temple, the gameplay slows down for a slow spider section followed by a few cube jumps. After a short automatic segment, the player enters a mini-UFO section where they must hold down a dash orb to teleport into an area with spikes lining the floor and ceiling. The player then becomes a mini-cube and must make a few jumps, go past a statue of Subwoofer's original character, Bloof, and jump into a short automatic segment with gravity portals.
  • 19-25% (Presta + 100foxes): After falling from Subwoofer's part, the player arrives at Presta and 100foxes's part, a mini-cube section where they must jump on top of sloped platforms. The part is a colourful, abstract take on the bottom of the ocean floor, filled with structures composed of squares in blue and green hues. The part ends with several yellow orbs that the player must hit early to avoid missing one.
  • 26-32% (flash): flash's part is themed around an abandoned sunken subway station located under the city, with abandoned, wrecked trains and broken windows, with ruin-styled structures. The player enters the station after jumping over a spike as a mini-cube. They enter a short mini-ship section where they must avoid spikes by flying close to the middle and changing altitude slightly to avoid the three spikes. They then enter a mini-cube section where they must platform across the station's ruins and atop trains, and hit some orbs when prompted. The player then enters a short mini-ball section where they pass a neon sign displaying flash's name. After going back into a mini-cube section, the player must hit a red orb out of a train to hit a trigger orb, opening a gate in front of them.
  • 33-40% (Rawin): Rawin's part takes place in a bright and colourful city. After leaving the train station, the player becomes normal size and must platform through the city, avoiding floating obstacles and hitting orbs quickly. They then become mini as they must hit more orbs, entering a short mini-ship section. After another mini-cube section, the player jumps on a red orb and lands on an orca, which takes them above.
  • 41-46% (Nemphis + flash + Rawin): Nemphis's part (with help from flash and Rawin) takes place slightly above the water, with platforms bobbing up and down and moving waves in the background. The part begins with a mini-robot, followed by a mini-cube section where the player must platform across elevated platforms throughout both sections. They then enter a mini-ship part with gravity portals, going in and out of the water to dodge floating obstacles. They fall back underwater after going through a cube portal.
  • 47-53% (Darwin): As the player falls from the previous part, they enter a colourful underwater cave created by Darwin. The part begins with a short robot section where the player must jump onto some pillars and hit a dash orb. They then enter an asymmetrical ball dual section that is generally easy except for a timing where the player must carefully go between some spikes and hold down on a dash orb. After entering a cube section, the player falls to the ocean floor and must jump over glowing spikes. The gameplay slows down to normal speed as Darwin's part ends.
  • 54-60% (Disp + TheDevon + Lumpy + koolboom): This part, mainly created by Disp with some other details made by the other three creators, resembles a darker ocean area with a dark, moving seaweed effect covering the bottom of the screen. The player, staying as a cube from the end of Darwin's part, must carefully platform their way through by hitting orbs. The part has a bubble gimmick that automatically carries the player through some gaps in the gameplay, allowing the player to jump once before the bubble breaks.
  • 61-67% (Jenkins): After making an input when Disp's part ends, the player gets launched into a long robot section. They must carefully jump onto the floating structures and hit the orbs, as many of them will cause them to crash. At the end of Jenkins's part, the player goes into a cube portal and must quickly hit several yellow orbs.
  • 68-75% (Ferdefunky): Ferdefunky's part takes place in a bright underwater city with a red and purple structure design and glowing green blocks. The part begins with a simple cube section, followed by a short mini-ball section. After a simple mini-cube section where the player can use the arrows to guide them, there is a short wave section where they must slide on the ceiling. Upon entering another cube section and hitting a couple of orbs, the player falls downward.
  • 76-85% (DavJT + Serponge): After leaving Ferdefunky's part, the player falls into the interior of what appears to be a large underwater tunnel with fish and crabs around the edges. The player enters a long ship section where they must avoid spiked coral obstacles and hit trigger orbs to deactivate lasers that will cause the player to crash if they fly into them. At the end of DavJT and Serponge's part, the player must hit a red orb, then several green orbs in sync with the song, and finally hold down a dash orb.
  • 86-100% (Arb + Grax, End Screen): As the player holds down on the dash orb, they emerge into a large open area (still inside the tunnel) where they stay for a short time before the end screen begins. An animation appears of the level's logo, with the creators' names spinning, and a city in the background. The screen then goes black, and an animation of coloured pixels slowly moving to form the SpegCorp logo (the name given to the team behind the Rush series) plays. The level then ends.

User coins

[edit | edit source]

Ocean Rush contains three user coins.

  • To collect the first coin, during the mini-ship section in flash's part, there are two signs: one with an arrow upward saying 'To City' and one with an arrow downward saying 'To Dizzying Depths Out of Order'. While the player cannot go downward as the path is blocked, they can go upward toward the city, entering a short cube section decorated in the style of Shocksidian's part in City Rush, further supporting the connection between the two levels. The alternate path is harder than the normal path. They must then jump into a mini-ball section that takes them above the normal path's section in the same game-mode. Here, they run along a train and must quickly switch gravity to narrowly grab the first coin from within the wheels of the train before it speeds past the player. The player then needs to return to the normal path by stepping on some glass on the floor and falling back into the normal mini-ball section.
  • To collect the second coin, at around 55%, the player can narrowly jump between some floating spikes above to enter a bubble earlier than the normal path. They can then jump off of it early and make some timings below, hitting some orbs to collect the second coin at 57% and return to the main path.
  • The third and final coin is the easiest in the level. At the beginning of Ferdefunky's part, the player can jump on the blocks above to activate a jellyfish, which will move it underneath the normal path at 73%. The player can fall onto it and use it as a blue pad, which will take them to the coin located above the following cube section on the normal path.

Trivia

[edit | edit source]
  • flash's part contains some secrets.
    • By hitting the first cube portal around the top, the player can fall into the train below. Here, they can hit an invisible blue orb and make a series of tight timings to jump over the yellow portal that is normally gone through after the black orb. Some text will appear, saying 'crouton.net'. Putting the text into a URL sends the player to a website containing nothing but a small image of a crouton, a type of fried bread.
    • A QR code appears briefly when taking the coin route. The code leads to a video of the results from a 'fishe contest' hosted by Rawin, where people in the Ocean Rush server shared photos of fish.
  • The player originally could access a secret way by flying over the cube portal at the end of Nemphis's part, allowing them to fly over the rest of the level. This secret way was patched out in an update.
  • DavJT used an image of his part for an April Fools' Day bait video, claiming that it was of Serponge's part in 'CraZy IV'.
  • The first trigger orb in DavJT and Serponge's part appears to be required to hit to deactivate the first laser. However, the player can avoid hitting the trigger orb as the first laser has no hitbox. It is most likely unintentional.
