CONVOLUTION is a 2.2 Extreme Demon platformer level by MaddyGMD, published on 26 May 2024, verified by GToast on 12 August 2024.[1] It was a former Top 1 rated platformer level and the longest-reigning platformer Top 1, staying at the top spot for 329 days.
History
The creation of CONVOLUTION started around early May of 2024, with the first full showcase of the level being uploaded on 17 May 2024, showing an earlier version of the level which had harder gameplay and was slightly shorter.
On 6 June 2024, Maddy extended CONVOLUTION and made some small updates, with the major addition being the DONT CHOKE final section.
GToast began verifying CONVOLUTION in mid-July 2024, and verified it on 12 August 2024, after 17 deaths at the last section.
On 20 August 2024, AyumiRenko began playing CONVOLUTION, dying to fourth-to-last jump 2 days later. Just 4 days after starting to grind the level, he beat it in 3,500 attempts, becoming the first victor of the level and setting the attempt count world record.
CONVOLUTION was placed at the #1 spot on The Platformer List (TPL),[2] which includes both rated and unrated levels, on 21 August 2024, dethroning Null as the hardest unrated platformer level
Two days later, CONVOLUTION would get rated, making it place at #1 on the rated platformer Demon List (Pemonlist),[3] dethroning Null.
On 21 February 2025, CONVOLUTION was dethroned as the hardest platformer level by delightful climb, the current hardest unrated platformer level as of 25 March 2026. CONVOLUTION became the longest standing Top 1 level on The Platformer List (TPL), having held the top position for 184 days, beating the previous record of 115 days set by the level Null.
On 18 July 2025, Diamonds For Dashers was rated by RobTop, making it instantly place as the new hardest-rated platformer level, dethroaning CONVOLUTION, after 329 days at the top spot, setting a new record as the longest standing Top 1 rated level.
Gameplay
CONVOLUTION features full mini-robot gameplay, every spike in the level is a mini-spike. The raw gameplay is not as difficult as other levels around its placement, but part of its difficulty comes from nerve-control, as this level doesn't have any checkpoints and takes about 1 minute and 20 seconds to complete. The gameplay in CONVOLUTION is inspired by one of Maddy's previous levels called Intervallum, but it is not the official sequel. The level features many tight turn-arounds, some of which require the player to reset their momentum.
