Cosmic Cyclone is a 2.1 Extreme Demon mega-collaboration level hosted by Zimnyte and Riot, created by Cyclic and Zhander, decorated by the members of APTeam, and verified by DoSh7t on 29 November 2021.[1] placing #28 on the Demonlist. It is the sequel to Sonic Wave, with design elements of the remake Sonic Wave Infinity. Like its predecessor, Cosmic Cyclone is made in the style of Nine Circles levels, as well as having similar gameplay features as Sonic Wave with the addition of extensive 2.1 decoration. The difficulty of Cosmic Cyclone primarily stems from quadruple-speed wave parts with frequent changes in gravity and size, combined with narrow aisles between the blocks.

History

Cosmic Cyclone first appeared in 2017. On 28 November 2017, DollarC released its first stream. Sunix, Riot and Cyclic are all involved in gameplay of this level. The person to verify the level was planned to be Combined, and the person who would decorate was unknown. The first level preview was released the same day, showcasing a part of the wave.

In December 2017, Zhander released his version of the Cosmic Cyclone layout, which later became the official version until APTeam's layout nearly a year later. On 10 January 2018, Combined reached 36-100% on Zhander's layout.

However, after that, there was no news about the level for quite a long time, and there were even rumours that the level had been cancelled. However, on 20 August 2018, another redesigned layout was released by Zimnyte. This was later proved that the level had been handed over to APTeam. Brittank88 and Zhander participated in redesigning the level, with sections becoming much more complex, and some places such as the ship parts were completely changed. In addition, many parts of the level became more chaotic, with Zimnyte saying that this level should become a Top 1 difficulty Demon.

From that moment on, the APTeam's version of the level was considered official, and on 7 February 2019, APTeam released a mega-collaboration. In addition, the gameplay of ships had changed dramatically, with the unpleasant parts removed and replaced by cube gameplay, while the cube before drop has been replaced by ball sections.

On 15 April 2019, while the level was in production, Ossy Flawol built and released the unofficial but verified version of Cosmic Cyclone. Meatius Gaming was designated as the verifier of this version, and on 11 June 2019, Meatius got 53% on its version.

On 17 August 2019, Meatius get 90%. Unfortunately, since then there has been no other progress since this record. Later, Wolff was appointed as the verifier, but he made no significant progress.

On August 20, 2019, a video of the verification progress was released, and, on 29 February 2020, Zimnyte showed his part in Cosmic Cyclone. However, in the final version of the level, it was replaced with another version, the reason unknown.

The final preview was released on 24 April 2021. It showed significant changes in gameplay and decorations, and the ball section was completely changed, along with the gameplay before the ball was reverted to the ship. Apart from the ball, almost every part was decorated, with only optimization and bug fixes left.

After three years of construction, on 24 September 2021, the full version of Cosmic Cyclone was finally released. This level was supposed to be verified by Combined; however, he later dropped the level and DoSh7t became the new verifier. On 29 November 2021, DoSh7t verified the level in 12,000 attempts. In his opinion, this level is harder than Sonic Wave and Bloodlust, but easier than kowareta.

On 11 December 2021, the level was rated, and on 4 January 2022, it was placed on the Demonlist.

Gameplay

Template:Low-Faith/Section Cosmic Cyclone's gameplay is similar to its predecessor, Sonic Wave.

Cosmic Cyclone begins with a difficult red orb transition, leading to a green orb. Following that, there are more difficult jumps and transitions. The player then becomes a ship where they must fly through annoyingly tight spaces and diagonal pillars. After bouncing through a series of orbs and pads as a cube, the player becomes a ball, but unlike its predecessor, the speed is 1x, the former's speed being 0.5x. In this section the player must hit various orbs later and fit through small gaps between spikes, being a hard section of the level. After becoming a mini-dual like Sonic Wave, the player enters the infamous Nine Circles wave. However, unlike most Nine Circles levels, the speed is 4x, contradicting the classic 3x speed. In the wave, the player goes through ridiculously tight spaces and manoeuvres through gravity portals and size portals at a high rate, and later the player then becomes a cube at 2x speed, keeping up the consistent difficulty of the level with tight transitions off of orbs and incredibly difficult jumps. The player enters the second wave, this time with various speed changes and more gravity and size portals. This part also requires fast but precise spamming in the dual sections. In the final part, the player becomes a cube again. However, the gameplay is overall memory-based, being different from the rest of the level. After a brief rest, the player goes into the final Nine Circles wave, keeping the difficulty as the other two wave sections previously, ending by spamming over the name 'APTEAM' as the end screen appears. During the end screen, the words 'Cosmic Cyclone' appear, followed by end credits showing the creator names, and finally, a very detailed artwork depicting two planets ends the level.

Trivia

  • The level is free to copy.
  • The level contains 212,000 objects.

    • This was later proved not true as the level was placed in the Top 30 on the Demonlist.
  • Zimnyte originally had plans to change much of the level's non-wave gameplay, but later reverted to the original non-wave gameplay Zhander created.
  • Multiple decorators were cut from the official level. These creators were Isane, Zimnyte, Salamander, Artaire and Meox.
    • Brittank88 also had a gameplay section originally, but it got removed.

Cosmic Cyclone is an unrated 2.1 Extreme Demon level hosted by OssyTheDragon, verified and re-published by Prototype Hipo. It was created as an alternate and more traditional version of the official level made by APTeam. It was formally going to be verified by Meatius but was eventually dropped and handed to Wolfy, who would then later drop the level as well. It was then transferred to Sid125 but was never verified by him as Ossy suddenly decided to upload the level without any verification.

On 21 September 2022, a skilled Argentine player, Prototype Hipo, would begin uploading his progress on the level. Initially achieving 65% and a 38-100% run, he would surpass this with a 95% fail two days later. On September 25, he verified the level after 27,696 attempts.

Gameplay

Template:Low-Faith/Section

The level starts with a cube segment. Here, as in Sonic Wave, it is necessary to jump on platforms and orbs while dodging spikes and saws. The only difference is more complicated gameplay. This is followed by the part of the ship, where the player must overcome the saw-blades and pass through narrow cracks. Also, at this stage, there will be a large number of speed changes. After that, there is a short stage of the cube, where they first need to push off from the yellow orb and then jump back from the blue pads. Then comes the part of the ball with overcoming difficult timings, sawblades, and orbs. Before the main part of the level, where most of it goes on quadruple speed, the speed slows down, the character becomes a cube, and the player is allowed to 'take a break'. The main part of the level begins. In contrast to the Sonic Wave, here the speed is quadruple, not triple. The main difficulty is a large number of narrow aisles, multiple changes in size and speed, as well as a split in one place. This is followed by a segment of the cube, where the player needs to count the time and jump on the orbs on time. Also, the speed here will slowly increase, because of what they need to more accurately calculate the time for jumping. Then comes a part of the hellish wave again with the same difficulties as in the previous stage of the wave: Change of speed, size and gravity, bifurcation, circular saws, spikes, and a huge number of narrow spaces. Having overcome this part of the way, the cube stage begins, where it is necessary to jump on the pole. In this case, the path will be branched out. Therefore, they need to choose this most correct path. The level ends with the last hellish wave overcoming the same obstacles that are present in the original Sonic Wave. The 95% wave part's design changes consecutively into the four Sonic Wave versions (the old Sonic Wave, Sonic Wave, Sonic Wave Infinity (legacy mode), and Sonic Wave Rebirth) before the level ends with a 'GG CYCLIC' and the names of the creators.

Trivia

  • At one point, Meatius wanted to redesign the final wave but ended up reverting to normal. It was restored in a version Aeden attempted to verify.

Cosmic Cyclone is a proposed 2.1 Extreme Demon level hosted by one of the level's original hosts, Riot. This version of the level is brand new following Riot's split from APTeam. Despite the other versions getting verified, this version of Cosmic Cyclone is regarded as the official version by Riot. It is being decorated by Cirtrax and will be verified by SentientDjake.

Gameplay

The gameplay from Zhander's version of Cosmic Cyclone was recycled for use in this version, but SentientDjake made some changes to make the level different and more fun.
