Tsuretette
Tsuretette is an 2.1 Harder level by xenoteric. It is the fifth and final level of the Portal Gauntlet. The level uses fast-paced gameplay and frequent colour changes against mostly white backgrounds. Its decoration consists of black geometric structures, patterned overlays, floating particles and circular designs.
History
[edit | edit source]A complete showcase identifying Tsuretette and its level ID was published on 5 January 2020, shortly after the level became available.[1] On 14 January, ChaSe published another showcase and described it as a near-perfect example of a modern level, specifically praising what xenoteric had produced with the editor.[2]
Tsuretette was nominated for Best Modern Level in the Geometry Dash 2020 Awards. It placed fourth with 2,772 votes, representing 10.3% of the votes cast in the category.[3]
On 3 March 2024, Tsuretette was added as the fifth and final level of the Portal Gauntlet.[4]
Description
[edit | edit source]- 0-9%: The level begins with cube gameplay in a pale blue corridor. The ground and ceiling form large zigzagging structures outlined in black, with small spikes placed along their edges. White blocks and particles move through the background while the screen alternates between blue and pink.
- 9-21%: An optional robot portal appears at 9%. The robot follows the angled ground and jumps between small platforms while the colours continue changing between blue and pink. This route leads to the first user coin. The section ends when the player enters a portal against a nearly white background.
- 21-35%: The player enters a curved tunnel surrounded by black borders. The background shifts through green, pink and orange while the player avoids saws and follows the tunnel's changing shape. Speed arrows appear during the middle of the section before the screen flashes white.
- 35-44%: The player becomes a robot in a pink area containing hexagonal patterns. The robot jumps across thin black platforms while avoiding spikes and saws. A mini portal used for the second user coin appears at 40%. The section concludes with a transition into a dark passage.
- 44-59%: The level alternates between dark corridors and bright white areas. The player changes game modes several times and uses jump orbs while moving between narrow structures. The second user coin can be reached during a robot sequence at approximately 50%. The screen then changes to pale orange as the next section begins.
- 59-77%: The player passes through an orange and yellow corridor before entering a black-and-white section made from large angular structures. Gameplay changes into the wave, which follows narrow zigzagging passages. Two optional orbs at 71% and 73% open the route to the third user coin.
- 77-92%: The player returns to a bright environment containing large circular structures. The cube moves around and across the circles while their outlines, internal markings and surrounding particles change position. The background gradually becomes brighter until most of the decoration is obscured by white light.
- 92-100%: The playable portion ends and an outro appears. The Japanese text "連れてって" is displayed vertically on the left, with additional Japanese text on the right and a special thanks message for DIGITALIGHT near the bottom. The screen remains white as the level reaches 100%.[5]
User coins
[edit | edit source]- 17%: The player must enter the robot portal at 9%. Following the robot route leads to the coin at approximately 17%, after which the route rejoins the main path.
- 50%: The player must enter the mini portal at 40%. During the second robot sequence, the player must avoid the pink orb and make a short jump into the lower route. Remaining mini allows the player to reach the coin before returning to the normal route.
- 74%: The player must activate the optional square orbs at 71% and 73%. This opens an upper passage containing the coin during the following wave sequence.[6]
Reception
[edit | edit source]ChaSe praised Tsuretette's modern decoration and xenoteric's use of the level editor, stating that he did not expect another modern level to surpass it unless xenoteric created one himself.[2]Its nomination for Best Modern Level in the 2020 Geometry Dash Awards placed it alongside Dream Flower, Ambu and Comatose Dreamscape. Tsuretette received 2,772 votes and finished fourth.[3]
The level was later selected for the Portal Gauntlet, becoming its only Harder level and its closing entry when the Gauntlet was released in March 2024.[4]
Gameplay
[edit | edit source]Trivia
[edit | edit source]- The title is a romanisation of the Japanese phrase "連れてって", an informal form of "連れて行って" that can be translated as "take me there" or "take me with you". The level's in-game description reads "Take me there".
- The outro displays "連れてって" vertically on the left. The Japanese text on the right reads "明けましておめでとう", meaning "Happy New Year", corresponding with the level's publication in early January. [1]
- The outro also gives special thanks to DIGITALIGHT.
