Devil Vortex is a 2.0/2.1 Extreme Demon level by Rustam, hack-verified by ToshDeluxe on 21 April 2017. It is known for its difficult, fast-paced gameplay and several straight-fly and mini-wave sections with very tight spaces. It is also notoriously buggy and inconsistent—a frequent feature in Rustam's levels.

Devil Vortex is a 2.1 Hell-themed Extreme Demon created by Rustam and verified by ToshDeluxe. It currently sits at #12 on the Official Geometry Dash Demonlist, below Artificial Ascent (#11) and above Bausha Vortex (#13). It is known for very difficult fast-paced gameplay, several straight fly sections, and mimi wave sections with very tight spaces.
As the original verification was illegitimate, many people considered Sunix the level's verifier, as he was the first person to beat the level with proven legitimacy.

Gameplay
History
This level begins with a very hard slow mini ship segment where you can see a Yatagarasu. The player must straight fly to avoid being killed by the red blocks. Then, the player transitions to a very difficult mini wave section where the player must swerve between the tight spaces while controlling it though gravity portals that are very hard to see. Next, the player transitions to a slow ball section where the player must time the gravity changes carefully in order to avoid the spikes. Next, the player transitions into a x3 mini ship section where the player must avoid the sawblades and hit the orb in order to go inside the skull's mouth. Then, the player transitions into a short mini wave part through a tight space and then a mini ball section where the player must change gravity at the right places quickly. Then, the player continues back into a mini ship (upside-down) where the player must straight fly in the narrow space bwteen the spikes. Then, the player changes back into a slow normal wave where the player must straight fly thorugh a short and narrow passage between the spikes. Then, the player transitions to another short UFO passage where the player must hit the orbs carefully to avoid the spikes. Next, the player continues to a x3 speed ball section where the player must time the gravity changes accurately and hit the orbs carefully to avoid the spikes. The player turns into a x2 speed mini ball where the player must time the gravity changes and orbs accurately just as before. Then, the player turns into a slow normal cube where the player must jump through a one block passage between two spikes, which then transitions to another passage where the player must jump over two spikes, hit two blue orbs very quickly to avoid hitting the spikes, then jump over another set of two spikes again, and then the player must jump over a spike and jump again to avoid a blue jump pad trap. Then, the player continues to a section where the player switches gravity on a one-block passage through a pillar of blocks from a blue jump pad. The player must jump carefully in order to reach the next pillar without crashing into the block above them. After the player reaches the third pillar, the player transitions into a short ship section where the player must straight fly for a brief momment through a one-block passage between series of spikes. Then, the player continues to a robot section where the player must first hit a yellow orb a little late in order to reach the next platform without hitting the spike above the yellow orb. After the player reaches the next platform, the player must jump over to the next platform without hitting a spike above the player. The player then must jump across two series of two spikes above and below each other, which forces the player to jump very slightly in order to get through the hole without hitting the spikes, similar to Michigun's part in Yatagarasu. Then. the player must continue by jumping over a fading spike right after the player hits the blue jump pad. The jump must also be high enough to reach the next blue jump pad, which will allow the player to switch back to normal gravity and continue on to a wave section. When the player transitions on to a short wave section, as before, the player must straight fly across a short one-block passage in order to avoid hitting the spikes above and below. This section also briefly turns into a mini wave inside the one-block passage, which forces the player tap very fast in order to avoid the spikes, which is impossible on mobile. The player then transitions into a x3 speed ship section, where the player must straight fly between one-block passages = where then the player must hit a yellow orb right after they go inside a gravity portal (yellow portal) in order to go inside a blue portal, which turns the player back into normal gravity. Then, the player must continue and straight fly through another short one-block passage and hit a yellow orb, which also launches the player into a yellow portal and through another short one-block passage. The player then continues on to a cube section where the player must hit a orb as soon as they go inside the cube portal. The player then must hit a few more orbs to continue into a mini wave section with tight and narrow passages. Then, the player transitions into a x1 speed swing copter section, where the player must swerve their way through very tight spaces through spikes and obstacles. Then, the player switches into a wave where the player must continue to swerve their way through very tight spaces, equivelant to a one-block passage. The player then switches back and forth between wave and ship, where the player must go through a series of one-block passages. The player then goes through a wave portal with a slow speed trigger, where it shows the text "You just survived..." and then a artwork of a demon including inspired creators, the verifier (ToshDeluxe), and the end of the level.

Trivia
However, AbstractDark won the contest, so Rustam decided to use his part for a new hell-themed level—Devil Vortex. Rustam chose ToshDeluxe as the verifier of this level, who was a fairly skilled and well-known player. ToshDeluxe buffed the level to an Extreme Demon when he received it and started making some good progress in a fair amount of time, getting a record of 24-60% within a week. This montage could also be considered a 'preview' of Devil Vortex. However, because ToshDeluxe was also practising Artificial Ideology at that time, he did not make any more progress until a few weeks later.
*The level was a medium demon, but ToshDeluxe buffed it to make it extreme demon.

*Weoweoteo used his evidence from TrusTa, not from looking at the video himself.
On 26 February 2017, after the first progress video, ToshDeluxe officially started practising Devil Vortex and achieved a record of 43%, reaching the gray half-speed cube section. He also noted that it was harder than Bloodbath.
*Many players have complained about buggy (especially on 60hz) and annoying gameplay on this level. For this reason, the level has received a lot of hate and at its release, there was a lot of controversy surrounding the level (most of which has passed).

*ToshDeluxe, the verifier of this level, has gotten many hacking/cutting/auto accusations from people such as MeatiusGaming and Weoweoteo. Weoweoteo made a video about Tosh's defense video saying how he did not hack or cut the level. Weoweoteo said that the level was impossible on 60hz. ToshDeluxe said 83% on the level is nearly impossible and requires "pixel perfect" timing (Unless you have a 144hz monitor.). ToshDeluxe then made a video a day later after Weoweoteo did, talking about Weoweoteo's video that was "proof" Devil Vortex was not verified legitimately. Weoweoteo's video was removed a few days later.
On 27 March 2017, about a month after the second progress video, ToshDeluxe achieved a respectable record of 15-64%, marking a short yet accomplished run. On 21 April 2017, ToshDeluxe finally 'verified' Devil Vortex after roughly 5,000 attempts, a surprisingly low amount likely due to the short length. However, he has gotten several hacking accusations, and rumours spread out in the community due to the verification video having several lag spikes and glitches, which caused several people to believe Devil Vortex was hacked. However, ToshDeluxe managed to defend himself with points, such as stating that invisible gravity portals caused the 'strange' movement at the mini-wave section in the level, and that sawblades rotating the wrong way were going the same way before a 'cut' in the video. Eventually, ToshDeluxe would seemingly clear his name, and Devil Vortex was rated shortly afterwards.
*Many players considered this level impossible due to the first ship part and the mini wave spam near the middle of the level.

*Warning: It says “F### off” a couple times at the end so be prepared when watching the video.
On 23 July 2023, after over six years, zcylix would prove ToshDeluxe for semi-automating Devil Vortex. Unfortunately, his video did not fully explain the evidence correctly. Essentially, the key evidence was that particles emitted from the wave hit the ground or ceiling multiple times during gravity changes caused by blue pads. In contrast, when there are no gravity changes, these particles only emit the first time the wave makes contact with these surfaces. This discovery makes it the verification of a level that took the longest to confirm as illegitimate. Sunix was the first legitimate victor on 1 July 2017.
*During the first drop, the level is Rustam's Yatagarasu entry.

Description
*0-10%: Devil Vortex begins with a half-speed mini-ship sequence. It requires extreme straight-flying skills due to the very tight spaces between red obstacles. It then transitions to a mini-wave segment where the player must swerve through tight spaces and occasional gravity changes.
*10-17%: The gameplay continues with a short mini-ball sequence featuring some orb and spike timings, and the music speeds up.
*17-42%: The drop begins with a triple-speed mini-ship part requiring some straight-flying through a skull. The mini-ship then transitions into a brief mini-wave, a brief mini-ball, a brief mini-ship straight-fly section and then a half-speed wave with spam. Then, the level transitions into a short UFO part with some pink orb timings. The level regains speed and transitions into a triple-speed ball section with some ridiculously hard orb- and spike timings.
*42-59%: A half-speed, gray-coloured, tight cube section, including a demon spectating the player and limited vision starts; ridiculous timings are needed to complete this section. Then, the player changes to a robot section with the same colour and design; this part requires some small clicks and difficult timings to pass. A mini/normal wave spam continues with a monochromatic gray colour scheme,
*59-74%: When the gray fades back to red, the level transitions briefly into a dual cube. Then, it transitions into a normal-sized ship straight-fly section with yellow orbs inside of gravity portals, after which a skull with arms flailing around in front of the player appears, obscuring their vision in the ship sequence. The levels then briefly transition into a cube with two orb timings, then a very tight mini-wave with spikes covering some of the slopes, making it incredibly difficult to get through.
*74-83%: After passing the mini-wave, the player enters a half-speed normal-sized swing-copter with tight spaces and difficult pink pad timings.
*83-100%: When the swing-copter sequence ends, the hellish part of the level begins, and a normal speed wave starts the section with invisible sawblades creating insane timings. It is also where the level becomes impossible for 60Hz players due to a bit of luck-based and buggy timing. The sequence then alternates between straight-flying and wave spam. When the section ends, the half-speed outro begins with some demon art featuring the text 'Devil Vortex, Created by Rustam, Verified by ToshDeluxe. Inspired by Weo (referencing weoweoteo) Yata'.

Devil Vortex is a 2.0/2.1 Extreme Demon level by Rustam, hack-verified by ToshDeluxe on 21 April 2017.[1] It is known for its difficult, fast-paced gameplay and several straight-fly and mini-wave sections with very tight spaces. It is also notoriously buggy and inconsistent—a frequent feature in Rustam's levels.

As the original verification was illegitimate, many people considered Sunix the level's verifier, as he was the first person to beat the level with proven legitimacy.[2]

History

[edit | edit source]

Devil Vortex was somewhat started in Update 2.0 when Rustam entered Viprin's Creator Contest 7,[3] which was to decide the replacement for Manix648's part in Yatagarasu.[4] Rustam's entry featured fast-paced gameplay with many portal changes.[5]

However, AbstractDark won the contest,[6] so Rustam decided to use his part for a new hell-themed level—Devil Vortex. However, because ToshDeluxe was also practising Artificial Ideology at that time, he did not make any more progress until a few weeks later.[7]

On 26 February 2017, after the first progress video, ToshDeluxe officially started practising Devil Vortex and achieved a record of 43%, reaching the gray half-speed cube section. He also noted that it was harder than Bloodbath.[8]

On 27 March 2017, about a month after the second progress video, ToshDeluxe achieved a respectable record of 15-64%, marking a short yet accomplished run.[9] On 21 April 2017, ToshDeluxe finally 'verified' Devil Vortex after roughly 5,000 attempts, a surprisingly low amount likely due to the short length.[1] However, he has gotten several hacking accusations, and rumours spread out in the community due to the verification video having several lag spikes and glitches, which caused several people to believe Devil Vortex was hacked. However, ToshDeluxe managed to defend himself with points, such as stating that invisible gravity portals caused the 'strange' movement at the mini-wave section in the level, and that sawblades rotating the wrong way were going the same way before a 'cut' in the video.[10] Eventually, ToshDeluxe would seemingly clear his name, and Devil Vortex was rated shortly afterwards.

In contrast, when there are no gravity changes, these particles only emit the first time the wave makes contact with these surfaces.[11] This discovery makes it the verification of a level that took the longest to confirm as illegitimate. Sunix was the first legitimate victor on 1 July 2017.[2]
