Primary Maze is a 1.6/1.7 Insane Demon level by Centuple, published on 1 June 2014. The level heavily focuses on memory and was once one of the hardest memory Demons upon release. Nowadays, it is generally considered one of the easiest Insane Demons. It is one of the first rated levels to be over two minutes long, extending far beyond the song length.

Description

  • 0-11%: Primary Maze begins with a tricky cube section containing hard memory and timings.
  • 11-17%: Following this is a tricky ship sequence with more memory parts, albeit not considered as hard as the first part.
  • 17-20%: Now, the player sees a flashing light background and a part where they have to jump through fake spikes and hit a jump orb.
  • 20-35%: The level moves on to the next puzzle, requiring mostly memory but also containing some hard timings.
  • 35-37%: Next, the player must remember which ball portals they must jump, as they will die if they jump over a specific one of them.
  • 37-39%: Next puzzle comes.
  • 39-52%: Then comes a ball part with a few tricky timings, but mostly memory again.
  • 52-61%: More memorisation before the next drop.
  • 61-68%: The speed changes into triple-speed, and the level introduces pathways with difficult timings during the parts where the player needs to jump up, making this part memory-based, but with the skill needed as well.
  • 68-74%: Then, a text saying 'Finish? NO!!' appears. The player must be aware that the question mark will kill them if they don't jump over it.
  • 74-90%: This next part has a rather hard jump at 76%. The player also needs to memorise two orb sequences.
  • 90-100%: Then, a part containing black blocks on a black background is introduced, requiring the player to memorise what to do because of the blocked vision. Then, the creator's name shows up, with three separate spikes the player needs to jump over.

Trivia

  • Primary Maze was the hardest level to be legitimately beaten at the time, although hacked levels like Silent Club were rated. Therefore, it was not recognised as such until much later.
  • Despite being over two minutes long, Primary Maze is labelled Long on the servers due to being uploaded before the XL length was added in Update 1.9.
  • There is a remade version created in Update 1.7 with an extended length.
  • The unextended version of the level was rated, but it received only a star rating.
  • Aside from the 1.7 background and ground, Primary Maze only uses Update 1.6 features in its first half, as the level was started in that update.
  • A sequel known as SuperLative Maze was in development, but it was never finished. Only a few seconds of the level are confirmed to exist.
