The Hell Zone is a 2.0 Extreme Demon collaboration level by 1234, Koreaqwer, Ryan LC, and Cyclic, initially hack-verified by Cyclic, and later legitimately verified and published by Stormfly.[1] It is a remake of the 1.4 level of the same name by Sohn0924, and is part of Stormfly's Hell Series remakes. Although it was deleted before getting rated, it is generally considered a 'Hell Demon' due to its extreme difficulty. The level was buffed and nerfed a couple of times before Cyclic confessed to cheating and had the level deleted. On 2 August 2016, Stormfly verified The Hell Zone, but it remained unrated until February 2017.

The Hell Zone's extreme difficulty is due to it containing a fair deal of quadruple-spikes at normal speed as well as invisible portals and orbs, among others. Its decoration is similar to that of Necropolis, featuring many Necropolis-style crosses, and also contains tons of incredibly difficult timings that Necropolis is infamous for. The level received some criticism for its deemed unfun gameplay.

Description

[edit | edit source]
  • 0-23% (1234): The Hell Zone begins immediately with a difficult jump over a triple-spike. The player must hold down the button almost immediately, as a pink orb is hidden in the ground before the triple-spike. A Low Detail Mode trigger is located immediately after the triple-spike and can be used by not jumping over it. Next is a difficult cube section with continuous timings and small quadruple-spikes. It transitions from ball to cube and vice versa, followed by an intricate cube section where the thorns are disguised as decorative fire, then the player jumps over the thorns, above which mirror portals appear. This segment ends with jumping over several spiked structures.
  • 23-50% (Koreaqwer): Next, the player enters a ball segment. In the beginning, the player must 'jump' right before entering the ball portal. The figure of a man with a trident and horns appears. Here begins the main part of the level, a lengthy cube section. Oddly enough, for hell-themed levels, neon effects are present here. This section also features several invisible transitions, small quadruple-spikes, and moving obstacles at 37-40%. At 41%, the player must jump over a set of quadruple-yellow pads.
  • 50-74% (Ryan LC): Afterwards, the player transitions into a mirrored cube section with several red cross decorations, a couple of jumps across pillars in anti-gravity and a few tricky timing-based yellow orb inputs. Following this, the player enters a small, one-block-wide gap between two thin pillars and falls onto yellow pads as the level fades to black. Note that at ~53%, the player must jump once to make it onto the thin pillar, and then shortly after, at ~54%, jump from the edge of the pillar to make it to the next section. Simply dropping down onto the pads will not work. Afterwards, the music subsides slightly, and the player enters a highly detailed mirrored-ship sequence with a background of chains and pulsating objects. There are several gravity portals and a few tight spaces throughout this section, followed by a cube section (accessible via an invisible cube portal and a blue mirror portal) with unusual gameplay. Given the timings, the player must carefully 'jump' to avoid falling and hitting the ground spikes while avoiding colliding with the few spikes above the player. Shooting stars appear in the background twice. The beat of the music becomes normal again, and after clearing a short mirrored ball segment with a few tricky timings, the figure of a man appears again.
  • 74-100% (Cyclic): Following this is a tricky cube section with some more timings and decoration resembling a devil at 75%. Then, grave cross decorations appear again, and the player must switch gravity while jumping over single spikes before jumping across a large spike pit using darkened yellow orbs. Here, the player can also see falling stars in the background as the music beat grows. Note that the player must skip the first orb in this section, or they will not be able to make it to the next section. Then, there is a narrow-spaced ball segment with black cloud decorations, grave cross decorations and large spike obstacles. Afterwards, there is a difficult mirrored ship sequence featuring tight spaces to manoeuvre through, with little room to execute. Following this is one final ball segment with more cross decorations and narrow spaces, then a cave-themed ship sequence with a couple of gravity portals, tight spaces and a bunch of torch-like decorations. Afterwards, the player enters an auto-cube section showing the text 'The H e l l Zone Exit', as well as the names of all four creators, with a line running through each. Finally, the player is launched by one final yellow pad as the level comes to an end.

Confession

[edit | edit source]

'I used verify hack to verify The Hell Zone. Both 1st and 2nd version. For the video, I used 4 cuts. One at Koreaqwer's first part (the transition), one at 31%, one at 36%, and one at the end of the level (just before the icon disappears) (this was to make look like verified with the same attempt as the beginning) Now I verified the 3rd version legit but I don't have a video cause I gave my laptop to my sister and I can only use a computer which all my family members use it and I can't record it cause of lag. You don't have to believe me because I don't deserve it. I'm very sorry that I tried to trick all geometry dash players and I'm especially sorry to my collab members: 1234, Koreaqwer, and Ryan LC. I had only 3 days left till my sister takes my laptop so I tried to verify in 3 days but I couldn't so I used verify hack...'

Trivia

[edit | edit source]
  • The Hell Zone was placed at #11 on the Demonlist on 12 February 2017, above Conical Depression and below Hatred.
    • This addition pushed Asymmetry into the Legacy List.
  • The original version of The Hell Zone is regarded as the eighth instance of the hardest rated level in the game's history.
    • However, worth mentioning is that the original Demonlist was started in 2015 by the player loogiah,[2] meaning all levels created before 2015 were not Top 1 for the simple reason of the list determining the hardest levels in the game not existing at the time.
  • The Hell Zone is significantly harder on 60FPS than 144FPS due to extreme timings.
  • Cyclic claimed to have verified The Hell Zone after over 18,000 attempts.
    • However, Cyclic later confessed to having hacked The Hell Zone, along with his supposed verification of Sonic Wave.
      • At 1:16 in Cyclic's hacked verification video for The Hell Zone, the figure disappears for a split second.
  • Stormfly verified the official version, which is mostly unnerfed. However, Cyclic's part was slightly nerfed from the copy that Cyrillic reuploaded under a fake Cyclic account.
  • Luqualizer was the first victor of The Hell Zone, followed by GoodSmile and Mullsy as the second and third victors, respectively.
  • The Hell Zone was the only level in the Hell series with user coins until Stormfly removed them in a bug-fix update.
  • Stormfly legitimately verified the original version by Sohn0924 on 29 August 2020.[3]
  • On 24 October 2021, when The Hell Zone was at #148 and about to be pushed into the Legacy List, the level suddenly moved to #107. This change is likely due to the level's inaccessibility at higher refresh rates; it was adjusted to 60FPS, causing inconsistencies at higher refresh rates.
    • An example was a frame-perfect orb jump at the beginning of the level on higher refresh rates, such as 120/144/240FPS.
      • However, The Hell Zone received an update, nerfing the jump to no longer be frame-perfect on high refresh rates.
  • The placement of Gustavo Fring on 6 July 2022 pushed The Hell Zone into the Legacy List of the Demonlist.
