Congregation is a 2.1 Extreme Demon level by Presta, verified by Floofle on 27 April 2021.[1] The level contains music sync-based gameplay and difficult timings. The level is one of the more controversial levels on the Demonlist, on which it reached a peak of #35, receiving praise from players for its atmosphere and music but criticism for its unconventional style of gameplay and its lengthy pre-drop section.[2][3]

Congregation inspired the 'Congregation Jumpscare' meme, centred on videos in which gameplay of random, unrelated levels is edited to lead into the drop section of Congregation unexpectedly.

Description

Congregation's gameplay is very slow, except for the drop. The level consists of tight timings with the cube, ball and robot.

  • 0-11%: Congregation begins with the player getting flung by a large, invisible slope into the first section of the level, consisting of tight mini-cube gameplay. Many timings involve jumping through tiny gaps between spikes and jumping over blocks. The decoration of this section's objects is mainly blue and uses a fading effect that makes some blocks barely visible, requiring memorisation. This section also features moving saw blades.
  • 12-22%: The second section of the level consists of tight mini-ball timings on straight and sloped platforms. This section also contains some orb timings, and the decoration is identical to the previous one, which uses the fade effect. There are a few bits of decoration coloured orange, foreshadowing the level's drop.
  • 23-31%: The third section of the level consists of tight normal-size ball timings. The gameplay style is identical to the previous section except for some flashing red and orange objects that act as moving platforms.
  • 32-42%: The fourth section of the level consists of the same gameplay style as the first section. However, in this section, many of the blocks used as platforms move around. The decoration is almost identical to the previous part but contains more flashing red/orange objects. The level transitions into the drop after the player passes a tight cube timing between two spikes, leaving them in a lengthy fall.
  • 43-59%: At the drop, the player falls into the next section. This part contains tight double-speed cube timings and multiple gravity-changing orbs and portals. All the platforms in this section move around, unlike only some in the previous one. The decoration of this section serves as a 'mirror' of the previous sections, mainly flashing orange with some blue objects.
  • 60-84%: The following section consists of tight quadruple-speed robot timings. It is the fastest-travelling part of Congregation, and it contains many more orb timings and a few dash orbs. Like the previous section, all the platforms move around, and there are many gravity changes. The decoration of this part alternates from completely orange-red to completely purple-blue. At the end of this part, the screen fades.
  • 85-95%: The final section of the level is similar to the first section, with slow, tight mini-cube timings, no platform movement and a blue colour scheme. There are two differences between these sections: the final section contains some sloped platforms and green decoration. The gameplay becomes automatic until the end of the level, after a flat cube section with a few timings.
  • 96-100% (End Screen): This part is an auto mini ball. Neon-blue digital-style text slowly appears with the level's name, creator, verifier and some play-testers: Exerity, Arb, Rustere, and YakobNugget. These words fade, and the letters 'GG' flash before the level ends.

Trivia

  • Congregation was rated on 27 April 2021 and placed at #47 on the Demonlist a month later, above WOW and below Omicron.
    • This addition pushed Demonicat into the Extended List and Alpha Baa X into the Legacy List.
  • Congregation was nominated for Best XL Demon in the Geometry Dash 2021 Awards.
  • Congregation is the fourth Extreme Demon released with no ship section, the first being Removed Submission, the second being Marathon, and the third being Cold Sweat.
  • Congregation is one of the few Extreme Demon levels to get an Epic rating without exceeding the base 40,000 object cap.
    • Some others examples are Acu and RUST.
  • There is a YouTube channel named Congregation Jumpscares, consisting of normal gameplay of a certain level in Geometry Dash, before suddenly transitioning to Congregation, usually at the 42% mark, sometimes at the beginning or occasionally elsewhere.
  • On 1 April 2024, RobTop made Congregation the Weekly Demon for a day as an April Fools' joke. Additionally, RobTop gave every comment in the Weekly Demon's comment section coloured text, a moderator badge and extra text (either preceding or after the username) added to the poster's username.
    • Alongside Congregation, the level Youve been trolled by KodaVeen was also set as the daily level.
  • The placement of Cobwebs on 26 January 2025 pushed Congregation into the Legacy List of the Demonlist after three years.

Notable completions

  • Floofle fluked Congregation from 58% while verifying it.
  • Pandox is the first to beat Congregation on Mobile on 1 January 2024, using a 120Hz phone.[4]
