*Those who lack the sense of responsibility and discipline will lose the respect of their community. *Those who fail to thoroughly involve themselves and develop relationships with their community will find themselves overshadowed. *Those who value the encyclopedic value of their wiki more than their community will grow harsh and unthoughtful towards them. *Those who are so tied up in policy and compliance will alienate users with a potential interest in supporting their wiki. ---- Staff members are users with additional tools to help manage the wiki. Wiki administrators are responsible and trustworthy helpers, and the senior staff among them further being proven intuitive leaders and wiki caretakers. They can manage pages and files using move, protect, delete and undelete functions, as well block problematic users from editing. Administrators in the additional interface administrator user group can also edit MediaWiki (system) pages. All staff members should be committed to improving the wiki's content and supporting its community to the best of their ability. ==Staff responsibilities== There are many tasks that a staff member must be prepared to undertake, which may include but is not limited to: *Being knowledgeable about both the wiki's subject and editing on wikis. *Monitoring pages, reverting counterproductive edits and the incorrect use of files. *Contributing towards page quality and content, additionally designing and implementing templates as navigation and structural components. *Carrying out maintenance tasks involving the correction of links, applying categories and updating files with improved versions. *Maintaining system pages. *Communicating updates and wiki objectives to the community. *Resolving user disputes and addressing misconduct. *Helping others in a friendly and respectful manner. *Fostering a culture of contribution. ==Conduct of moderation== The way moderation is undertaken can mean the difference between a peaceful outcome or an inflamed predicament. When speaking of moderation, both moderators and administrators have a significant responsibility to see a resolution to conflicts by providing a positive influence that is conducive to users feeling comfortable and supported as much as possible and particularly throughout challenging situations. It should be recognised that it is quite possible for situations to deteriorate as a result of insensitive staff intervention. It is very important to maintain a neutral perspective and an objective approach in order to act fair and justly. With that in mind, site policy should always be enforced in a professional manner and with respect for all individuals and their perspectives. Offenders should be kindly informed when they are acting inappropriately so that they are aware that their actions are objectionable where they may not have been fully aware. Here, only after persistent disobedience should punishments be resorted to. If an explanation is ever requested, one should always be granted. It is important that any moderation involving punishments are clearly explained so not to breed a negative atmosphere by a perceived sense of injustice or antagonism towards particular individuals. This has the potential to generate new issues, which contradicts the purpose of moderation. Staff must not act superior towards others or abuse their tools. Their intentions should lie in improving the wellbeing of the community first and foremost. ==Becoming a staff member== Although a user is free to nominate themselves or another user in order to highlight their interest in attaining a staff position, the means by which a user is selected is under the decision-making of the current staff. The primary consideration is the need for more staff members. If numbers are sufficient, new staff members will not be actively sought. If there is a commonly recognised benefit in increasing staff numbers, users will be considered based on a broad combination of notably influential personal attributes. These may include loyalty, contribution, sociability, enthusiasm and experience. Any form of misconduct which demonstrates a lack of understanding of site policy will quickly diminish any impression of suitability; it comes down to acting with basic common sense. Discussion and consensus is necessary between the current staff before conducting a promotion, and only once it is clear that there will be no disturbance to the wiki's atmosphere, both among the community and among the staff themselves. Promotions are conducted by a permissions administrator, of which the wiki will have one or two, who are long-time serving elder staff members with the additional sole ability to add or remove the administrator and interface administrator user groups for local wiki users. Users can only be added to the permissions administrator user group by wiki.gg staff. All current active permissions administrators must each agree while also establishing a clear reasoning for having another permissions administrator promoted. ==Staff engagement== *Contribution is currency. Staffing a wiki is unpaid, therefore it should be acknowledged that a staff member's life need not revolve around a pastime of voluntary contribution to an Internet website. With that being said, those who do commit time to thoroughly contributing to the wiki - particularly to a degree significant enough from having undertaken a variety of major projects that it prominently guides the wiki's development trajectory - should be recognised for their efforts. It is such contributors who are more likely to ultimately find themselves promoted to a staff position. Resultingly, their demonstrated investment and sustained engagement affords them a say in various wiki matters that their opinion should then have greater influence compared to those who have not demonstrated comparable investment or sustained engagement. This is foundational to the wiki maintaining a culture of contribution, which naturally underpins the broader wiki project experiencing growth and being successful as a live active resource for viewers. A wiki culture based on anything else fundamentally compromises this objective, and if this were to be accepted, over time the wiki would instead experience stagnation (or corruption where wilful neglect is severe), and the quality controls enforced by those who care about the integrity of the wiki will wane. It is therefore a key responsibility of staff who find themselves deeply engaged in their wiki participation to help foster and promote the integral culture of contribution. Inevitably one will experience decreased interest in contributing as time advances and personal circumstances change. Noting as mentioned that participation is voluntary, staff are not obligated to remain consistent contributors, nor are they to be subject to any kind of ultimatum that they must undertake any series of actions to keep their staff rights. Once promoted, an administrator should retain the user group rights no shorter than until they enter into Extended Inactivity (EI), which is regarded as exceeding 60 days since making their last edit (in any namespace, including User). Upon reaching EI, a permissions administrator may relinquish them of their user group rights. However, in such instances former staff members may have their rights restored upon request. It is less about 'how long a staff member has not edited', but pertinent the question of whether their investment has permanently waned and continued engagement is unlikely to experience turnaround. Therefore, their influence should be lesser, and their opinions should carry less weight than they might have in past when they were more deeply engaged. Moreover, elected staff do not become immune to the consequences of unacceptable conduct as specified by site policy, and may be demoted with near-unanimous consensus from the other active staff contingent on it being clearly demonstrated with evidence that there has been wilful misconduct in bad-faith by the subject staff member. Disagreements or conflict between staff members does not rise to this threshold where evidence of site policy-defined misconduct is lacking, and instead mediation should take place under the direction of senior longer-serving staff towards dispute resolution, applying the key principle of assuming good-faith. Those who have meaningfully contributed to the wiki by the combination of number of constructive edits, duration of service, technical editing proficiency and wiki management experience assume seniority, and by their highly demonstrated investment and long-sustained engagement, maintain elevated weight in major decision-making. ==In the case of inactive staff== Upon the retirement of a lone permissions administrator, a willing administrator may apply to be their replacement, contacting wiki.gg staff, who will instruct them on how to proceed through the process. If there are no staff at all active, any user may apply to become a permissions administrator, given that they have a demonstrated history of consistent (including recently) and meaningful editing, and have also initiated a public discussion regarding their intentions, including why they want to become a permissions administrator and how this will lead to betterment of the wiki. ==Staff list==
