Trek
Trek is a 2.1 Epic-rated XL Medium Demon created and published by OliSW. The level has a nature theme, taking place in a rainforest, and is known for its gimmick where the player becomes the ship gamemode whenever underwater. It is the second level of the Water Gauntlet, following Submerged by Subwoofer.
Gameplay
- 0-7%: The level starts out with the player traversing through a rainforest during the day. This section is a normal-sized cube section that contains multiple platforms and orbs, as well as flies scattered throughout the air and many layers of trees in the background.
- 8-15%: This section is similar to the previous, except the player transforms into a mini-robot and contains slightly tighter jumps. The foreground details, such as the leaves or vines, start to move lower into the player’s view.
- 16%-22%: During this section, the player becomes a 0.5x speed mini-cube and reaches a much more open area where the sky is much more visible. The jumps during this segment are synced with the song as the platforms pulse a brighter color to the music. This is also the first instance of water in the level, and once the player enters the water after hitting a black orb, they will become the ship gamemode in order to “swim”. There are fish that jump out of the water to act as a tutorial on how to exit the water. Towards the end of this section, the player continues to go deeper into the water instead of jumping out like before.
- 22%-34%: During this underwater section, the player will then become a normal-sized ship at 3x speed, and will need to dodge the terrain, glowing algae, and sawblades. At the end of this segment, there are two chains of green orbs synced to the music, in which the player will need to hold afterwards to exit the water.
- 34%-42%: Once leaving the water, the gameplay is a normal speed mini-cube, and will then be split into two paths. The bottom route has many lakes of water for the player to go through, as well as multiple buildings and hills to traverse. The top route has the player jump over the aforementioned buildings and a giant water wheel. Eventually the two paths reconnect, and it is possible to go from one path to another during the segment.
- 42%-51%: This section is a 2x speed mini-robot, where there are multiple black orbs chained into water wheels. During this part, the level slowly becomes nighttime. This is also the part that contains this level’s sole user coin.
- 51%-57%: The player then becomes a 0.5x mini-cube once again, and jumps both in and out of the water similar to 16%-22%. The aesthetic during this section is much more dark, including fireflies and raindrops, foreshadowing the upcoming rainstorm in the next part. The player uses a pink dash orb to ascend to the sky.
- 58%-72%: After reaching the top of the rainforest, the gameplay consists of a 4x speed robot section containing many small jumps and orbs. The rainstorm has also grown in size, as the lightning pulses the sky to the music.
- 73%-87%: The player then falls out of the trees and onto multiple rocks in the ocean, where the gameplay is very sloped. In the background, the moon is reflecting off of the water.
- 87%-95%: In this final section, the tight jumps and platforms return one last time as the gameplays slows down, and speeds up again to the music. In the final jump, the speed slows down yet again as the player arrives at a campfire.
- 95%-100%: After arriving at the fire, the level’s title appears at the bottom of the screen, as the letters flicker. The endscreen shows OliSW’s logo in the bottom left corner of the screen.
