Arctic Lights is a 2.1 Extreme Demon collaboration level by EndLevel and ViRuZ, verified and published by Metalface221.[1] It is an extremely difficult remake of Nine Circles. It is the sequel to Hyper Paracosm and the prequel to Azure Flare, and the first instalment of the Weather Trilogy, preceding Aquatic Auroras and Aerial Gleam.

History

[edit | edit source]

The first preview was released on 2 April 2018. ViRuZ created the first half, and EndLevel created the second half. The level was hack-verified by EndLevel on 28 May 2018 after 12,000 attempts. Since EndLevel admitted to hacking it after being exposed by ToshDeluxe, Metalface221 took on the job and legitimately verified it on 16 February 2019, after 35,393 attempts.

Description

[edit | edit source]
  • 0-14%: Arctic Lights begins with a cube section that involves very tight spikes and numerous difficult orb timings.
  • 14-20%: After the cube, there is a memory ball segment with lots of fake orbs, invisible blocks, and tight orb timings like the first cube.
  • 20-25%: After the ball is a tight half-speed ship segment with straight-flying, and then a cube in the transition to the wave segment.
  • 25-81%: This is the drop and the main part of the level. It undergoes frequent speed and portal changes, some of which are invisible. Some parts require insane spamming, and the wave requires insane consistency. The majority of the structures have spikes that significantly increase the difficulty.
  • 81-89%: At the end of the wave is a short timing cube section and then a ship segment that requires a one-block slow straight-fly.
  • 89-100%: At the end of the level is a timing mini-cube section with orbs that the player must hit precisely. At the very end is an easy ship segment, and then the level ends. A Lenny face may also be visible (if 'Low Detail Mode' is activated, an end-screen logo will replace it instead, created by Hantein).

Notable completions

  • Two players made jumps to Arctic Lights: CavEmaN_mELvIN jumped 25 spots on the Demonlist from Devil Vortex in 12,700 attempts on 11 October 2020;[2] however, as for Axinity, an extremely skilled Danish player jumped 119 spots on the Demonlist from Blade of Justice to Arctic Lights in just 36,347 attempts on 28 November 2020.[3]
    • After his completion, Axinity started his Demonlist career in Geometry Dash. His current hardest is Antarctic Lights, the sequel to Arctic Lights, which he verified. This is also the hardest level beaten in Denmark.
  • Axinity beat Arctic Lights twice in a row.[4]
  • DashY became the first to beat Arctic Lights on mobile on 28 September 2021, though it was beaten on 120Hz.[5]
    • Because of this, Arctic Lights became the #1 on the High Refresh Rate Mobile Demonlist.

Trivia

[edit | edit source]

General

[edit | edit source]
  • Arctic Lights was rated on 18 August 2019.
  • Arctic Lights is the sequel to Hyper Paracosm. The two levels look fairly similar, as they are both made by ViRuZ; however, EndLevel made a part of Arctic Lights, and TheRealSneaky made a part of Hyper Paracosm. However, Hyper Paracosm is dark purple, and Arctic Lights is pale blue.
  • Arctic Lights was originally harder, but EndLevel nerfed it down to Death Corridor Finale's difficulty.
  • Arctic Lights' end screen can only be seen with Low Detail Mode activated. Turning off LDM will show a Lenny face at the end instead.
  • Unlike most Nine Circles levels, Arctic Lights does not have the typical singular flash pattern in the wave. Instead, it has syncopated flashes, alternating with flashes at transition points in the song.
  • The song is actually just an old, unfinished track from NIGHTkilla.
  • Arctic Lights was the hardest-rated Nine Circles level until Sonic Wave Infinity was verified by Xanii on 30 May 2021 and rated the same day.[6]
    • The description of Arctic Lights is now outdated.
  • Arctic Lights is a part of the Frostbite Trilogy, along with Cold Sweat and Frozen Cave.
    • Arctic Lights was also a part of the Weather Trilogy, along with Aquatic Auroras and Aerial Gleam.
  • There is a remake of Arctic Lights called Arctic Paradox, created by GdSkulll and verified by Yossarian.[7]
  • A harder remake of Arctic Lights called Antarctic Lights, created by declan and verified by Axinity.[8]

Demonlist

[edit | edit source]
  • Arctic Lights was placed at #6 on the Demonlist on 4 July 2019, above Visible Ray and below Lucid Nightmares.
    • This addition pushed Sonic Wave out of the Top 10, Esencia into the Extended List, and NecroDynamix into the Legacy List.
  • Zephal released a copy of unnerfed Arctic Lights from EndLevel and would give a shoutout to the first person to beat it legitimately.
  • Arctic Lights was formerly Metalface221's hardest level beaten, but for unknown reasons, the level's verification video is unlisted.
    • Some people believe it was unlisted because Metalface221 did not want to become a meme due to his reaction when beating the level, like npesta did when he verified Kenos.
  • Arctic Lights was in EricVanWilderman's 12 Demons of Christmas 2022 Community series, as Demon #11, with AeonAir as its contender.[9]
  • Arctic Lights was moved to #1 on the Demonlist on 27 May 2022 above Slaughterhouse as a joke.
  • The placement of Viprin UFO on 18 August 2024 pushed Arctic Lights into the Legacy List of the Demonlist.
