WOW
WOW is a 2.1 Extreme Demon mega-collaboration hosted by TrusTa, initially verified by npesta on 23 April 2019.[1] Kandai (formerly Dragoon) re-verified the level for a balance update on 25 June 2021. It is known for its unique spam-based gameplay. TrusTa created all the gameplay, and some creators helped him decorate parts of it. TrusTa was originally set to verify the level, but he dropped it and handed it over to npesta.
History
[edit | edit source]Creating process
[edit | edit source]On 15 August 2017, TrusTa uploaded a video titled 'wow'. It showed the beginning of a layout he created. It gained some attention, and people quickly praised it for its hyperactively fast-paced gameplay and unique song.[2] About a month later, on 16 September, TrusTa uploaded the full layout to YouTube, showing the rest of the fast gameplay and song. The description showed the team decorating the level. It had some decently well-known creators such as loogiah, Vlacc, Dudex, ChaSe, Namtar, Codex, and Aquatias.[3]
Pennutoh released a video showcasing his finished decoration at the beginning of the level on 12 November 2017. It featured lots of colour flashes and was overall rainbow-themed.[4] On 3 December 2017, TrusTa released an official preview of the level, showcasing the aforementioned decoration by Pennutoh and some new, never-before-seen gloomy rainbow decorations by ChaSe during one of the slower parts of the level. Also, the video description revealed the new decoration crew of the level, with it consisting of Pennutoh, ChaSe, Failure444, SlimJim, and Marwec.[5]
Marwec released his decoration for the level on Christmas Day 2017, which was the last part. It has a similar decoration and style to Pennutoh.[6] After a period of inactivity regarding the level, Salaxium released two videos on 12 and 13 March 2018, both of which showed SlimJim's unfinished decoration.[7] On 22 June, Failure444 released a video showcasing the finished decoration of his part of the level. In the video description, he stated that his part contains about 45,000 objects.[8] Five months later, on 24 December, Splash released the end logo of the level, which he and ChaSe worked on.[9]
Verification
[edit | edit source]On 12 February 2019, TrusTa began verification of WOW and achieved 22%. In the video description, he stated that this would be the last thing he would do in his career before returning in 2020.[10] One week later, on 19 February, he made a run of 34-82%, thus mastering the spam parts.[11] However, about a month later, on 22 March, TrusTa dropped WOW and passed it to npesta.[12]
npesta quickly achieved 31% on the same day.[13] The next day, npesta achieved a run of 62-100%, thus mastering the spam parts.[14] Sometime later, on 5 April 2019, he achieved a great run of 30-100%.[15] Just four days later, on 9 April, he got an astounding record of 66%.[16] Two days later, on 11 April, he got an incredible record of 88%.[17] Then, on 22 April 2019, despite taking longer, he verified the level on stream.[1]
Description
[edit | edit source]- 0-17% (Pennutoh): WOW begins during the build-up to the drop with an auto cube section with some orbs required to hit. At the drop, there is some extremely fast-paced triple-speed gameplay that features tons of spamming, straight-flying, timings, and more.
- 18-30% (ChaSe): Next, the song and gameplay slow down. Starting at normal speed, then half speed, the part contains some cube and robot sections that require some timing. When the speed increases to double speed, the gameplay begins as a brief straight-fly, followed by a cube section with many orbs. A long and tricky ship sequence with varying gravity and sizes is next, with a one-jump cube right after that.
- 31-44% (Disp): Afterwards, the music speeds back up. It starts with more spamming and a fast-paced, timing-based gameplay, this time at double speed. A triple-speed ship sequence mainly consisting of a straight-fly is next, with a fast-paced near-auto cube coming right after.
- 45-61% (Failure444): When the music speeds up, the gameplay does too, with some fast triple-speed gameplay with many orbs and portals forcing the player to use pixel-perfect timing while also in a spamming fashion.
- 62-82% (SlimJim): The next section features gameplay very different from other parts. It contains lots of 'spam counters'. Here, the player must spam their mouse more than the original number on the counter to pass this part. There are many of them here, and this part may be tricky for some players.
- 83-94% (Marwec): The final part features similar spamming, timing and skill-based gameplay from earlier in the level, along with some swing copter sections at the beginning.
- 95-100% (ChaSe + Splash): Afterwards, the player enters an auto half-speed cube section with the end logo. Then, the level ends.
Gameplay
[edit | edit source]Trivia
[edit | edit source]- WOW was rated on 15 June 2019 and placed at #15 on the Demonlist on 16 June 2019, above Titan Complex and below Devil Vortex.
- This addition pushed Esencia into the Extended List for the first time and Creeper Force into the Legacy List for the third time.
- This initial placement of the Demonlist matches npesta opinion on the difficulty of the level, with that being Top 15.
- Following the balance update, WOW was moved from #53 to #69 on 3 August 2018, above Digital Descent and below Catalyze.
- WOW is the first collaboration level hosted by TrusTa.
- After WOW was originally released, many people thought this level would not get rated because it was an April Fools' joke level before it was released, and many people beat that. Hence, if it got rated, many players would get 500 orbs, 10 stars, and a free Demon.
- npesta, being the verifier, felt bad for some of the bugs that other players ran into that he did not. Therefore, he did not fix the bugs because he could one-handedly jitter-click, as he said in his Extreme Demon Tier List video.[18]
- Biprex has a mobile record of 79% on WOW, fluking it from 40%.[19]
- The movement of Chromatic Haze from the Legacy List to #141 on 14 March 2023 pushed WOW into the Legacy List of the Demonlist.
