-sirius- is a 2.0 Medium Demon level by FunnyGame, published on 8 November 2015. Upon release, the level was featured and highly praised for its innovative effects and for being one of the first levels to introduce a boss fight. The level is FunnyGame's second-most downloaded Demon after Death Moon.

Overview

[edit | edit source]

-sirius- mainly revolves around its effects and its incredibly famous boss fight. The player must first avoid giant spikes in a red area, then enter a blue-and-green area where they become a ball. The gameplay in this part mainly consists of 2.0 elements, such as teleport portals and green orbs. Afterwards, the player must avoid parallax cubes as a ship. Then the level and the music suddenly speed up, and the player is confronted with an automatic black-and-white section.

Next is a warning text, followed by the start of the boss fight. In this first phase, two bosses shoot at the player (now as a wave), as well as giant and large spikes that are also trying to hit the player. The pattern of the spikes changes every time. Afterwards, in the second phase, only one of the bosses stays and shoots laser beams (accompanied by the previously encountered spikes) at the player. Then, in the third phase, the player becomes a robot, and only one boss appears. The boss throws multiple large, deadly purple orbs at the player; however, the player must also know where to go, as there are plenty of platforms that create multiple paths, and not all of them lead to victory. Finally, in the fourth and final phase, the player must avoid laser beams coming from the boss once again, while the deadly circles are still being thrown at the player.

When beating this phase, the text 'Clear!!!' appears, and the boss disintegrates. The level fades to white, and the player can hit the end wall to complete the level.

Detailed description

[edit | edit source]

-sirius- begins with the player in a cube segment featuring spikes double their normal size, appearing one after another. The player must time their jumps to the music's beat to jump over all of them. The red-and-black background is custom-made and features several decorative spikes, with plenty of depth. The text '-Sirius-' and 'FunnyGame' can be seen beating to the song in the background, and '♪ MafiaPineapple - Genesis' on the upper black border, showing off the song of the level, also beating to the song.

A teleport portal takes the player to a green and blue ball maze, with a colourful background moving to the beat. The blocks used as the path also flashed white briefly. Quite early in this part, the ball turns mini and must continue through the maze as before. Two moving green jump orbs then appear right before a wall of teleport portals. Right after that, the player must time a press to hit a yellow pad, sending the ball forward. More navigation follows along with a few gravity portals and an invisible size portal, as another teleport portal sends the player to the next part.

Next, the player enters a decently simple ship sequence. The hazards in this part include parallax-effect squares that must be flown through as they follow the player, as well as spikes on the floor and ceiling. The background here is filled with green circular motifs over a black screen, all spinning and moving to the beat of the song. After this, the song builds, and the ship becomes auto and appears to move much faster as objects move towards the left of the screen, with rapidly moving slopes against a white background and a bunch of squares in different shades of grey, all beating very quickly. About halfway through, the song builds further as the screen shrinks in from both the top and bottom, then stops and shows a red text message reading 'WARNING!!' as the boss is revealed right before the fight.

The song hits the drop, and the player transforms into a wave with a flashy red background, with the boss consisting of two spike-like creatures on both the left and right sides of the screen. The boss shoots custom-made spikes from both sides that move very quickly across the screen. The first wave of spikes can be avoided by sliding across the ground for a while before moving up for a single spike. The second wave requires the player to stay in the middle to avoid spikes coming in from both the top and the bottom. The two creatures then lunge towards the player in three beats before the third wave of spikes. Here, the player can begin by sliding across the ground once again, but they must then move up to avoid the spikes being shot from the right-side boss. The final spike barrage consists of diagonally moving spikes that can be avoided in several ways, right before the boss performs three more lunges towards the player.

After this, the left-side boss disappears, and the right-side boss begins to shoot lasers and more spikes in four new waves of hazards. Firstly, the boss shoots lasers from the top to the bottom of the screen, and fires spikes at the top. In the second wave, lasers are shot at the bottom, and the boss moves towards the player, forcing them to move to the top of the screen for a moment. The third wave begins with the boss firing lasers at the top, followed by spikes at the bottom right. Finally, lasers are shot from the bottom towards the middle just before the player enters a teleport portal, signalling the final part of the level.

Here, the player enters a normal-sized robot sequence, and the background turns dark purple. The gameplay consists of lots of memorization and timing the robot's jumps to land on a ton of platforms over a blanket of clouds just below. The boss here launches large purple orbs of varying sizes at the player, which must be avoided by jumping onto the correct platforms. After each quarter of this part, the boss, as before, lunges at the player from right to left. Halfway through, the boss's eye turns purple, and it begins shooting a mix of both lasers and orbs, although this time, the boss shoots double lasers. If the player manages to avoid the three final orbs, the boss disappears, and the text 'Clear!!!' appears as the background turns white, concluding the level.

User coins

[edit | edit source]

-sirius- contains three user coins.

  • The first coin is located near the sixth giant spike on the ground at 8%, to the left of a hanging spike. After the player jumps over the sixth spike, they must jump again to obtain the coin. Jumping too late could cause the player to crash into the hanging spike.
  • The second coin is located near the ceiling before the short auto part, around 34%. The player must fly up immediately as the background transitions to white.
  • The third and final coin is located near the ceiling before the boss shoots the first wave of lasers, around 60%. When the boss begins to fire lasers, the player must go up to the ceiling to collect the coin. Going up too early will cause the player to crash into the line of monsters above.

Trivia

[edit | edit source]
  • Despite the detailed decoration, FunnyGame managed to build -sirius- in exactly 30,000 objects.
  • -sirius- was nominated for Best Bossfight in the 2.0 The Geometry Dash Awards.
  • -sirius- was ranked #27 in GDToday's '100 Greatest Levels of All Time' list.
  • If the player crashes at the first hanging spike, a Lenny face appears.
    • It can be triggered without killing the player. The player must jump immediately after passing the hanging spike.
  • -sirius- started a trend similar to that of the Nine Circles Levels after a level named Nibiru by RenzorGD, with the same design as -sirius-, although green in the main colour, was uploaded. A yellow -sirius- remake named R4zor has also been sighted.
    • The only such remake with a star rating is SiriusX by Manix648, a featured Hard Demon.
  • On 20 December 2015, FunnyGame jokingly uploaded a video to his YouTube channel showing the bosses decorated as Christmas trees. However, it was never actually uploaded onto the servers.
  • Collecting the first user coin will change FunnyGame's name in the title to 'BunnyGame', a running gag in FunnyGame's 2.0 levels that references his nickname.
    • Upon finishing -sirius-, if the player waits 30 seconds after the menu appears, the white background will fade to black, revealing a low-resolution misspelling of the nickname as 'BunyGaem'.
  • On his profile, FunnyGame stated that he should rename '-sirius-' to 'sirius', as hyphens cannot be typed in the level research bar. He never did so.
    • Hyphens could be inserted into level names by typing profanity; exiting and re-entering will convert the word into a hyphen. This feature was recently removed after RobTop banned the ability to upload levels with profanities in their title.
  • -sirius- is the fourth-most-liked Medium Demon level, behind Skeletal Shenanigans, Nantendo, and B.
  • -sirius- is named after the brightest star in the night sky.
