royal flush is a 2.1 Hard level by Platnuu, published on 10 July 2017. It is a casino-themed art level set in Las Vegas.

Description

[edit | edit source]

Underlined sections are automatic and require no inputs.

  • 0-27%: royal flush opens with scenery of a Las Vegas skyline. The foreground contains shadow art of bushes and palm trees. At the same time, the background depicts several skyscrapers, a fountain, two bars (one labelled 'bar' and the other featuring a neon martini glass sign), and two casinos (one with an 8-ball sign and another with a light-up 'CASINO' sign). A blimp flying overhead lights up the phrases 'GO' and 'Golden Knights'. At 13%, the scene fades to a remake of the 'Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas' sign, before the screen goes black and neon text appears reading 'Welcome to Vegas!'
  • 27-44%: After the screen flashes white, the player appears as a ship in a green felt area resembling a casino table. They must dodge playing cards and rotating poker chips. After passing a Blackjack table where five cards are dealt, the long rail of a pool (billiards) table slides in at 38.25% from the top of the screen. The player is now on a billiards table and must avoid an assortment of billiard balls. Near the end of the section, a pool cue strikes the cue ball and pockets the 8-ball, requiring quick avoidance of the moving balls. Successfully manoeuvring through the balls leads the player to a prompt reading 'A cube walks into a bar...' as the screen fades.
  • 44-59.75%: The player appears in 'Plat's Bar', a purple tavern with two patrons and shot glasses littered across the counter. Gameplay requires the player to jump as a cube whenever they approach a red exclamation mark. Some shot glasses contain small gold coins; collecting them has no effect, as does knocking over any of the shot glasses.
  • 59.75-69.75%: Following another dip to black, the player reappears as a UFO on the green felt background. Aside from circles of rotating card suits, the only other hazards are a set of five cards and a large hand. The cards are dealt alongside the appearance of the word 'Draw!', and the hand appears when the player takes their 75-chip bet back.
  • 69.75-93%: With all gameplay concluded, the player encounters a slot machine labelled 'Coin SLOTS'. It contains three reels, each with three symbols: a 7, a pair of cherries, and the BAR icon. The slot machine spins three times; its outcome cannot harm the player. The player passes stacks of poker chips, cigarettes in ashtrays, rings of dice, cards, green bottles, and patterns of the four card suits; none of these objects is hazardous.
  • 93-100%: The player appears in front of a large sign reading 'R♠YAL FL♥SH', with two suits replacing the vowels 'O' and 'A'. Behind the top of the sign, a royal flush in spades is spread out. The sign and cards fade out as the level ends.

User coins

[edit | edit source]

royal flush contains two user coins.

  • The first coin can be found within the billiards half of the first gameplay sequence. At 40.5%, the player must fly as a ship into the centre pocket of the pool table. They will land in a ball-return chute with three balls inside (the 5, 6, and 7-balls). Dodging the three balls in the tight corridor will grant the player the coin at 45%, then teleport them back to the main route at 47.5%. This route skips part of the Plat's Bar section, and the player remains as a ship while inside the chute.
  • The second coin must be won from the slot machine; it is completely luck-based. To earn the coin, at least one of the three pulls must result in three identical symbols appearing. If all three symbols match at least once, the coin drops from the right side of the slot machine, allowing the player to collect it. The player must stay on the ground to collect the coin; otherwise, it will slide past them and become unreachable.
    • Each pull of the slot machine has a 1 in 9 probability of success. This gives the player approximately a 29.8% chance of winning the coin over the three allotted pulls.

Trivia

[edit | edit source]
  • The level's title, royal flush, refers to the highest possible five-card poker hand, which consists of a 10, Jack, Queen, King, and Ace—all of an identical suit.
    • Some comments joked that the level's name referred to a toilet function or brand, which Platnuu sheepishly denied.
  • There are two Easter eggs in the bar section:
    • Knocking over the shot glass at 52.75% will make Pablo, a large cube cocktail mixer, lower his sunglasses and furrow his eyebrows in annoyance.
    • If the player jumps on the second patron (at 50.5%), the patron will throw a glass at the player. The player must jump at 54.5% to avoid the attack.
      • If the player dodges the patron's attack, they can pick up the glass and throw it back at the patron at 57.75%.
      • An impact burst (when the player hits the patron) appears; however, it will always flash even if the player does not pick up the glass or jump on the patron.
  • Despite referencing the team, royal flush was released before the Vegas Golden Knights played their first game.
  • ChaSe and Danke assisted Platnuu in the creation of the second coin.

Casino details

  • A total of 24 cards appear within the level, consisting of 17 unique card faces.
    • The cards that appear are:
      • 6♠, 9♦, 7♣, 7♠, and 7♦ appear beneath the gold "Welcome" sign.
      • 10♥, 7♠, 9♦, 3♣, and 8♥ appear on the blackjack table.
      • 8♠, 7♣, 7♦, 4♥, and 10♣ appear during the draw.
      • 8♣ and 4♥ each appear twice while the slot machine is spinning.
      • 10♠, J♠, Q♠, K♠, and A♠ appear near the end, forming the titular royal flush.
    • Only two values are not represented: there are no 2s or 5s.
    • The most common card face is 4♥, appearing three times. 7♣, 7♦, 7♠, 8♣, and 9♦ each appear twice, and the remaining cards appear once.
  • The corner pip on every spade card is upside-down.
  • The three face cards do not feature designs; instead, they are replaced with blue rectangular outlines with a single spade in the top-left corner.
  • All fifteen object balls appear during the slot machine section, arranged in a triangle such that the numbers in each row are greater than those in the row below. The bottom row ascends from left to right, while all others ascend from right to left.
  • Ten pool balls appear during the pool table section.
    • The 2, 3, 7, 8, 9, 10, 14, and cue balls are visible on the table.
    • The 5, 6, and 7-balls can be found in the ball-return chute.
    • The 7-ball is the only ball to appear twice; given that it is moving inside the chute, it was presumably potted through the corner pocket near the end of the chute section.
  • The red poker chip rotating in a ring at 29.5% has its value (5) mirrored.
  • Within the rotating rings of suits, the clubs in the outer rings are rotated 180°.
  • The rings of dice alternate between red and white dice, each with up to three visible faces. The white dice display 1, 3, and 5, while the red dice display 1, 2, and 4.
  • Within the two dice rings, there is only one red die whose three faces are visible simultaneously. One pip is missing from its 2-face, leaving two of its visible faces showing a 1.
    • No 6s are visible on any die.
