Eyes in the Water is a 2.1 Extreme Demon mega-collaboration level hosted by hawkyre, verified by LordVadercraft on 29 October 2023. The level received positive reviews, with praise for its theming and decoration, as well as its intriguing, epileptic and intense fast-paced gameplay.

History

The first mention of the level dates back to 9 April 2022, when hawkyre uploaded a preview (1 of 3) of his new solo project, called 'Eyes in the Water'. hawkyre mentioned that he aims the level to place within the Top 15 of the Demonlist, and that Cursed would be responsible for its verification. His next preview of the level happened on 5 July, and the third and final preview was uploaded to his YouTube channel on 2 August. On 7 November, Eyes in the Water was completed and ready for verification, which was passed onto Tenebris. He also thanked his friends for helping him with the level's creation. After that, there would be no updates regarding the level or its verifier until a new and final verifier was chosen to tackle the level, LordVadercraft.

Verification

LordVadercraft's first verification progress video was uploaded on 28 February 2024, where he got a run of 77-100%, in the video's description, noting that the level might place even within the Top 10 of the Demonlist. On 3 March, he would get 67-100%, on 14 March, 58-92%, day later he did 49-80%, another two days later, 49-89%, on 20 March, he improved his run to 100% from 49%, and on 26 March, LordVadercraft made 34-80%. On 27 March 2024, LordVadercraft got a 34-91% run twice, and then got 34-92% in the next two days. On 2 April, he got 34-98%, dying to the last block in the level. He came back nine days later, and did 34-100%, then 23-97% on 14 April. He then started playing the level from 0%, achieving 23% on 30 April and commenting that he did the level in two runs. On 7 May, he reached the new best of 55%.

On 8 June, LordVadercraft uploaded a video in which he completed the pre-drop ship (around 0-25%) three times in a row. On 4 July, he managed to reach the drop after being unable to for the past two months due to a mind block, commenting that he spent ~26,000 attempts to do it. Four days later, he got 60%, with 86,313 attempts overall. On 17 July, he reached 64% of the level, taking 90,526 attempts. On 30 July, he almost verified the level after reaching 91%, with 94,524 attempts. On 3 September, he crashed at 91% once again, taking almost 110,000 attempts. On 29 October, LordVadercraft finally verified Eyes in the Water. He made 123 streams dedicated to the level, 135,054 attempts, and died 13 times past 70% before verifying. Despite that, he gave the level a 9.5/10 enjoyment rating and thanked hawkyre for choosing him as a verifier.

Description

Eyes in the Water begins with a long, slow ship part where the player must fly through multicoloured eyes that occasionally jitter and shake. Next, the player enters a monochromatic cube section, navigating through a maze of various orbs, blocks, sawblades and spikes.

The music gets louder and more intense, and the player enters the drop, with frequent changes in speed and game modes. The player must perform wave spamming through spikes. Then, the player must travel through a three-block-wide blue orb spam as a cube and navigate through more spikes and sawblades in various game-modes. The player then enters a brief dual-wave auto part where an eye appears and stares at the screen.

In the dual, the eye moves from top to bottom on the screen, depending on which side the player is playing on, alternating throughout. In this part, the player must navigate through more spikes, blocks and sawblades and perform fast spam and tight timings on both sides.

Finally, the level ends with a dark, memory-based part with timings.
