SLAM is a 2.1 Harder level by rafer. It is the first level of the Monster Gauntlet.

Description

[edit | edit source]

SLAM is a boss-fight level with an XL length. The normal route is not of comparable difficulty to typical Harder difficulty levels; it involves notably simpler gameplay that plays out as lower difficulty. However, this is contrasted by pursuing the level's user coins, where the associated gameplay's precision and alternate routes significantly escalate the difficulty beyond that of typical Harder difficulty levels. As such, the level's difficulty reflects an overall average.

  • 0-7%: SLAM begins with an easy cube segment. When the beat drops, the player will go into triple speed. The first orb at this segment must be hit late to access a secret way that is part of the coin route.
  • 7-19%: Then comes a very easy ship segment with few harmful obstacles. Then comes a UFO segment. If the player chooses the coin route, it will instead be a cube, and a key is located here. Next up is a ball segment, then another ship segment. (upside down for coin)
  • 19-26%: Coming up is a very easy, slow cube and robot section, similar to the first. As per the coin route, the player will remain in anti-gravity, and a wall will unlock, revealing a portal. The portal will teleport the player to a maze segment with question marks in the background. The player must navigate through this to get the coin at 24%.
  • 26-44%: This next section is the first boss. (Slime Monster) His first attack is bringing his hands down, blocking the top and bottom of the screen. If the player chooses the coin route, at 25%, there is a block that the player must hit (when not hitting the orb at 24%); a companion then spawns, and the player must protect him from the boss. His second attack is missiles shot from his head. (The third missile will miss and is therefore harmless.) Next, the boss will send a block flying; the player must stay low to avoid it. Then the player goes into an auto section where they '!SLAM!' the monster. The boss will then retreat for a bit, and the player will go into a triple-speed mini-ship. The boss's final attack is a barrage of lasers from his antennas.
  • 41-48%: After the boss is defeated, an easy cube section comes next. As for the coin, the player will go under the normal path, then back up onto a slope to the coin at 46%.
  • 48-82%: This part contains many triggers that the player must activate to get the third coin. The player enters an easy ship section with very few harmful obstacles. The player then transforms into various game-modes, all with very limited difficulty.
  • 82-100%: The final boss is a skeleton version of the first boss. (Slime Monster) because of the skin burning in lava. Like the level itself, this part is fairly easy. All the player needs to do is follow the arrows signifying where to go. At the end, the text reads 'FINISH HIM', along with a heart. After that, an animation shows the player slamming into the boss. The logo is shown at the end.

User coins

[edit | edit source]
  • The first coin is located at 24%. At the start of the level, the player must hold to jump three times to open the secret route at 4%. When the beat drops, the player must hit the orb very late to enter a secret path at 4%. The player will then enter the ship upside down. The player will then skip the UFO portal and continue as a cube. A key is located here. At the ball segment, the player must skip the last blue orb so that the next ship is upside down. The key will unlock a wall that contains a portal at 19%. The player must navigate through a maze and collect the coin at 24%.
  • The second coin is located at 46%. The player must miss the orb at 25%, hitting a block at the top, and summoning a companion that the player must protect from the boss. There are triggers needed to protect the companion during the first boss fight. Upon doing this, the player will then go below the normal route at 41%. The player will then go back up and onto a slope at 46%, leading to the coin.
    • This section was updated in Update 2.2, making the blocks at the top much lower than usual, due to the physics change.
  • The third and final coin is located at 81%. At 51%, hold up as the ship and go down to spill the can with chemicals inside. While touching all the necessary triggers between 51% and 82%, some parts in the normal path get significantly harder. Blue lava will come up at the final boss fight. Then, a blue fireball will appear. The player must follow the fireball. It will crash into the wall blocking the coin, allowing the player to pass through and collect it.

Trivia

[edit | edit source]
  • SLAM was ranked #89 in Geometry Dash Today's list, 'The Top 100 Greatest Geometry Dash Levels Of All Time'.
  • SLAM was nominated for and achieved Best Gauntlet Level in the Geometry Dash 2.1 Awards.
  • SLAM was the 475th Daily Level on 1 April 2018, also the same day that Bloodlust was the Weekly Demon for a day.
  • SLAM's music, 'Necromancy' by Zircon, can be found in Pump it up Fiesta EX.
  • rafer had requested SLAM to be rated 8, but it ultimately received 7. RobTop commented on the level, saying that the lower rating would not affect rafer's chances in the Gauntlet contest, in which SLAM went on to place first.
  • SLAM's description and name are a reference to the 1996 American live-action/animated sports comedy film, Space Jam.
    • However, because most of rafer's levels are named after Pendulum's songs, the title of SLAM is a reference to Pendulum's song of the same name.
