History
Controversies
Creation
ItzKiba received criticism for his handling of Nullscapes, primarily for two reasons: the possibility of fixed hitboxes in the level and a built-in "Clicks Between Frames" (CBF) anti-cheat system.
Little is known as to when ItzKiba began creating the level, although it can be inferred that it was under creation after Shardscapes was completed. On April 25, 2023, ItzKiba uploaded a teaser of the level.

ItzKiba then uploaded the full showcase of the level on March 21, 2024.
On May 5, 2024, Kiba shared a screenshot of Nullscapes with fixed hitboxes near an orb, sparking criticism from the community because of how much fixed hitboxes can negatively impact level enjoyability. Zoink, known for adding fixed hitboxes in verifications, later clarified the shown hitboxes didn't affect gameplay. Kiba admitted he had asked Zoink to add them as a joke to gauge the community's reaction, which was negative.

Verification progress
Later, on August 13, Zoink tweeted a screenshot showing an 82% death, referencing the CBF mod in his copy's title. Confusion arose as to why the mod was referenced in the title, leading Kiba to confirm that the level featured an anti-cheat system to block the mod. This sparked backlash from the community and drew criticism from players such as npesta. The controversy over the mod soon faded, but it was later reignited following Zoink's verification. It was found that a message urging players to play the level without the mod would appear when they opened the level with the mod enabled. This message quickly became a meme, being referenced in other communities such as Omori and Ultrakill. Kiba faced criticism for boasting about blocking the mod on Twitter. Kiba later explained in a Pastebin why he added the feature and views CBF as illegitimate. He clarified that he doesn’t hate the feature but criticized community members for their negative impact on creators.

Gameplay
The level starts with a callback to Shardscapes, featuring the original song "Slow Down." The player faces challenging robot timings until 11%, where they must jump onto a spike, causing the screen to warp and display the text "Get out of my head." At 13%, the actual level begins, requiring players to execute tricky corner and micro jumps through tight passages with spike pillars. Two final micro and corner jumps lead to the next section. The next section maintains the same gameplay feature but introduces orbs that randomly swap types. Players must time their jumps carefully to avoid hitting the wrong orb. Following this, the segment adds glitch effects to platforms and a blur effect on the screen to disorient players. The level fades to black, resizing the player's robot and swapping the background and platform colors. The screen intermittently blurs and the platform has a glitchy effect. This section includes challenging timings from Shardscapes, difficult corner jumps, and unconventional orb gameplay with triple clicks, adding complexity. The level concludes with a staircase of corner jumps, leading to a spiked platform where the player becomes invisible before the level ends.

After the level's creation was completed, Zoink began making progress on the level, frequently livestreaming his verification process. On March 31, 2024, Zoink would crash at 31% as his first major verification progress and getting 37-80%. He would upload his 63% progress on April 26, 2024. As he make slow but substantial progress, Zoink would get 76% on July 30, 2024, and 82% twice.

Controversies
Fixed hitboxes joke
On May 5, 2024, ItzKiba uploaded a screenshot of Nullscapes featuring what appears to be fixed hitboxes close to an orb. The level then received heavy criticism from the community due to the negative impact fixed hitboxes can bring on a level's enjoyability.

Zoink would later clarify in a quote that the fixed hitboxes in Nullscapes do not affect gameplay. The YouTube channel Daily Dose of Geometry Dash reached out to ItzKiba regarding the situation, who replied that he told Zoink to add the fixed hitboxes as a joke to see if the community on Twitter would react negatively, which eventually became the case.

Click Between Frames blocker
After the verification and publishing of the level, users of the Click Between Frames (CBF) mod on Geode found an anti-cheat system to activate upon playing the level, which causes the player to crash at 0% with the text "CBF Detected, loser! Click Between Frames is illegitimate and will not be allowed for use in Nullscapes. Please disable the mod in order to continue player" to appear on the bottom part of the screen.

This feature drew criticism from community members such as npesta, while further ire came from others who believed ItzKiba to be antagonizing proponents of CBF despite the mod already having entered popular use due to the Demonlist's endorsement. ItzKiba sardonically responded by stating he will allow CBF on the level but instead the level has 1/20 chance of the clicks not registering. He later created a Pastebin text explaining the reasoning behind the CBF blocker, affirming that he believes that CBF is illegitimate whilst clarifying that he does not dislike the feature, at the same time criticizing the community members due to the negative impact their apparent lack of respect has made on several creators.

The controversy surrounding the CBF blocker became a meme in the community which spread to the wider gaming community, including those of Omori and Ultrakill.

Gameplay
The level "begins" at the first part of Shardscapes with the song 'Slow Down' playing first. The player must perform fairly difficult timings at a mini robot before reaching 11% where the player must jump on the last spike pillar, causing the screen and level to warp into static and the texts 'Get out of my head' will appear. Afterwards, actual part of Nullscapes begins at 13%. The player must go into a series of difficult corner and micro jumps to traverse through the very tight passage of the level due to the spike pillars located on the top of many of the corner jumps within the part. The player must make two last micro and corner jumps to pass through the next section.

The next section still utilises the same gameplay feature as the previous one, albeit including orbs. The orbs randomly swap with different types, forcing the player to time their jumps late or early depending on the circumstances in order to mitigate pressing the wrong orb. Then the next segment now includes glitch effects in the platforms as well as a blur effect within the screen in an attempt to disorient the player.

The level fades to black and the player's robot switches to normal size, causing the colors of the background and the platforms to swap. The screen blurs in every interval and the platform still features a glitchy effect. This part features many prominent timings found previously on Shardscapes, very difficult corner jumps and unconventional orb gameplay including double clicks which exacerbates the already difficult timings of the level as sometimes, both gameplay elements are present at the same time. The level ends in the same fashion as Shardscapes where the player's robot will disappear after landing on the last spike platform. Afterwards, the screen fades to static.

Nullscapes is an unrated 2.1/2.2 Extreme Demon created and published by ItzKiba and verified by Zoink on September 4, 2024. It is the sequel to Shardscapes. Like its predecessor, the level is heavily focused on the robot gamemode, which features extremely difficult unconventional gameplay and timing. The level is considered as the hardest robot-heavy Demon level in the game.[1]

The level is expected to place around the Top 5-10 of the Geometry Dash Demonlist when rated.

Controversies

ItzKiba received criticism for his handling of Nullscapes, primarily for two reasons: the possibility of fixed hitboxes in the level and a built-in "Clicks Between Frames" (CBF) anti-cheat system.

On May 5, 2024, Kiba shared a screenshot of Nullscapes with fixed hitboxes near an orb,[2] sparking criticism from the community because of how much fixed hitboxes can negatively impact level enjoyability[3]. Zoink, known for adding fixed hitboxes in verifications, later clarified the shown hitboxes didn't affect gameplay. Kiba admitted he had asked Zoink to add them as a joke to gauge the community's reaction, which was negative.[3]

Later, on August 13, Zoink tweeted a screenshot showing an 82% death, referencing the CBF mod in his copy's title.[4] Confusion arose as to why the mod was referenced in the title, leading Kiba to confirm that the level featured an anti-cheat system to block the mod.[5] This sparked backlash from the community and drew criticism from players such as npesta.[6] The controversy over the mod soon faded, but it was later reignited following Zoink's verification. It was found that a message urging players to play the level without the mod would appear when they opened the level with the mod enabled. This message quickly became a meme, being referenced in other communities such as Omori and Ultrakill.[7][8] Kiba faced criticism for boasting about blocking the mod on Twitter. He questioned why he received so much hate compared to Dorami, who faced no backlash for blocking the mod in his level, The Yangire.[9] Community members explained that the difference was that Kiba was notably hostile and boastful, while Dorami wasn't. Kiba later explained in a Pastebin why he added the feature and views CBF as illegitimate.[10] He clarified that he doesn’t hate the feature but criticized community members for their negative impact on creators.
