Retro Circles is a 2.0-2.2 Easy Demon level by Nacho21, published on 16 November 2015.[1] It is a retro-styled remake of Nine Circles that integrates visual glitches, scanlines, and other effects.
Description
[edit | edit source]- 0-13%: Retro Circles begins with a simple half-speed cube sequence, where the player must be careful to synchronize their timing to avoid the spikes.
- 13-26%: Next, the player enters a normal-speed ship sequence that can be easily cleared without much effort because of the wide spaces between structures.
- 26-47%: Then, the player enters a simple ball sequence, requiring the player to time the orbs correctly to avoid hitting any spikes. After that comes an auto cube sequence that closely resembles Nine Circles.
- 47-88%: The music drops, and the player enters a triple-speed wave sequence. It seems easy at first because of the large spaces and lack of gravity portals. However, it becomes much harder because of the abundant speed and size portals. The player must memorize the correct timings to avoid crashing. The easiest part of the level is perhaps the dual-mini-wave segment, a classic 'ingredient' of Nine Circles levels.
- 88-100%: Afterwards, the player enters one final cube sequence similar to the first one, but it is slightly harder because of numerous double-spikes and clusters of orbs. The level ends with text from Nacho21 thanking some players (ToshDeluxe, Rulas, Synder YT, and others).
User coins
[edit | edit source]Retro Circles contains three user coins.
- The first coin is located in the ball sequence at 29%, requiring the player to skip a pink pad to travel down to a platform with the coin to collect. They must use the X-marked blue orb to return to the normal path.
- The second coin is located in the wave sequence at 49%, requiring the player to take the tight lower path to collect it.
- The third and final coin is free to obtain at the last jump of the level.
Gameplay
[edit | edit source]Trivia
[edit | edit source]- In the final cube sequence, Nacho21 signed a double-spike when GuitarHeroStyles and Alvarofuen crashed at it.
- CrisPy Dash, the creator of Fear Me, was inspired by Retro Circles and created another Nine Circles Retro, Screamroom Circles, but he deleted it after some time.
- Retro Circles introduced the 'Tearing Nine Circles' effect.
- Retro Circles was nerfed heavily, dropping from a Medium Demon to an Easy Demon.
