Sonic Wave Infinity (abbreviated to SWI) is a 2.0/2.1 Extreme Demon mega-collaboration level hosted by Zimnyte and Riot and created by the members of APTeam, verified by Xanii. Its development began in 2016 as an alternate version of Sonic Wave built by Viprin, intended for Riot to verify. After numerous controversies, multiple verifiers, including Sunix and Mycrafted, and an APTeam revamp in 2019, Xanii finally verified the level on 30 May 2021, sparking a debate over which version should be rated. Sonic Wave Infinity received mixed reviews from players, who were divided on its gameplay changes from the original and criticised its overall unbalanced gameplay, with many victors highlighting a lack of enjoyment.
History
In June 2015, at the tail end of Update 1.9, South Korean player Cyclic released Sonic Wave, supposedly the hardest verified level at the time, but it remained unrated due to a lack of verification evidence. Cyclic subsequently released a buffed version in July, which was briefly rated before questions about its legitimacy led Cyclic to delete his levels and quit the game. After Cyclic's departure, players such as Riot and Mefewe took it upon themselves to verify the level, steadily making progress throughout 2016. Cyclic later confessed to hacking Sonic Wave and other Demons, deleting his videos, and seemingly quitting permanently.
In 2016, amidst Update 2.0, Riot, after dying at 96% on the original level, enlisted Viprin to modernise and succeed Sonic Wave, dubbing the new version of Sonic Wave Infinity (SWI) and aiming to boost the ageing level's rating chances post-verification. Meanwhile, Mefewe collaborated with FunnyGame and Serponge on Sonic Wave Rebirth (SWR) with similar intentions. A deal was struck: Riot would verify SWI after Mefewe verified his level. However, Mefewe could not verify SWR, and Riot later lost motivation and quit. Aurorus, a notable hacker, leaked a buffed copy of SWI, confusing the community. Riot later returned, announcing that Wabbit and Aurorus would extend the level; in the meantime, Riot still intended to verify the original, unextended SWI. Sunix verified the original Sonic Wave in November 2016,[1] which was subsequently rated and placed at #1 on the Demonlist, rendering both SWI and SWR redundant. Nonetheless, Riot persisted in verifying SWI after the extension was cancelled, but he ultimately dropped the level due to finger pain, passing it to Cyclic (who had since returned and played legitimately); Cyclic later dropped the level for similar reasons. Riot then gave KrmaL the level again in 2017, with little progress. Riot also gave Sunix a super-buffed version of SWI; Sunix made 25% progress the day after acquiring the level with full intentions to verify,[2] but then went inactive after achieving 68% in 2018. In July 2017, Powerbomb completed an easier version of the level than the one Sunix was verifying; it was not considered official by Riot.[3]
Progress on SWI went dormant until Riot approached creator Zimnyte (then Zimnior) and his APTeam to revamp the level, impressed by their previous work, Apocalyptic Trilogy. Zimnyte first announced the APTeam remake of SWI in February 2018,[4] and later showcased his redecoration of the first cube part on 10 April 2018.[5] Members of APTeam and Zimnyte frequently posted videos tracking the level's development throughout 2018 and 2019.
During SWI's development, Riot sought a new verifier following Sunix's absence. He settled on Technical in February 2019,[6][7] who had recently verified the Top 10 level Sigma. However, before the level was fully decorated, Technical withdrew from the verification due to stress concerns.[8]
Mycrafted then took over,[9] streaming SWI while awaiting the completion of development and also finishing his verification of another APTeam project, Apocalyptic Trilogy. APTeam finished the level in December 2019, and Zimnyte showcased it on the 20th.[10] Mycrafted super-buffed SWI over the next months, making it near-impossible. Zimnyte showcased this version on 28 June 2020.[11] However, Mycrafted lost interest in the game, stating in July that only SWI and Apocalyptic Trilogy kept him motivated to play.[12] He mentioned passing SWI to rori and the Trilogy to nSwish if he quit,[13] which he soon did. A fake tweet then surfaced alleging he nerfed SWI to kowareta difficulty (#15 on the Demonlist at the time),[14] but he denied both the nerf and making the tweet.[15]
Mycrafted passed SWI to rori,[16] who made steady progress, achieving 73-100% on 26 July 2020 and a 61-100% run on 19 August.[17] However, rori then went inactive for about two and a half months before being removed from verification for inactivity.
Zimnyte and Riot handed off SWI's verification to Xanii, who, after many nerfs from Mycrafted and rori's near-impossible version, showcased a 59-100% run on his channel on 19 November 2020.[18] Two days later, he posted another video, 'I am verifying Sonic Wave Infinity. (59-100 Again)',[19] explaining rori's removal from the verifier position due to inactivity and demonstrating another 59-100% run. Over the next ten days, he made progress, achieving records of 24%,[20] 34%,[21] 40%,[22] and a run of 24-56%.[23] Concerns about his legitimacy arose due to his rapid progression, prompting him to upload a video proving his innocence.[24] However, excessive play led to burnout, prompting his first break from the level.
During this two-month break, Xanii beat various Top 40 levels and previous versions of Sonic Wave, including Generic Wave[25] and the original SWI from 2016.[26] He returned to SWI on 16 February 2021 with a 52% run, but his activity on the level soon became intermittent, with breaks interspersed between progress. He briefly paused due to verification duties for WOODKID,[27] but he returned when WOODKID was revamped as an auto level. He achieved a 24-100% run on 5 April 2021.[28]
In April 2021, Riot discontinued APTeam's version as the official level for unknown reasons, prompting the development of a new version set to be verified by Slithium, using a slightly tweaked version of Viprin's original decoration. Despite this, Xanii continued verifying the APTeam version.[29]
On 21 April 2021, Riot announced that if Xanii published SWI to the Geometry Dash servers instead of APTeam, he would reconsider making APTeam's version official rather than the Slithium version; however, Xanii later revealed that Zimnyte would not allow it.[30] Viprin clarified that non-official levels can still be rated, suggesting APTeam's SWI would probably be rated anyway.[31]
Xanii resumed his efforts on SWI in early May, consistently streaming more and swiftly progressing with multiple new bests. He continuously achieved incremental progress, culminating in a 63% run.[32] During a marathon session on 15 May 2021,[33] he died at the final wave section, at 76%.[34] his verification stress increased significantly, and he was unsure if he wanted to continue.[35]
On 21 May 2021, Zimnyte proposed renaming his version from 'Sonic Wave Infinity' to 'Sonic Wave Eternity' to avoid confusion with Riot and Slithium's official version.[36] Despite widespread community support, Xanii opposed the change, fearing it would alter the level's legacy. He threatened to drop the level,[37] stating that he chose to verify 'Sonic Wave Infinity, not Sonic Wave Eternity'.[38] As a result, APTeam abandoned the idea of renaming the level.
On 28 May 2021, Xanii unexpectedly died at 82%, the last spam section of SWI.[39] This setback deeply affected his motivation, with him later referencing Mefewe's infamous 98% death on the original level in a tweet.[40] Nonetheless, he continued his attempts, and on 30 May 2021, Xanii verified Sonic Wave Infinity after 6 months and 60000 attempts.[41] The level was not immediately published, as Zimnyte wanted to fix specific Legacy Mode errors first.
Later that day, Riot announced the cancellation of Slithium's version of SWI to avoid having two versions in the Top 10 of the Demonlist, recognising it as tedious to top players. He also clarified that the alternate version was created because Xanii took numerous breaks, aiming for a faster release without removing him from verification. However, as Xanii verified his version before Slithium did, Riot again designated the APTeam version as official.
As planned, SWI was uploaded to APTeam's account. Unexpectedly, though, Xanii also uploaded the same level to his account without permission, claiming he was entitled to do so because of his official verification effort. A debate ensued over whose version to rate, with some backing Xanii's points and others criticising his disloyalty to APTeam. Furthermore, Xanii had previously incorporated a tribute to the late Michigun in the level, which was absent from APTeam's uploaded version. This action sparked more controversy, with some accusing APTeam of showing disrespect by removing the tribute. APTeam, however, denied that the tribute had ever been part of their version.[42] APTeam's version was eventually rated; however, the level was unrated about two hours later due to a trigger discovered in the last cube section, which would crash the game if touched.[43] Initially, there were suspicions that Xanii added it out of spite after APTeam's version was rated, aiming to nullify their rating and elevate his own; however, he later clarified that it was a forgotten joke from months earlier.[44] Xanii then removed the trigger from his version to attempt a rating on his version.[45] However, recognising his initial conduct to APTeam as immature, he later requested the deletion of his version to prevent further disagreement.[46] Hours later, Zimnyte addressed the issue on Twitter and promised to remove the trigger.[47] Once the trigger was removed in a level update, the level was re-rated on 1 June 2021.[48]
Pinpointing SWI's placement on the Demonlist proved challenging. Players like Crisis hailed it as unrivaled,[49] while others such as Ryth[50] and dice88[51] deemed it easier than Tartarus.[52] On 29 June 2021, the level was placed at #3 on the Demonlist, which was considered a significant letdown as many anticipated it to be a potential Top 1 to top the long-reigning Tartarus.
Years later, Tartarus was shifted below SWI, retrospectively making SWI the Top 1 level for four months until the release of Firework.
Description
Sonic Wave Infinity is a super-buffed remake of Sonic Wave by Cyclic, an Extreme Demon Nine Circles level.
- 0-7% (Zimnyte): Sonic Wave Infinity begins with a simple normal-speed cube section with a few orb timings. A few spikes are protruding from parts of the pads. Some platforms force the player to time their orbs even more precisely. A short auto section transitions the player to the next section.
- 7-16% (Salamander): Next is a double-speed ship section alternating in gravity and size many times. The player must awkwardly manoeuvre around slopes, spikes and gears. Three times during the ship, the speed becomes half-speed, and the player must perform a brief mini-ship 'straight-fly' between four spikes. The part ends with a semi-auto double-speed mini-cube section with only a singular blue orb timing.
- 16-24% (Playerwombat): The player enters a half-speed ball section with a few orb timings and sloped structures. The speed then switches to normal, and the player becomes mini for four orb timings before returning to normal size, where they must time their inputs to avoid spikes on the platforms. Similar gameplay follows after a switch to double speed, after which there is a triple-speed dual-mini-ball section, where the player must avoid the spikes on the ground and ceiling with both icons, as at 50% in Windy Landscape. One jump as a triple-speed cube transitions the player into the next part, as text saying 'Sonic Wave Infinity' briefly enters the screen.
- 24-30% (LuisLuigi + Creeper4): At the drop, there is a triple-speed wave section with flashing and pulsing decoration, as is custom with most Nine Circles levels. This part features remarkably tight spaces and two gravity portals in rapid succession, throwing the player off. Most structures have spikes on the walls that make the gaps even tighter. Halfway through the part, the wave becomes mini. They must go up and down to the song's beat to avoid the gears.
- 30-35% (LiLium11): This part features blocks extending from the structures to buff the gameplay. There are also more sawblades and spikes on the walls. It starts with a triple-speed wave that requires plenty of awkward manoeuvring, followed by a dual-mini-wave with sloped structures and spikes on the ground and the ceiling that the player must navigate.
- 35-41% (Brittank88 + Reunomi): Featuring brighter colours but fewer pulses, the next part begins with a triple-speed mini-wave segment that requires the player to let go and immediately tap to avoid the spikes on the ground and ceiling. The player has to do it many times in quick succession with a gravity change in the middle. After this, it is a normal-sized wave with more awkward manoeuvring around octagonal blocks that take the place of sawblades, followed by a mini-wave section with a bit of spam at the beginning and two extremely tight spaces formed by extending spikes at the end.
- 41-46% (IncaKola): This part features a few spam sections as a triple-speed wave with a few gravity portals in the middle. After that is a mini-wave section with more spam, followed by a part requiring extremely awkward, precise movement around awkwardly shaped structures with protruding spikes. The part ends with brief yet tight controlled mini-wave spam around sawblades.
- 46-55% (Destez + Requiem): This part is a cube section with many orb timings. The speed starts at half speed but speeds up to double and triple speed. In the original level, the orbs did not need to be timed precisely and spamming allowed the player to pass this part. However, the new version added sawblades, forcing the player to time some of the orbs.
- 55-59% (Cynik): The player enters a triple-speed wave section not only with exceedingly tight spaces as before but with moving structures as well. The speed changes to half speed a short way in, and the player must make three precise inputs. Following that is a triple-speed dual-wave section where the player must avoid sawblades in the centre of the screen and spiked structures moving in from the ground and ceiling.
- 59-63% (Nahuel): Next is a triple-speed wave section, much brighter than most of the other parts of the level. The player must again avoid structures and sawblades and pass through fakes twice. After a few gravity portals, the speed drops to half for a brief moment before the level returns to triple speed, with gameplay similar to the beginning.
- 63-65% (Pocketbuilder): In a seamless transition from the previous part, the player, as a triple-speed wave, must spam between two triangular structures with protruding spikes, after which the wave becomes mini and must again go up and down to the beat of the song to avoid the sawblades, as in LuisLuigi's part.
- 65-68% (Cybronaut): As a half-speed mini-wave, the player must spam gradually up a slope, being careful of crashing into the sawblades above. After a quick dip into a tight space between two structures, the player must do the same thing, except they must spam slowly downwards. After a few tight corridors at half- and normal speed and grey slopes covering up the structures, there is a space between some spikes and a gear that needs spam through them. The part ends with some more tight mini-wave spaces.
- 68-73% (ZeroSR): This part is a memory cube section that starts at normal speed but changes to triple speed halfway through. The memory section consists of a series of pillars with gaps between them. Some are fake, and the player must remember whether to jump or fall to the next. The pillars also have blue pads that can change gravity and attempt to confuse them. After this, a short semi-auto half-speed cube part leads to the final gameplay part of the level.
- 73-82% (Creeper4): The player enters the final gameplay section with an exceedingly tight triple-speed wave with more spiked structures, gears and gravity portals that the player must awkwardly manoeuvre around. Partway through, the player must complete gameplay similar to the mini-wave. Following this is a half-speed normal-size wave section with a few gravity portals that require small wave movements to avoid spikes. After a similar bit at normal speed, the player finishes with double and triple-speed mini-wave spam over gears and spiked structures.
- 82-100% (Tribar + Nickalopogas, End Screen): The final part of the level is the end screen, which features an intricate background and flashy effects. It starts by crediting the hosts, Zimnyte (shown as 'Zim12') and Riot and the verifier, Xanii. At the same time, their cube icon appears on the right side of the screen. Then, the view pans upwards, and the background fades to black as the names of the creators of the individual parts, the end screen (Tribar), the end screen background (Nickalopogas) and the original level (Cyclic) scroll. Finally, the screen fades to black, and the message 'GG' appears in the bottom-right corner, signalling the end of the level.

Trivia
- Sonic Wave Infinity was placed at #3 on the Demonlist on 29 June 2021, above Zodiac and below The Golden.
- This addition pushed Factory Realm X into the Extended List for the second time and DARKENED into the Legacy List.
- This addition also pushed Crimson Planet out of the Top 5, Thinking Space out of the Top 10 after more than a year since its initial placement, and Visible Ray out of the Top 25 after more than two years.
- Sonic Wave Infinity's placement finally peaked after almost two years, on 10 May 2023, after Tartarus was moved down from #18 to #20, making Sonic Wave Infinity harder than Tartarus nowadays; Sonic Wave Infinity is now a retrospective Top 1.
- This addition pushed Factory Realm X into the Extended List for the second time and DARKENED into the Legacy List.
- On 11 March 2021, Xanii jokingly asked the Among Us developers on Twitter for luck to verify Sonic Wave Infinity.[53] Surprisingly, they replied with 'yooo good luck!!!!'[54] This sparked a running joke that the devs were the key to Xanii's success.
- Sonic Wave Infinity, along with Tartarus and The Golden, contribute to the player-created 'New RGB trilogy,' representing the Demonlist Top 3 corresponding to each colour on the RGB scale, echoing the trio of Yatagarasu, Erebus, and Sonic Wave from 2017.
- Unlike the classic 'RGB Trilogy,' where the sequence was disrupted when Erebus claimed the Top 1 spot, all three levels from the 'New RGB Trilogy' were initially placed in the corresponding spots as the letters are listed (Tartarus (R), The Golden (G), and Sonic Wave Infinity (B)).
- Sonic Wave Infinity is currently the only Sonic Wave remake remaining on the Demonlist.
- Russoboy currently has a 39% mobile record on Sonic Wave Infinity[55] along with CappyT having a 24% 60Hz mobile record.[56]
- HipoSmokeWeed verified Slithium's version of Sonic Wave Infinity on 19 December 2025, currently the hardest Sonic Wave level beaten.[57]
- Sonic Wave Infinity went through eight verifiers, being Riot, Cyclic, KrmaL, Sunix, Technical, Mycrafted, rori, and Xanii; it is the fourth largest number of verifiers recorded on a single level, behind Aerial Gleam (10 verifiers), Quicksand (12 verifiers) and Forever Asleep (15 verifiers).
- Sonic Wave Infinity is a "Retrospective Top 1", as it was placed at #3 on the Demonlist while Tartarus was #1, but nowadays, Sonic Wave Infinity is thought to be more difficult, sitting above Tartarus.
- The placement of CHROMACAVE on 11 March 2026 pushed Sonic Wave Infinity into the Extended List of the Demonlist.
- Sonic Wave Infinity was the last level of the New RGB Trilogy that fell into the Extended List of the Demonlist.
- Xanii gave a humorous reaction to this occurrence on twitter.[58]
