The Hell Zone is a 2.0 Extreme Demon collaboration created and originally hack-verified by Cyclic and later legitimately verified and published by Stormfly. It is a remake of the 1.2 level of the same name by Sohn0924. Although it got deleted before it was rated, it is generally considered a "Hell Demon" due to its extreme difficulty. The level was buffed and nerfed a couple of times before Cyclic exposed himself and had the level deleted. On August 2, 2016, Stormfly verified The Hell Zone legitimately, but it was unrated until February 2017.
The level's extreme difficulty is due to it containing a fair deal of quadruple spikes at regular speed as well as invisible portals and orbs, among others. Its decoration is similar to that of Necropolis, featuring many Necropolis-style crosses, and also contains tons of incredibly difficult timings that Necropolis is infamous for. This level is part of Stormfly's extended Hell Series.
Gameplay
- 0-22% (1234): The level begins with a difficult jump over a set of triple spikes. The player must hold down at the very beginning, as a pink orb is hidden in front of them. There is also a Low Detail Mode trigger located right after the triple spikes. Next is a difficult cube section with continuous timings and a set of small quadruple spikes. It transitions from ball to cube and vice versa, followed by an intricate cube section, where the thorns are disguised as decorative fire, and then jumping over the thorns, above which there will be mirror portals. This segment ends with jumping over several spiked structures.
- 23-49% (Koreaqwer): Next, the player enters a ball segment. In the beginning, the player needs to "jump" right before entering the ball portal. The figure of a man with a trident and horns appears. Here begins the main part of the level, a lengthy cube section. Oddly enough, for hell-themed levels, neon effects are present here. This section also features a bunch of invisible transitions, small quadruple spikes, and moving obstacles at 37-40%. At 41%, there is a set of quadruple yellow pads the player must jump over.
- 50-73% (Ryan LC): Afterward, the player transitions into a mirrored cube section with several red cross decorations, a couple of jumps across pillars in anti-gravity, and a few tricky timing-based yellow orb inputs. Following this, the player goes into a small one-block-wide gap between two thin pillars and falls onto yellow pads as the level fades to black. Note that at ~53%, the player must jump once to make it onto the thin pillar, and then shortly after, at ~54%, jump from the edge of the pillar to make it to the next section. Simply dropping down onto the pads will not work. Afterward, the music dies down a little, and the player enters a highly detailed mirrored ship sequence with a background in which there are chains and pulsating objects. There are several gravity portals and a few tight spaces throughout this section, followed by a cube section (via an invisible cube portal and blue mirror portal) with strange gameplay. Observing the timings, the player needs to carefully "jump" so you do not fall and hit the spikes on the ground while also not colliding with the few spikes located above the player while shooting stars appear in the background twice. The beat of the music becomes normal again, and after clearing a short mirrored ball segment with a few tricky timings, a figure of a man appears again.
- 74-100% (Cyclic): Following this is a tricky cube section with some more timings and decoration resembling a devil at 75%. Then, grave cross decorations appear again, and the player must switch gravity while jumping over single spikes before jumping across a large spike pit using darkened yellow orbs. Here, the player can also see falling stars in the background as the music beat grows. Note that the player must skip the first orb here section, or they will not be able to make it to the next section. Then, there is a narrow-spaced ball segment with black cloud decorations, grave cross decorations, and large spike obstacles. Afterward is a difficult mirrored ship sequence featuring tight spaces to maneuver around, with little room to do so. Following this is one final ball segment with more cross decorations and narrow spaces, then a cave-themed ship sequence with a couple of gravity portals, tight spaces, and a bunch of torch-like decorations. Afterward, the player enters an auto cube section showing text saying, "The H e l l Zone Exit," as well as the names of all four creators, with a line going through each of them. Finally, the player is launched by one final yellow pad as the level ends.
Confession
"I used verify hack to verify The Hell Zone. Both 1st and 2nd version. For the video, I used 4 cuts. One at Koreaqwer's first part (the transition), one at 31%, one at 36%, one at the end of the level (just before the icon disappears) (this was to make look like verified with the same attempt as the beginning) Now I verified the 3rd version legit but I don't have a video cause I gave my laptop to my sister and I can only use a computer which all my family members use it and I can't record it cause of lag.
You don't have to believe me because I don't deserve it. I'm very sorry that I tried to trick all geometry dash players and I'm especially sorry to my collab members: 1234, Koreaqwer, and Ryan LC. I had only 3 days left till my sister takes my laptop so I tried to verify in 3 days but I couldn't so I used verify hack..."
Trivia
- The password for the level is 753159.
- The level contains 29,140 objects.
- The level is 1m 37s in length.
- The level was initially placed at #11 on the Geometry Dash Demonlist on February 12, 2017, above Conical Depression (#12) and below Hatred (#10).
- This addition to the Demonlist knocked Asymmetry into the Legacy List.
- It is currently #46 on the Low Refresh Rate Mobile Demonlist, above RASH (#47) and below The Hell Origin (#45).
- This level used a near-impossible level with the same name for the layout, created by Sohn0924. This level is still available to play today.
- It took Cyclic over 18,000 attempts to "verify" this level.
- However, Cyclic claimed that The Hell Zone and Sonic Wave were hacked.
- At 1:16, the figure disappears for a split second.
- However, Cyclic claimed that The Hell Zone and Sonic Wave were hacked.
- Stormfly verified the official version, which is mostly unnerfed. However, Cyclic's part was slightly nerfed from the copy that was reuploaded by Cyrillic under a fake Cyclic account.
- Stormfly legitimately verified the original version by Sohn0924 on August 29, 2020.[1]
- This level is significantly harder on 60 FPS than 144 FPS due to extreme timings.
- Luqualizer was the first victor of this level.
- It is widely debated whether the level belongs to The Hell Series remakes Stormfly hosted or not. While Stormfly says such, the level is very different from the self-host remakes that were to follow.
- Many people criticized the level for its unfun gameplay. Because of this, not many people played this level due to inconsistency. Those players often believe that the gameplay is not too bad but a bit unbalanced and possibly underrated.
- It is the only level in the Hell series with user coins.
- The original version of The Hell Zone is the sixth former Top 1 in the game's history.
- On October 24, 2021, when The Hell Zone was at #148 and about to be knocked into the Legacy List, the level was suddenly moved up to #107. This is likely due to the level's inaccessibility on higher FPS as the level is very adjusted to 60 FPS, causing it to have bugs on higher FPS.
- An example is a frame-perfect orb jump at the beginning of the level on higher FPS, such as 120/144/240 FPS.
- The placement of Gustavo Fring on July 6, 2022, knocked The Hell Zone into the Legacy List of the Demonlist.
